Stay on topic guys. All posts about drag racing have been deleted.

this is gonna be posted by 1 or the other mod if u guys keep on discussing drag bikes and drag events on an ownership thread.

@ JD: Try asking on the rd350ht ownership exp thread as most rd owners wont need to own an r15 and hence wont even look here . Then again, I dont think an RD ownership exp thread exists.

        • In my total stretch of 10-12kms.one way, I revv up my bike to 8-9K RPM daily atleast on a 2-3 kms.stretch to&fro office. I believe this helps in clearing out the clogging in the fuel injectors&someone also said this can help in good combustion, thereby reducing carbon deposits.
That apart, in layman language all I can say is, in traffic we don't have a choice, but when I get a free stretch, I use the power the bike offers me, within the safe limits of course. If you cultivate your bike to being slow, it will be slow.

          • Missing Oil Strainer in Brand New Bike

Bought a R15 Impact Yellow on 29th July. Was riding a Zma for the last five years. Went for first service on 9th this month. But there wasn't the Oil strainer and Spring inside the drain nut. How does it happens in a New bike. I think it has to be checked from the assembly line itself. Right? The mechanic was also searching for that, when i asked him, he said there might not be that Spring and strainer in the new bike as there are some changes in the new bikes. I believed that and agreed to it as i was in a hurry to get back to my work. But i want to clear about that matter. Called the Yamaha Office in Cochin and i was told that there should be there. He also said, that has to be checked by the dealer before delivering the bike. That means, they have to drain the engine oil of the brand new bike and check it and pour it back. Do you guys think that is fair for a new bike? That can be checked from the factory itself. Right? Anyway.. still it is running with out the strainer. There is no stock with the dealer. so i have to wait for 7 days at least.
What do you guys think about this? anybody faced this before?

My question is-->is it too early for the bike's engine to give so much stress, was i doing it too early even before the 2nd service is done and i have draged her several times maybe 7 or 8 times should i stop this drag thing for the time being or there's no problem to continue it. what are the beatings does the engine gets if i keep dragging...
This bike's engine has the DiASil cylinder and a forged piston, which means it definitely can take a lot more stress than the usual steel cylinder linings and cast pistons. In fact, many of us old owners have noticed that this engine breaks-in at around 6k KMs usually..that's when you feel the engine getting free. That should give you an idea of how tough it is, but then..you need to take care about heat building up. make sure you never rev the bike too much too long, long enough for the engine to heat up excessively and cause excessive wear. You're good as long as the engine's running at normal temperatures. Also, remember it's not good to break-in an engine while running it at the same RPM most of the time, you need to keep varying the RPM for a healthy break-in. Also, make sure you change your engine oil earlier than recommended to keep your engine running fine.

what do you think it is?
Well, nothing really strikes my mind..except maybe the engine manifold nuts. Seems likes resonance to me, get all the engine manifold nuts checked and tightened if necessary.

Now now..what do you call revving the bike to 10k RPM everyday for a stretch of 13kms, twice a day! I'm happy with my college route! Throws 3 nice corners enroute, and is free enough to do 130kmph occasionally in the mornings! It stays between 7k and 10k for me most of the time..and the engine is doing great even after covering 16k KMs this way, has a CO reading of 0.80 in the pollution checkup! I'm SO happy everyday for buying this bike!

Well, it definitely is a mistake..but then mistakes do happen, no matter how huge a manufacturer is. Nobody is perfect you see, it's just luck that the mistake happened for your bike. Maybe you should just get things corrected as soon as possible. Try talking to the Yamaha Head Office of your area. Things'll get faster then, you'll not have to wait for the dealer to get the stock.
              Sunny.

What you get at 4000 rpm is resonance but the vibes at that time can be one of the 3 things, generally.

                1) As digislayer mentioned it could be the engine mount nuts
                2) Fairing makes noise at this RPM if any joints or screws are loose
                3) if the chain is dry you get vibes in foot pegs. the left one particularly. when lubing the chain make sure to check the front sprocket too.

At about 10K KMs on the odo my R15 had a CO reading below 0.20 and about 25K KMs on the odo it was about 0.50. I was a bit worried. Where did you check it?

There is a PUC checking Van near your place. Just a few feet before the 6 lane road (with service road) starts in Madinaguda. That guy has a properly working machine and knows his stuff.

Hehe. Mine is on 0.40 at 16,3xx kms!! I'm supremely elated too!!

The only qualm now is I can hear tappet noise. Does the tappet noise come prominently when decelerating in a low gear (meaning using some engine braking?)?

Mysterious thing is I can't make it out at idling...
                  You get the point?? :D

                  • 1st service @ Ambika Motors (new Delhi)

                    Guys,

Got my first service @ dot 30 days (840 Kms)...

                    Got the following done
                    1> Oil filter change @ 430/-
                    2> Engine Oil change - Stuck to Yamalube 15W -50 (Semi Syn) @ 415/-
                    3> Chain cleaned and lubed @ 100/-
                    4> Coolant was topped up 200 ml @ 70/-
5> The Master Cylinder gasket had a leak, which they changed FOC

Friends however i noticed that my Master cylinder had marks. The pain was scraped off at places. On inquiring they said that the DOT4 oil is very difficult to remove and it has eaten the paint... Is this correct or was my MASTER CYLINDER Swapped - please tell me

Overall satisfied with the service received...

                    • Thanks digislayer for replying soon. But you know, i contacted Yamaha's head office here in Cochin. The Yamaha Engineer convinced me not to worry about that. coz the bike as a paper element filter to filter any impurities. The oil strainer is for additional filtering.

My bike has clocked 1250 till now. I am facing chain noise now. i just dont know how to clean the chain and lube it although i have Motul chain clean and chain lube with me. i just put the Bike rear wheel raised and spray the chain clean to the lower chain run and wipe most of the dusts and other. Then let it dry and then spray the chain lube by running the chain. am I correct? I do spray a good quantity of lube. Please advice
If you need a reason to ride, you are not on the right bike.

Before letting it dry, pressure wash with water and then with pressurized air. Although I skip these 2 steps as I lube the chain at my place and dont have the pressurizing machins at home

I do spray a good quantity of lube. Please advice
The sufficient amount of lube according to my exp is when the chain, at all places become sticky(as motul chain lube is quite sticky). Hence ensuring that all places have been covered by the lube . Over lubing the chain is also not good for it.

                        • Completed first service of my bike today at 1025km. Man the svc guys were so well mannered and courteous! When i was making my job card a guy there even asked me, "Sir have you brought your oil?" to which i replied "No, i would use the Yamalube 15W50 semi synth only." Im really pleased with Yamaha's way of treating customers when they are forced to complain by the svc. Just one email does the trick.
You can only ride better tomorrow if you ride safe today.

                            • Hey... is there any frame sliders(crash bobbins) available for R15? Did anybody uses a tank pad for R15 rather than the Yamaha one. The tank pad from yamaha spoils the look of the new R15 graphics as the graphics are till the top of the tank.. if anybody uses after market tank pads please put pics..
