@Vibhanshu: The bike jerks only when cold. It is a characteristic. I face it every morning too. The manual mentions you need to engage the clutch rapidly&disengage slowly while changing gears. The 'thud' sound while changing from neutral to 1st gear is a characteristic of sportbikes. If you hear the R1, you'll be shocked by the thud.Originally posted by vibhanshu View PostShifting to 1st from 0 gear gives a jerk to the bike. Anyone knows why that happens ?
Overall gear shifting is not as smooth as it was. My bike has done <700 Kms.
@Tazz&Tulinisarg: HydBiker has answered most of your queries. I would like to add: Ask the SS guys to check/replace the foam padding around the speedo area. If not satisfied, you can get the double side tape from any general store(white color thin one). If you want a thicker one, try visiting any car accessory shop&they'll give you a thick black one which should be more or less permanent.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Sound is not the problem, I love the sound too. But when I shift the gear from 0 to 1 , its like the bike jerks on the forward direction as if I am not holding the clutch properly or its half pressed. For other gears cant say as the bike is in motion. Finding neutral is a little problem now (not as earlier). Gear shift is not very smooth as earlier.Originally posted by R15Rocks View Post@Vibhanshu: The bike jerks only when cold. It is a characteristic. I face it every morning too. That's a bit expensive but not bad. Fitting Charges??? replacing the air filter is easier than cleaning it... it is supposed to be done at service. If they want to charge for that I will do it myselfOriginally posted by digislayer View PostRs 237 for the Filter Element Assy, no idea bout the fitting charges

The one I was speaking about was real thinOriginally posted by R15Rocks View Postyou can get the double side tape from any general store(white color thin one).
anyway, which ever solves our problem is the best thing
Shifting to 1st gear from a cold start gives a jerk is common. Also, any new cable gets a little stretched when new... get your clutch cable adjusted and most of the problems should disappear.Originally posted by vibhanshu View PostSound is not the problem, I love the sound too. It's not just any ordinary air filter na.. it's a high volumetric efficiency sports type filter..capable of drawing more amount of air than any other motorcycle air filters.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostThat's a bit expensive but not bad. It's actually a problem because of the worn out clutch bell or something according to the mechanic at Pearl Yamaha. He once told me that's Yamaha's clutches are..not very smooth.. :P I've been facing this since 30 days after purchase! Another symptom of this wear is,.. hold the clutch when the bike is idling in neutral, and the bike's sound and vibes will change. Release the clutch now, and there'll be another change. This too is because of the clutch bell/rubber's wear from what the mechanic told to me long back.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostShifting to 1st gear from a cold start gives a jerk is common. Any solution bro....There was a guy who posted about the same issue couple of weeks back (change of vibes with clutch engaged). I do not remember the person's name who posted it. His mechanic told him that its due to improper use of clutch (which he never did, as he said). This also made the gear shift hard. But that mechanic also told him that it does not cause harm to the bike. That guy had this problem after 6K kms. Really sorry that I do not remember that person's name who posted it, I do remember the info.Originally posted by DriftKingNT View PostMe too. Same problem.
EDIT:
You were right. The jerk is less if the engine is hot.Originally posted by R15Rocks View Post@Vibhanshu: The bike jerks only when cold. It is a characteristic.Last edited by vibhanshu; 01-26-2009, 12:53 AM.Fear is the Trigger!

To all of you who face these jerks when shifting to 1st gear.
Don't worry its common for every bike when in cold. Just check you have standard free play in clutch lever should 5-10 mm or as per manual.
My 9000km old RTR has the same character, and i almost used to it. I have seen many Pulsars with this same character. For sticky gear use better engine oil thats it.
Don't panic at all

Yup, I've also felt that, in neutral pressing the clutch makes the bike idle softer than when the clutch is released. Is it something to do with the clutch/declutch switch?
Also, try this, when the bike is off, and in neutral, try pressing and releasing the clutch. is there any tick-tick sound? It sounds like a mechanism that detects clutch engage and disengage.
P.S. Drift KingNT- Hope I got your ID right, why do you say that the Motul chain lube is bad? I've been riding in dust for a long time after service, 17 days to be precise, but I dont see any dust accumulation on the chain. Maybe its invisible now, and I'll see when I clean it..... But chain is running fine. No sounds whatsoever. You get the point?? :D

I found it really bad. It is very sticky and makes a "Ghisss" sound while running.Originally posted by svjhonda View PostP.S.
