I've been a silent reader for quite some time and this is my first so so bear with me. I bought the YZF R15 in November'10. Din't really get a chance to do long rides because I was switching jobs. The longest ever was a one day trip from Pune to Mahbi and back.

My biggest concern is the vibration thats there in the bike. Barely after 2 to 3 days from servicing the vibrations are back up. Also, I don't see my bike hitting speeds that you'll guys discuss. She seems to max out at 134 on the Speedo.

Pls do reply and let me know what can be done. And ya Would like to congratulate everyone for making this one of the largest threads.
                  Hi,

What sort of vibrations ? foot pegs or fairing / visor or something else ? A little bit of it is ok, every1 gets it but if its bothering you ask the svc to tighten up the fairing and mounting bolts. I tried everything still get slight vibes on the footpegs, dont think they go away completely.

About top speed, what people talk about here is the top whack achieved with an aim in mind to achieve it. Check tire pressure, chain slack, lube it, wear a riding jacket, try with an almost empty tank, lean on the fuel tank arms and legs tucked in, change the gears at 10k+ rpm, then come back and let us know the results .

My bike does 125 easily, then it takes all these efforts to take it to 135+, also the acceleration from 125 onwards is very slow.

                    • I've been following this thread for a while now. There's so much speculation about the launch of a new R15 model in 2011. I've been waiting for the past 4 months and now feel like "Enough". I visited 2-3 Yamaha showrooms in Chennai to ask about the launch date and they all give different estimates. One of them said after July and the other guy said September but not sure if 2011 or 2012 !

Can anyone suggest if I should wait till May or just go ahead and book the current R15 model?

Yeah I know the utter frustation of not having any news from the Company's side leads to these situations. Well I would say if you have waited for past 4 month, another month would hardly make a difference. But you gotta decide and be sure that you wont regret if you buy the same model after May. So just see what your best options are, if you wanna lay low, then be it or else go ahead and buy the current model

Wait till May, if it aint out, go buy the existing model, and anyways all speculation suggests that performance wise it will be the same, so i dont think you can go wrong here

hii .. this is suresh, another silent member of the group and a keen follower of this thread .. I have been in the exact same position as you are now .. had been waiting for the new r15 since jan wen the spy picture was out on the net .. after 4 months of waiting, I could wait no longer because I dint hav any bike at hand, so I went ahead and bought a blue R15 2 weeks back .. before buying i asked all the showroom ppl and all they said was "we have been getting many queries abt the new r15 but as far as we know its the R125 wich yamaha is plannin to release soon" .. I am sure the showroom people themselves dont know anything about the release ..

so my suggestion depends on whether you have a bike at present .. if you already own a bike then u can afford to wait for another month or 2 else if you need a bike urgently then dont think any further .. just go ahead and buy the bike .. there is no point in waiting for the new model which you dont even know if and when it will be released ..

                              • My front pads are gone in like 9.5k kms with absolutely no stunting and not particularly hard braking. Have been going through some DIY videos on youtube to change pads and I think I'll give it a shot, just as soon as the darn exams are completed.

To any one who is familiar with changing brake pads, are the tools given in the tool kit enough for changing the front pads or would I need some extra stuff?

And what sized socket wrench would I need to take off the hex bolts on the front sprocket cover?
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.
