Dude, I have to meet you sometime!Originally posted by digislayer View PostYeah, that's why I make sure I get it done at 2 or 3 places before trusting.
And for this very reason, I'm in the process of building an AFR guage, to measure the oxygen in the exhaust! :P
That's a relief! Lets see, anyways, will be worth checking for tappets sometime...Originally posted by digislayer View PostNo, the crazy sound that comes when you decelerate isn't tappet noise..I too had a similar doubt in the beginning
For wrong tappet settings, you get the "loose marbles" sound at idle and when you rev the engine slightly while it's in neutral.
For one, please don't post in all caps. It is difficult to read, and it appears like you're shouting.Originally posted by rajit999 View PostLAST MONTH I GAVE MY BIKE TO THE SERVICE CENTER GUYS FOR A GENERAL CHECK UP AS I THOUGHT OF ATTENDING THE G2G HELD AT BALASORE. MY HEALTH WAS NOT AT ALL GOOD AND I BOUGHT THE BIKE FROM SERVICE CENTER AFTER A A COUPLE OF DAYS, WHILE DRIVING I FELT A DRASTIC CHANGE LIKE THERE WAS SOME CONGESTION IN THE FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE WHICH USED TO JERK AND STOP AT LOW SPEEDS AND WOULD STOP, BUT NOW IT TOTALLY REFUSES TO START AND I GAVE MY BIKE TO THE SERVICE CENTER GUYS AND THEY SAY IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND U MAY NEED TO CHANGE IT WORTH 7K. ITS BEEN 2 YEARS AND I HAVE DONE AROUND 6000 Kms ONLY.
I FEEL LIKE MY FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN CHANGED WITH A DEFECTIVE ONES, IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE FUEL PUMP WHICH THE COMPANY HAVE ASSEMBLED ON TO MY BIKE WHEN I PURCHASED IT.
GUYS HELP ME OUT
And secondly, yes, its possible the pump might've been switched, but why would the svc do that? And if they have done it, there's no way, because you don't have the pump's old serial number.
Try for warranty, otherwise claim insurance. You get the point?? :D

@parth - second incident in a short spread of time right??
@rajit999 - even if you have done 6000 kms only, if your bike has generally stood with a dry tank, or very low amount of fuel, debris/waste in the fuel can clog your fuel pump. Since with 6000 kms in two years, is a case of a bike standing for long.

Any idea how long the front break pads last on an average?Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

Thanks Digislayer... No scratches, however post my 1st service, the fairing has started to make some noise... its vibrating @ 4K levels... I'm confusedOriginally posted by digislayer View PostBrake dluid really does peel paint off. But check for any physical marks. Like scratches, etc. brake fluid only peels paint off, doesn't scratch it!Exhaust Notes - The sweetest sound

Must be some fairing resonance...guess the guys at your SS missed out on some bushes while re-fitting your fairing, or else they must've not tightened the fairing screws properly. Also, check if the noise is coming from the visor area, there're a few thin foam tapes over there which need to be replaced sometimes.Originally posted by MSD View PostThanks Digislayer... Not always..I had to change mine at around 8k, and now changed again at 16.5k. It all depends on how much of braking you use. I don't abuse my brakes, but use them as necessary and it lasted that much for me. Remember these pads are made of soft organic material.Originally posted by sheelpriye View PostFront should last at least for 15K, rear depends entirely on your usage and road conditions(too mucky & it will eat into your pads)
EDIT: I was talking about the front brake pads..forgot mentioning before!Last edited by digislayer; 08-16-2010, 07:55 AM.Sunny.

Mine rear has been changed twice in a span of 10K & i know for a fact I won't be changing the rear in the future.Originally posted by digislayer View PostNot always..I had to change mine at around 8k, and now changed again at 16.5k. The front will have to be bled this service & I am not sure of its life post monsoons.

Hmm... while I don't abuse the brakes (or for that matter the bike), my riding style is predominantly front brake biased, around 85% t0 90% is front brake. The rear brake is only touched upon lightly to keep the rear from stepping out... so I guess your estimate of 8k should be more accurate for me... need to get it checked out...Originally posted by digislayer View PostNot always..I had to change mine at around 8k, and now changed again at 16.5k. My 1st front and rear disc pads changed at 16500 kms.
2nd set changed at 31XXX kms.
Now the third set im running on.
They last if you know how to use it the right way. :-)
Front rear applying ratio .
Generally 70-30 .
Varies again on situations

^^^ there you go... you said it.
Life reduced by half is defanitely not easy to digest. But then, may be you brake hard!!! your disc would not be in as good shape as it was when new - it might bite more material off the pad, and there could be more reasons but again, cannot digest the fall from 16K to 8K KMs.
But then, Santa, I think I have heard from several people that 8K to 10K KMs is about what the brake pads life is, in city driving conditions. So, if one is in the same territory, hope this can act as a Hajmola

I changed both my pads together at 13000 kms. Second set using now. The rear though has won out a lot more now as I used the rear due to an ill-handling front.Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. Liberty is when the sheep has a gun.
