Dude, R15's chain is notorious... i get this sound on the daily basis whether its after a service or whatever... the sound just doesn't go.

edit: the guy above is also facing the same problem... YOUR CHAIN SOUND WILL NEVER GO ... live with it..

I know I should go easy on it, till the first 2 services, but ITS SO HARD!!!

HERE'S the ISSUE I have been facing. My bike starts making noises after 2nd gear, when engine rpm cross 3000. Its something like
Krich..........Krich..........Krich..........Krich .........As the RPMs increase, speed increases,it becomes Krich...Krich...Krich...Krich... Shorter intervals, same noise.
Any Idea what this can be? My first service is due at 500kms, and I have already done 300 in 5 days...
          Dude..
Where did you buy your bike from? I'm facing the exact same problem..
          I've done 406 kms in 4 days..
According to me, first service is at 1000kms..you sure it's at 500?

Ok, i confess i sure did make a picture a bit scary. But than what i do to maintain my R15's chain ? 2 things, motul's chain cleaner and lubrication, that's what i use. Plus it's serviced/lubricated every 500-600 kms (i.e. once in a week)

Now to tell you my honest feedback about the chain ? it's loud, it makes noise, i am simply living with it. It's not that my sprocket are getting the beating cause last time i checked, my bike has done 21K+ kms and i have just done 1-2 times of chain tightening, also my sprockets are shiny as new. (Back sprocket is black and shiny alright )

EDIT:From my personal experience: chain makes more noise, when you use the bike on dusty roads, so the best practice is to clean the chain once in a week. (i.e. if you are using your bike on dusty road or else once in a fortnight is cool)

            • I wash my chain every 10-14 days , lube it every 300kms , I carry my chain lube on every ride , once it rains and stops , a lube again.

I havent had to adjust my chain from a long time.
The main thing is Noise , I dont face the noise pblm tht ur refering to.

maga i think my chain has gone for a toss.. there is something which i need to check now...i got the bike serviced 2 weeks back, its loose again... and the noise which every1 else is talking about was there even after getting it wash and lubed at Pacer blr.

honestly i do not maintain the chains properly 16000 kms clocked. but why does the chain gets loose every 2-3 weeks

You are right,...first service is at 1000kms,or 30 days from the date of purchase...

Seems like the problem faced by US is related to the bike's chain. Any way around it???

                  • @ Gaurav c- Initially new engines do tend to get real hot. But its not an issue. Just make sure as Tibby said, that the radiator fan does indeed work (kicks in in traffic and you'll feel a slight vibe in the handlebars and hear a whizzzz sound), and the coolant levels are fine.

About the sound, its either the chain or the rear brake pads. Since your bike is just 4 days old, its more of a possibility of it being chain noise. Did it contact water/dirt anytime? If yes, its surely the chain noise.

@ shomeesharma- Bro, take it easy! Wheelies before running in! You're killing the bike! Wait till first service. And you too are facing the chain noise. Just clean and lube properly, and after some runs the noise disappears!
                    You get the point?? :D

                    • Thanks svjhonda, tibby and all..
The sound has gone. There is a seal in the front wheel axel which needed lubrication. The service guy removed wheel and lubricated it. I took a 10-15 km ride after that..no sound..
Well..it seems to be a mistake by yamaha because someshsharma has a new bike and same sound. One more guy with a new yellow R15(odo 200) had come there with the same problem..
                      He too got it rectified..
We were discussing our new bikes..that idiot bought it yesterday, did 200 in a day and took it to speeds above 120..and moreover..he was complaining about mileage..i was like..dude please read the manual..i was instructing him whatever i've learnt then.. :-P

Btw..first part of my run-in will soon get over..415KMs done..

                      • POWERRRR or TORQUEEEE

I am VERY NEW to biking, only 5 days old, and YAMAHA R15 is my first bike.
Had a query...specifications say it produces max power at 8500 and max torque at 7500rpm
What does that mean? Does that mean I will get max acceleration if I shift gears at 8500rpm, or at 7500rpm??

                        • Check whether the chain has life or has it worn out ?
If the chain is worn out also , it could get lose regularly.

Why even try it when you're happy with the HIDs? :P
