Here. Please check the bolt/screw encircles in red. Sit on the bike, switch on the engine and the lights, turn it to adjust the beam. Enjoy.

      • Regarding Yamaha YZF-R15

        Hi fellow xBHPians,

Last Saturday I booked my new ride, the R15 from Yamaha Showroom, Pune.
The color is a Midnight Black and I would be expecting the bike delivered to me in 15-20days. Can't wait to ride. However, I've some concerns regarding the bike.

        1. Regarding the servicing of the bike, I've heard there needs to be a change of oil filter in the first service. Is it so?

        2. If any R15 owner in Pune in this thread, could you please let me know what service center is good to get the bike serviced.

        3. I commute to my office driving a total of ~50kms. Are there any performance upgrades I need to look for to better/spruce up my ride.
What best fuel I should use for. Speed or XtraPremium, etc.?

        4. What safety riding gears would you suggest for the new bike. I would not like to make any modifications to the stock parts though right now. May be at a later sage.

        5. What riding gear should I opt for?

I am having an Awesome time with my ride.
          she's hott and what not.
just back from a 700 km long drive with a 80 kg pillion and stil rocking.
          she handles bumps like crazy.
one thing for all R15 owners watch out for the Mono-shock kissing some pavement on the bigger bumps, this happened a lot with the Heavy pillion on the back.
          Mileage awesome, ride experience awesome.
note - the stock seat which comes with the R15 makes you scratch your arse a lot after a few hours.
not good at all, i am planning to add some good seat cover.
thats about it from me now!

          • just checking in with my fellow R15ers... hope you and your steeds are both doin great!

Riding my R15 from first week of Sep 2009, completed 18,500kms in 8 months.

            Problems faced till now:
Only vibrations at around 6k rpm (when my bike was still under 10k kms on odo), set it right by tightening the engine manifold nuts (the ones holding engine to chassis) after digislayer told me what to do.

            Front disk pads replaced twice
            Rear pads once
Rear brake light burnt out twice (this was weird)
Tires to be replaced about now
Front fairing twice, HL assy once, Right RVM replaced 4 (yes, four) times, read below for how and why

3 falls (two of them when bike was <5kmph), one due to my carelessness @ 30kmph.
An accident where bike didnt fall but I rammed into a guy who jumped from the divider right into my path, he rolled up till the top of my fairing screen. Couldn't do anything, guy wasn't even drunk, maybe he had a suicide wish but the R15 nose wasn't sharp enough for him (sad for him n fortunate for me)
A stoppie FAIL where the bike flipped over and landed on me. I had enough safety gear so I escaped without a scratch, can't say that about the bike.

My r15 is giving me a mileage of 39-42 in the city (best was 43 when I was running on shell super, not for too long coz I realized I couldn't afford it in the long run + shell pumps are few and far between).

I couldn't be happier. I love my bike.

Thanks again to all those on this thread (hydbiker, sarvajit, santoosh, satyenpoojary, navnish and more) who helped me make my decision directly/indirectly.

            Cheers

hmmm... found a place to fix that thing?

you might have to fix an extra luggage box and hide the battery inside that.

                        5. What riding gear should I opt for?
                        @ Kiranps
First of all dude welcome to xbhp and congrats for booking the best bike out there . Answers to your question:

                        1. Yes oil filter needs to be changed during the first service; metallic granules come off when the engine parts bed in with each other and this happens in the first few km's for all engine. These shavings get into the oil and then the oil filter and the oil itself needs to be changed at the first service. It is mandatory to do so if you wish to keep your warranty.

                        2. Pune guys plz help him on this.

                        3. No need for any performance upgrades keep her stock. And plz for god's sakes don't even thinking of up-sizing the tires. You can use premium fuel like speed/ xtra premium for the added benefit of additives keeping your ride smooth for a longer time. although I don't intend to do so for my R15 as I don't think that these premium fuels do us any good.

4.safety riding gear that you could buy are Helmet(first and foremost), riding gloves, elbow guards, shoulder guards, knee guards(these come in two variants bionic and a-bionic), a good breathable riding jacket, riding shoes. You can also check out riding pants but according to me a good pair of sturdy jeans will suffice.

PS: yours and my R15 are both due for delivery on almost the same date. Good luck on that. I'm getting mine on 14th. Keep good care of her and she'll reward you with years of riding pleasure.

@ mods: why is this thread in the what bike section?? shouldn't this be merged in the ownership experience thread??
A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

As I'm new to this forum, I didn't know where to post my query in this regard. Please move it to the right section as needed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

would it support the circuit of R15, may be not.

                              Congrats on the decision!

                              1. Regarding the servicing of the bike, I've heard there needs to be a change of oil filter in the first service. Is it so?
Yes, oil filter will be changed at 1st service (1000kms.)&then every 10K kms. Cost is Rs.430.

                              3. I commute to my office driving a total of ~50kms. Are there any performance upgrades I need to look for to better/spruce up my ride.
I would not suggest aftermarket upgrades.
The Daytona Racing kit is available, but costs a bomb, voids warranty&is not street legal.

What best fuel I should use for. Speed or XtraPremium, etc.?
Use any 91 octane petrol like ExtraPremium. The bike has a compression ratio of 10.4:1. Vehicles with CR>10.0:1 run best on 91 octane.

                              4. What safety riding gears would you suggest for the new bike. I would not like to make any modifications to the stock parts though right now. May be at a later sage.
The side fairing itself acts as a crash guard. It costs Rs.575. Installing crash bobbins/frame sliders is not possible without drilling the fairing.

                              5. What riding gear should I opt for?
For city use minimum is a helmet. Gloves if you feel comfortable wearing them daily. I would recommend atleast using them initially as your palms will take some getting used to the riding posture.
If you are planning to tour, you can think of knee&elbow protectors/armored jackets, pants, boots, what not!
More on the Riding Gears thread.
                              Quench my thirst with gasoline!
