  • Hi guys:

This saturday I had my first trip on my R15. Distance covered is 450 kms. Had to visit my friends marriage in a place near to Khammam. Route taken is Hyd - Suryapet - Khammam (216 kms). Started by 3:30 AM on saturday and reached the destination (15 kms from Khammam toward Illandu) by 7 AM. Had b'fast along with my friends there, attended the marriage and by 10 AM it started raining heavily and it continued for 2 hours. Finished lunch by 1 PM and I'm ready to hit the road again. My initial plan was to visit my hometown which is 110 kms away from Khammam. Later droped the idea because it would be difficult for me to cover 350 + kms (EGP - Satupally - Khammam - Suryapet - Hyd) on return.

At 1:15 PM I started back after saying good-bye to all my friends. It is still raining, but not so heavily. Reached Hyd (DSNR) by 4:30 PM and it took 40 minutes to reach my room (JH) from DSNR

Sorry-no pics because I was travelling alone. You really need to have patience for riding on Hyd-Suryapet road, it is a little bit challenging and very risky too. I have the experience of riding from VIJ-HYD twice (4 years back) and it helped me.

Max. speed attained is 125 km/h on road b/w Suryapet and Khammam. I have no guts to hit that speed on Hyd-Suryapet road . For the first 110 kms I have got an avg of 50-55 kmpl and total avg is 43 kmpl .

I'm happy about the way bike behaved on highways. No vibrations even at 125 km/h, damn stable even at those speeds. First time I've felt all the 110000 bucks spent on this bike is worth it .

    Issues faced: NONE

    Thanks for reading...

The power and torque curve are a lot linear and the power does not drop-off till 10K rpm. Bike continues to accelerate till cut - off. Just freakin' amazing!!! The bike should really be a stonker on the MMSC track.....

I have not sampled a stock R15 for a really long time and could not make out a huge difference hence. The only other R15 I happened to test was Joel's which happened to be from another planet!

Our dear Joel though forgot to stuff the super free-flow exhaust with glass - wool and it sounds as loud as possible!! I had no problems overtaking anyone on the highway on the return leg from Bangy to Chennai. Just whack the throttle in 6th gear at 4K - 5K rpm and it surges forward. I did not even have to down-shift on the ride [Its so very loud too] . I had to hide from cops at Chennai at every signal though.

The air filter is very badly clogged and I have asked our in-house stocker Navnish for the same. Its also running an old 2K km old mineral oil due to which I gave up ripping(Actually it felt strained post 8.5K rpm). Have some work pending for this weekend - Need new air filter, need new spark plugs and also have to replace tires. And more important of all - chrome the exhaust and STUFF SOME GLASS WOOL IN IT!!!!

So here rises another souped-up R15!!!

Next step - the 165cc bore(which will have to wait another 6 months atleast!)
        Wow. Congrats bro!

Accha, can you post the mods done? Or its intellectual property of Joel sir?

Also a ride report is pending, yours vs stock, city riding, bumper to bumper, highway, drag strip () etc.....
        You get the point?? :D

Thanx. Yes, I will start a new thread itself soon. Shud be easier to compare. And mods, yes they are Joel's IPR! He can post them if he wishes....

            • I have a query, I will be getting my bike in a week or 10 days time and immediately after 20 days, I will be taking it for a ride of 300Kms. Well, during those 20 days, I can definitely clock 1000kms and can finish my 1st servicing but my problem is... I would not be able to complete the complete run-in period. At what speed or upto what RPM should i have the license to rip it... when my bike reaches just 1000km... And what all necessary precautions do i need to take on first service, incase if I stretch her till 120+ kph...during my tour...

P.S: The roads that I am about to take is super fine.... and straight stretch.. I would not say that I would be able to control my speed hunger... so any special suggestions and data's regarding the rpm...

4 days since i bought my bike and this continuous sound..
I was riding it an hour back and that wierd sound was coming constantly..
                    I'll try to explain properly..
The sound is something like when a metal is rubbed on a floor. Many people hate that creeching sound of that kind. It is surely tyre related because that sound repeats after every tyre revolution. The sound stops when i slow down but it starts coming when i increase a little speed..above 30..and the loudness and repetition goes on increasing with speed..
As i explained before, the service guy(who didn't look much qualified) told me that it's coz of really low tyre pressure. I upped the pressure and the sound stopped. But an hour ago again it started and much more amplified than before..
I really need some help because it's a brand new bike..
Also..i had called the showroom this time and the guy said it had happened before with new bike and it's because of dust or dirt stuck in disc..
I dont even know where the sound is coming from..but looks like front or rear tyre..
                    Guys..please help..

boss i might be new to reply to your query ....actually there are many causes of the sound....
                    1. it can be because your disc pads are misalligned and there is metallic contact with the disc. i request you to please check the surface finish of the disc. if you observe any kind of grooves on the disc DO NOT RIDE THE BIKE ANYMORE and get the disc alligned...man if you wear them out ..it will cost you 5000 rs for the replacement ...
                    2. it can also be the chain. get it lubricated properly also see one thing if there is slag in the chain above the permissiable range.

DONT worry the tyre pressure has nothign to do with it !!

                    • The "kish" "kisssh" sound goes after a while...mostly it's beacuse of the dust on the discs (tht was told to me too ) but after 500 kms or so this problem dissapeared never to appear again...

Nobody is ignoring you freakzil give some time to reply you cant get immediate answers.hey thats too much of planning before you get your hands on the baby. Its better to rip your bike once 1000kms is done. I took the bike to 3 digits only after 1.3k...refrain from redling the rpm(9.5) before 2nd service but you can surely take her upto 8krpm after 1st service. For first service change the oil, oilfilter, top up whatever things which are on level(coolant brake fluid etc)...Control your hunger or you may screw up the bike

                            • My road trip..

Well well..my shoulders have stopped aching now and I am ready to report my first ever road trip..
As I had mentioned earlier, I bought my ride from Pune and as soon as I got my delivery, I put it into our transport vehicle. It was a horror 3 hours journey from Pune to Ahmednagar where my bike was tied from four sides inside a truck and I was sitting on the bike trying to balance it on my legs in case of any jerks. It so turned out that the jerks were too many and my legs started paining bad since I didn't want anything to happen to the bike. But despite of all the pain my heart was still cursing me for not riding the new bike then and there.
Got it delivered at 7 PM on 8th august and reached my home town "safely" at night at 12. Took a small ride with my little sis as soon as i reached and had to park it in the garage immediately because of some threats from dad about riding at night. But my my...what a ride that was... So smooth a bike...never seen before..and so much confidence while riding..
Couldn't sleep all night..kept reading the entire Owner's Manual.
I decided to follow run-in instructions very strictly since I didn't want to mess up at all..
Morning followed with a 50 Km ride which took me around 3 hours since I was shifting all the gears, constantly shuffling the rpm and giving the engine proper disciplined exposure. Never let it go beyond 4k rpm despite of Manual suggesting "Avoid prolonged use above 5000 rpm during first 500Kms"..
The next 450 KMs were done in 4-5 days with same procedure and each and every time the bike was responding to its master's command with more and more smoothness..
I did take it to around 4.5k-5k seven-eight times during whole first 600 KMs..
Now the joy starts here..once the first part of run-in was done perfectly, the ride was really responding to all the extra care..so smooth and so flawless..(except for the krich krich sound which was sorted out today...i'll explain how...later)
I finished around 680 KMs in ahmednagar and also all the paper work. The ride was ready with number plate and I was ready to return to my home sweet home in Mumbai.
No plans at all, just packed my bag today morning and decided to hit the road and reach Mumbai..a total 280Kms journey..
Now, the second part of run-in instructions says "Avoid prolonged use above 7500 rpm till 1000 KMs"..
I actually never took it above 7k rpm during entire trip.
I started with slow riding with max speed of around 60-65 and never kept one rpm constant for more than 10 seconds..always kept the throttle moving slowly..
I was pretty experienced about this with my old bike. I am not a racer by any chance but I do know how to treat my ride with utmost care. I never get jerks while riding because I've got pretty good hands on the clutch-throttle relation.
During entire journey, maximum speed I got was 104 at 7000 rpm. I got three figures on 3-4 occasions. But overall mostly it was between 3k to 4.5k rpm..many times it was from 4.5k to 5.5k..very less from 2k to 3k since I already gave 2k to 3k a lot of exposure during first 600 KMs..and again 5.5k + was sometimes..
But the way the bike was responding, oh my god..butter smooth..
I was looking forward to Malshej Ghat a lot and I must say I enjoyed every bit of it. So many turns and on every turn I tilted my bike so much...like some rossi soul has entered in me.. It was amazing feeling because I've never done that in my life. It used to be scary but with R15 there's so much confidence, it was charm...
I took many stoppages because I love photography and every piece of scenic beauty made me take a U, remove camera and start snapping. There were lakes which pulled me and waterfalls on Malshej Ghat. Climate was amazing and no rain at all. I really didn't want rain because I'm sick about keeping bikes clean.
Heads kept turning throughout the trip. Two incidents happened today which I will never forget. One too funny and one funny but sad.
After I reached Thane city roads, I was just casually riding and there was a guy on the other side of the divider on Hero Honda Passion. Obviously he was checking out my bike but this guy was so busy looking at my bike, he didn't notice one person on Activa taking a U turn on his side. I was watching all this and before I could react, BAM! He just rattled into the Activa. The accident was bad..both of them got hurt and started fighting. I escaped as fast as I could despite of feeling like helping them. I didn't want trouble since I was the culprit indirectly.
Never in my life have I hurt anyone like this..and without even being technically involved???
Another incident is really stupid and funny and shows Mumbai Cops' DIMAAG!! There were 4-5 cops standing on the side of the road and one of them stopped me suddenly. I was wondering what did I do. He asked me for license...I showed him. The other cop noted down my bike number and both of them confirmed to each other the same. I asked him why was he writing my bike's number. HA Ha....
He said that it's their job to note down all super-bikes' number due to the illegal import job going on. I just nodded and left and actually stopped for sometime after going a bit further to laugh my ass out...ha ha ha...
I reached home after 8 hours (excluding the time wastage due to stoppages :P)!!
It was an experience of lifetime and will always be in my heart as my first ever road trip...

                              Now...about the krich krich...
The service center in Thane sorted it out. It was nothing but the dust/dirt seal in the front wheel which was making sound. It hasn't harmed the bike in any way. The rubber seal, which needed lubrication, was rubbing against the metal which led to the krich krich...
It is either showroom's fault to not lubricate it while delivering or Yamaha's fault. The latter looks more of a culprit because I've found 2 other guys with these new racing colours having the same problem.
Thanks for all the people who tried to help me with that wired sound.

P.S : I'll try to upload pics as soon as possible. It is taking time because I've to sort out the pictures and compress and stuff. And also...I'm too eager to post my experience..so pictures can wait a little..

                              The pics are here..

                              orkut -

                              AWAITING COMMENTS!!!

                              • Hi Friends,

Iam planning to get Teflon Coating done at Panache Motors, Bangalore - This is the place where I bought my R15, However the service center guy there suggested me to get the Teflon Coating outside in bangalore and not in the showroom as its not worthy and not good quality work.

I have read in the previous post that Panache does good teflon/3M coat

Please let me know If I get it done i Panache or is there any other Service centers in Bangalore who does good Teflon/3M coat
                                preferably in old madras road.
