        • @ Hydbiker, Santoosh, Aparajith, digislayer and all the guys who replied to my queries a few posts ago...

Got my bike fixed today. After enquirig with Excellent and Naman motors, I finally decided to take the problem to the SS wher I have been servicing my bike since 1st service.

The guy there took the test ride. With a small test ride he cud not find any prob(because excellent yamaha guy had made sum adjustment sumwher n since then the handle shake had reduced a bit). But I insisted him for a longer test ride with lots of curves and when he came back he agreed that there's sumthin wrong with the handling.

I wasn't allowed in the service room but I was waiting outside. After 3 long hours, the bike was ready with the scheduled 4th service as well.

When I took the test ride then, the prob was solved. Bike felt like normal. But I can't say this 100% because the real report will cum out once I hit sum ghat road and test the bike. For the time being the bike is perfectly fine.

When asked wht was the prob, he said there's nothing wrong with the cone set. He asked me if i had a puncture b4 and has anyone touched the chain? I had no puncture nor I had allowed anybody to touch the chain of my bike. He told me that the chain wasn't properly set and that was the reason why bike felt little imbalanced specially while braking. He adjusted the chain properly and the prob was gone.

and then I was so suprised, because excellent yamaha guys had asked me for the replacement of cone set without even checking properly wht the prob is. I wud hav ended spending close to 3k bucks unnecessary. I'll never see the face of excellent yamaha now on..

wht ever it is, finally I got the bike back in shape. I followed the normal points on the manual for the service. No mods done as yet, like aftermarket spark plug or filters. Bike's feeling better now.

Meanwhile, I met an interesting guy there at the SS

I am attaching a few snaps of his bike here. That fella has put 130 section tyre for rear and 110 section for the front. The moment he rolled into the SS, I understood the mods.

That fella has cut the swingarm to accommodate the rear tyre.

Also check out the front tyre. there's literally no gap in between the tyre and mud guard. When asked bout the brand and the effect on handling, he said the brand is Metzeler and there's no considerable effect on handling(which is actually hard to believe after these over ambitious mods)

Next mod he wants is Painting the rims with the color that of the engine(silver).

Anyways, check out the pics...and thanx a lot for all the help guys...it's been really helpful out here on this thread...

          Cheers..

I dont think its your oil that's causing any issues. I'm using power1 from 1st service and exactly 1000kms onwards due to non availability of yamalube in my city. I've managed to hit a top speed of 138kph and 137 on more than one occasions and often hit 130+ without any issues. Have done some 300km touring during the runnin-in process itself and 480+ km road trip after first service with many top speeds runs and sustained 100-120+ speeds for over 10-15 mins without any issues. Dont worry too much with the bike. Just give her some space to get to those speeds. It takes a long time to get anywhere above 130kph.

The oil burning smell at the exhaust is due to over-ripping. New engines should be treated gently. I got my bike last July (1st lot)&it ran on mineral oil till the last service. Semi-synth should not do harm, but it does cause some growling. I am fine with that. Mostly not recommended during run-in. To be on the safer side, I would say change over to semi-synth at around 2K.
This is the way I maintained my bike:
              1st 1000kms. below 4K (60kmph)
              next 1000kms. below 7K (100kmph)
After this, I took her to the highway&started opening her up gradually. Noticed a lot of variation in mileage-under hard ripping (120-130 kmph continuous) she returned 38kmpl. Under sedate cruising (80-100kmph) she returned an amazing 48kmpl! Engine same as always.
Now I don't feel any change even using at full throttle for high speeds, except for the fact that the tappets have become loose off late. In city I do shift gears at around 3.5K-4K RPM. This gives me a city mileage of 43.
              My 2 cents are:
              1. R15 is known to have a very delicate chain so please lubricate every 500 kms.&after every ride in the rain as mentioned in the manual. This does cause a lot of difference in smoothness. Do not overtighten. Lube front sprocket regularly too.
              2. Rims are light, so please do not bang them into a pothole at very high speeds, say 95-100 etc.
              3. Fairing has lot of screws, please keep them tightened to avoid vibes.
              4. Check air pressure regularly, as tubeless tyres tend to lose air faster than tubed type ones.
              Hope this helped you.

Yes it does shake. Im not sure if this will work or not but I'll suggest to try something that can be attached to your body and not the bike. Thats the only place which will not "vibrate". Just a suggestion!

The engine is opening up. Meet us sometime on weenend and then you'll be able to see other R15.

A proper camera mount like those from sportcam wont shake, they even have vibration dampers, check out some of the videos of those setups, they are perfectly steady. I guess thats my only solution. Also thinking of a wide angle lens which will allow me to keep the camera lower on the tank (its on a small tripod now) and that should be more stable, lets see, will do some more testing.

                  • ^^Kriss from Hyderabad has a tank mounted camera and a setup for his P200. Maybe u can ask him. He should be able to guide/help u.

Hey Guys, I fashioned out an LED based tail lamp setup for the R15. Its got 50 10-mm LEDs. Now I have the circuit such that, 30 bulbs glow when they headlight is switched on and te rest 20 only when the brake lever is pressed.(I will post the pics soon) This no doubt looks good, but am not that satisfied with it. I want it to look like the ones on the RTR/CBZ-X etc. I want all bulbs to glow dim with the headlight and brighter with the brake lever pressed. I know this involves use of resistors etc and am a total noob when it comes to this electricals/electronics stuff. Does anyone have any idea how it can be done? Can someone guide me through this?

                      • @All: I have been facing some engine vibes off late&on enquiry, I was told that it is tappet noise&I need to get it set in the next service. I have read this post, but am still not clear.

make sure the tappets are checked/adjusted every 5000kms. Correct setting is 0.10mm for IN and EXT. I know what a difference it made on mine after I corrected it. It was fine when I last checked at 950kms. I've clocked 6300kms in 10 weeks now and decided to check the clearance. Almost nothing.
Engines which are revved hard all the time and used in extreme conditions need inspection earlier than normal.
Things to remove to check/adjust tappets,
                        Side panels. LH and RH
                        Underpanel cover.
                        Radiator after draining coolant.
Fight and access the bolts on the tappet cover and remove. Make sure the oil O-ring is in place while putting back.
Remove the inspection cover on the magneto. use a 17mm bit and set TDC.
use a guage and adjust the tappets to .10mm on ext and in side.

                        A tighter valve clearance means,
Low compression. Leads to poor performance.
                        Low mileage
Poor throttle response, not free revving.
                        Cold start issues.
                        Damaged valves.
                        Damages cam and tappet screws.

loose valve clearance is anyday safer than tigher ones.

Note - trust me, none of the service centre guys will do this.
I am unclear about the words in bold.
Apart from this, could someone please explain to me what are the symptoms of tappet noise&how are they rectified?

                          Any advise......
I had the same problem. I was told repeatedly in this forum that it's a better idea to apply front-brakes prominantly. I was never able to that, so most of my braking was with the rear brakes. So, they were worn out. I guess applying front brakes more might be helpful.
                          And God said, "Let there be light" and there was HID Kit. And God saw that the light was good;

I am also facing excess vibes in the handlebar and footpegs. I will first look for any loose engine mounts as described by digislayer , if the vibes still don't go then I will take it to the service center.

My bike doesn't have any body vibes buddy. They are from engine&mostly zeroed in on tappets. Yours is a different problem.
Anyone with some advice on tappet adjustment?
