What does that mean? Does that mean I will get max acceleration if I shift gears at 8500rpm, or at 7500rpm??
Your bike is new, do your shift RPM experiments later , after run-in !

Between power and torque, it's a little complicated to explain properly in short posts. In any given gear, you get max acceleration at the peak torque or slightly below it ( depending on speed , since air drag increases by factor of square of the speed ). But for any given road speed , you get the most acceleration at the RPM you can get max power at . Like I said, a little complicated without long posts and graphs . There's a whole thread discussing power vs torque , look it up.

If you felt like selling the bike traveling 10s of kms on stock bulb, what do you think that went though my head when I came back from the shrine at Guruvayoor, 520kms of night riding with the bldy fcuked up bulbs? ha??

A snail at 60s and taking my last kms, meter my meter, before I inevitably would hit something and die!
Or hit a pot hole and bent my weak alloys and died of solitude in the middle of nowhere
Or maybe picked by a gay truck driver.. and …

It took 13 hours to cover the 520kms with hardly any breaks that took 7 hours in daylight.

            My ownership experience says:-
This bike is a very focused track bird, requires very regular maintenance and is very sensitive.

Due to its peaky engine it’s no fun in heavy or medium traffic.
            - Love the RX(when weightless and city chambered) or RTR in traffic.
Though it is real fun in light traffic, even better than the RTR.

Boring in doubles, they should make the seat cowl default!
Most girls love to pillion on RTR, even the P220 is ok, girls who are bored and old usually love the R15, I have one such thing

            In 10,000kms, 7 months, I’ve already changed:-
            - Rear tyre once (Rs.550 – hehe managed a sparingly used one)
            - Rear breakpads once ( 1200)
            - Front breakpads once ( 700 )
            - Rear sprocket once (got a interim light weight one for 360 )
            - Reflector(headlight assembly - 2300) once, I must suggest not to use the night breaker for more than 4 hours, continuous.
            - Rear Alloys ( will have to, I had to change to tube on the rear as a result of air leaks )

I’m self-servicing her once a month, thanks to Joel for his valve clearance tip, man it revs and grunts free between 8-10k rpm with .8in/10ex and I have to keep doing it every 60 days to keep her this way.
I must say I am tempted to get Joels power mods….

Hydbiker, I remember you mentioning that you lost the manual, what have you done instead?

Was in a Yamaha service centre when I saw this guy who had lost the manual of his FZ, got another one & continued getting the services through the forms in the new book. Apparently all the servicing forms are sent to Yamaha India online so they can keep track of the services across India. Only prob the dude faced was that he missed his service (date wise) which was during the time his new manul was sent to him. So your dealer should be the best person to help you get a new manual.

                              • Finally picked up my R15 from Mr. Joel yesterday. Now, the bike moves and sounds like how an R-Series Yam should. The low - end till about 4K rpm is not so very different(I think there is though I cant feel it), but once past 4K it just shoots forward like a bullet. The power and torque curve are a lot linear and the power does not drop-off till 10K rpm. Bike continues to accelerate till cut - off. Just freakin' amazing!!! The bike should really be a stonker on the MMSC track.....

I have not sampled a stock R15 for a really long time and could not make out a huge difference hence. The only other R15 I happened to test was Joel's which happened to be from another planet!

Our dear Joel though forgot to stuff the super free-flow exhaust with glass - wool and it sounds as loud as possible!! I had no problems overtaking anyone on the highway on the return leg from Bangy to Chennai. Just whack the throttle in 6th gear at 4K - 5K rpm and it surges forward. I did not even have to down-shift on the ride [Its so very loud too] . I had to hide from cops at Chennai at every signal though.

The air filter is very badly clogged and I have asked our in-house stocker Navnish for the same. Its also running an old 2K km old mineral oil due to which I gave up ripping(Actually it felt strained post 8.5K rpm). Have some work pending for this weekend - Need new air filter, need new spark plugs and also have to replace tires. And more important of all - chrome the exhaust and STUFF SOME GLASS WOOL IN IT!!!!

So here rises another souped-up R15!!!

Next step - the 165cc bore(which will have to wait another 6 months atleast!)
