        • guys need help

i want to buy a used r15 and have seen few bike
guys what are the points i should check before buying a used r15 apart from checking papers
Recently have seen one and according to the onwer it has run 12300kms , bikes condition is good, tyre are in good condition & brakes were working fine but the weired thing was when he switch on the battery the humming sound which comes from fuel pump was loud and after just one crank the bike started but the rpm niddle was at 3k rpm and after one min it was not coming down.
bike was sluggish but if rev hard it is going fast even the engine sound & exhaust note was just like normal r15 no weired sound coming from the engine but the chain was very tight and making sound and moreover there was no fuel in the bike not even single fuel bar was showing in the speedo meter. as per the onwer bike has taken good care and serviced at regular interval but as he is selling it out so from past 3 months he has not taken care and even hadn't ridden the bike
he was asking for 75k but after bargaining he is settling at 70k and i have offered him 68k
guys need you suggestion weather i should leave the bike or go for it BTW bike is blue in colour

          thanks in advance bros

              • 6000 Kms done - ownership experience so far.

Why i bought it ? I don't know, i was thinking about a classic 350 or a Zma. God knows what transpired where and why but i went and booked my black r15. I went for black, love black and also its subtle, not too much attention drawn (again one may ask why r15 if attention is to be avoided , bah !).

First 500 Kms were very very disappointing and boring, had to keep it below 5k RPM mark, moreover, when you shell out 1 lac Rs of your hard earned money, you expect something which is a lot better than the average bike. It was a total dud for me. Well, i used to ride a 125cc TVS victor before this, so R15 was obviously a lot better in every aspect, but my friends ride P220, RTR 160 Fi, and ZMAs and compared to these i didn't find anything exceptional rather when compared to an RTR and P220 , it was plain boring.

After the first service i took the bike to 7.5 RPM right away, i felt the power for the first time , it gave me some hope, it was a little less boring boring between 5-7.5k RPM. However, till the 1000 Km mark, i kept it under 6k (most of the time, though my patience was running out) again changed the oil, started doing upto 7.5 RPM consistently, bike was pretty stable at 100kmph, acceleration post the sluggish first gear, was pretty neat. Also, wrist pain , a bit of discomfort in the shoulder pain was bothering me now. The bike has vibes ( minimal ), its not butter smooth as it is touted to be, gear shifts are a little rough, also FI unit makes weird noises (have gotten used to these). After the second service i was in a position to test the bike to its capacity thoroughly, which i did. The following are my observations / comments -

                1. Keep it in high revs and it flies quick.
                2. The first gear is still i would say a little sluggish even at high RPMs.
                3. For best results keep the bike at 7+ RPMs in 3rd and 4th gear 60 - 100 is real fun and real quick.
                4. Top whack for my bike has been 134 on the speedo so far. Bike does 130 in 5th gear pretty easily, i am not sure why it stops at 134 in 6th. Takes a lot of time to reach 128 - 134.
                5. The bike feels a little out of breath on hilly terrain and exhaust sound becomes a little heavier (no overheating).
                6. Can cruise on the bike at 100 + speed for hours , have done it myself, I can vouch for that. On good roads rubber stays well planted has great balance and handling. I found it more vulnerable on sand / mud than other bikes.
                7. Now that i have gotten used to the posture, i can say its good for touring as well.
                8. I would love to take it to a track, do take it to Solan - Shimla highway pretty often, closest thing to a track in nearby routes (theres a very good 6-7 km patch near kaithilighat ). I am not sure whether its complete potential can be realized outside of the track.
                9. Lights are ok. Not good not bad ok.
                10. I am getting 37 - 38 Kmpl, anyhow (rip, slice, cut, stack whatever).
                11. I am not sure too much about the windblast thingy (fairing provides protection they say) , i was almost blown away recently , when i overtook an huge truck 10 wheeler i guess at 120 + speed on a windy day . Maybe would have actually blown away on some other bike, but havent tested / ridden any other bike this extensively.

Overview / Advice - The only noticeable thing would be the bike's eagerness to lean into the curves. The extra this bike may have to offer may not at all be realized by the average city rider. If you dont mind paying the extra 20k or so more than other performance bikes and you don't mind the high revving nature and you are ok with the sluggish lowend, go for it.

P.S. - I am sometimes too harsh on things that i possess. Strictly my personal opinion. No offense meant to Yamaha fanbois. And i am satisfied with my bike. Yes, inspite of all the criticism, i can rip it bad when i am having a bad day, and i can cruise easy when i want to , i can enjoy the curves on this more than any other bike out there, and most importantly it keeps the hooligan inside of me under check ( I hope you get this point ).

+1 to that. How come the SVC guys in my region(asked in 2 different SVC's) not even know about it? I even mailed Yamaha multiple times regarding this and their reply is the same. Don't know if it will be ever done

He is also providing with Insurance, Puc, Transfer and everything from his end and even a service before giving the bike .. ok so here it goes...

Today, i sit on my r15 with dark spots under my eyes due to a sleepless night, i feel what i'd felt a million times in my dreams. All those flashbacks of my old rides come to me. My trusted ol' Super Splendor which taught me how to ride and gave me my first touring experience and is practically the most maintainence free bike. Then came in my buddy Pulsar 180 next year when my brother got himself the big daddy 220. Ohh! How heavenly it felt when just a twist of the wrist leaves the pillion hanging for dear life. The pulsar taught me how to lean and how to be mean . It pretty much made me a pulsarmaniac which i admit i still somewhat am.
Pulsar left me hanging for more and my parents agreed to get me my own new bike for college and that just changed my life. I spent hours drooling over pics of ZMR, p220, RTR etc. and sought "expert" advice from my friends. Then in november i discovered the holy grail of Biking i.e. XBHP. I was in awe! Reading alankarmishra's triplog, saddlesores, ownership experiences, latest news etc. day and night. I put up my thread in What Bike? section and got real advice based on personal experinces but still was undecided.
Till december 2010 i was sure i was going for ZMR as i liked it torque and big-bike-like looks. By january 11 p220 was my choice. But then i happened to read a line in an ownership experience blog. The guy (who owned a P220) said "Whenever i see a R15 on road i wish i had waited, i wish i had convinced my dad more, ......"
That was a moment of realisation for me coz at that moment i realized that R15 is the king.
i booked my baby on 28th March 2011 at 3:20 p.m. and had to wait a month to get her. That has been the longest month of my life till date. I got my ride on 2nd May @3:00 p.m. and have been to heaven on a round trip multiple times per day. The bike's character is unique and confidence inspiring. Handling is superb and braking is great. Its such an eye catcher my gf went crazy as on our way to college many grls gave her envious glances. Thats R15. In conclusion i would like to share ve and -ve points of r15 based on my first days ride.
                          pros
-Supeeeerb handling!: Not best in class but best in the entire school.
-great braking: front disc is awesome with ample braking available at the rear too.
-Great looks: Any man with an eye would agree i guess.
-Rev freindly engine: i still have not taken her above 5k rpm but seeing what my friend's bike did at that point made my day
                          Cons
                          404 NOT FOUND
It looks like you are lost or maybe you have not had a chance to ride the R15 yet.

Agreed, but when you are done and not happy, it's time to meet the best modder of R15, Joel. Drop him a PM. Get a big bore kit and ECU (Atleast) and after installation, i would like to read your review.

EDIT: I am also in the run to get my self a Fake ECU
