  • Yamaha YZF-R15 the Back Pain Thread!!!

    Well Guys,

Im 5.11 and i ve had the R15 like close to 8 months and 4000km... Im facing a strange issue its a BACK PAIN!!! yes i usually ride to office thts like 18kms one side tht makes it a total of 36 kms not much traffic as i take the Ring Road but its getting quite bad as i end up with a lower back pain almost every other day... I dunno whether the riding stance in wrng but i ve tried diff stances and still its not good... Due to this reason im almost contemplating on switching for a FZ with a straight sitting posture this means loosing out on my fav bike

    any suggestions...

        1. Keep moving & leaning, where-ever possible, it helps!

        2. Try getting new clip ons, or adjust the old ones if possible ....

        3. Well, you could exchange bikes with someone KNOWN to you, going the same route ... I'm sure he would love the R15 ride ... and maybe give you a comfortable commuter in return ...

Now, these ain't too technical suggestions. But maybe they may help ... Good luck!

Did you have any backpain symptoms before you got the R15?
Well, the bike does take a bit of getting used to, but I still do get palm aches sometimes-that can be solved by getting good handlegrips I guess.
Coming to the backpain, try shifting your weight more onto your arse&hip region, sit a little behind&DON'T lean with your body weight on the clip-ons. If this doesn't work out for a few days, you might need to consult a Doctor.

Sitting towards the tank will make him rest his weight more on the clip-ons!

i never had the problem been riding bikes since 10 years... but im getting whenever i ride the R15 if i lean forward then it puts more strain on the writs and palm... If i site straight then im literally straeching my arms to reach the handle bars...

As I said, try shifting your weight to the lower portion of your body without sitting too much behind. That would compromise the reach!
P.S. I shouldn't be saying this, but if you are disposing your R15, GS would be my recommendation!

I had no options. But a few KMs after filling (the tank hardly had 1/2 liter petrol by then) the bike became smoother.

Bike seems to run a lot smoother on a long drive after the initial few hundreds of KMs but this time it was noticeably smoother. I have used Speed at similar situations earlier but didn't notice any difference then.

Wear a back guard... ( i was recommended one in xBHP) I have no idea what its called. It should be available in most medical shops.

With the R15, a wrong stance would mean a lot of pressure in Wrists, Lower back etc.... ride for a while with wearing the belt, it will keep your back straight and slowly you will get used to this renewed stance~!

                        Cheers!

                        • Baby got bumped !

Was on the highway doing some gentle riding on my R15 while getting a better feel of the bike. Traffic was slow & the auto in front of me suddenly brakes forcing me to brake immediately. Realised there was a bus behind and watched the bus brake & still hit the back of my bike. Fortunately nothing happened to me & the bump was minor (the bike barely moved when it got hit) but the clear glass covering the brake light was broken. The centre back panel & 1 side panel also need to be replaced. Orion is saying a total of around 800 - 1000 bucks. Could you guys let me know if thats too much ? Am attaching a couple of pics of the damaged rear.

                          • The user manual says that air pressure should be 28 (F) & 33 (R) but while I was in Orion I saw a chart (attached) which says tire pressure should be 25 (F) & 28 (R). I havent read the entire manual yet so I could have missed something. Could someone clarify ?

                            • @ neil... good to know that you are unhurt... by the way for the tyre pressure stick to the manual recommendations... the bike really becomes upset while cornering even if the front tyre pressure is 25psi... my personal experience
