Also, I can get the one on display if I pay them now, however, I am tight on cash right now; planning on one by Diwali (Oct. salary would be the saviour ). Do u suggest I go for it or trust the dealer and wait for the 'new' consignment?
well, i have also seen the LE r15 here at the showroom
      i tell you a point
these dealers what they are going is...they are replacing the fibre parts to the white one.
my friend wanted a white r15, the dealer said to wait for one month..after a month the white r15 was handed over
but one thing was missing..it was the black engine..
in his r15 the fibre parts were white but the engine was silver coloured, from that i pointed out that they have changed the fibre parts and sell it in the name of LE.
check for your machine whether it is having a black engine or not
LEs are supposed to have a black engine
      hope, it helps

Well, the engine was black and the rims were white too. The rear grab-rail was black and everything else looked very much in place.

Am now kind of inclined towards taking this particular machine (the one on display) until someone can confirm if they (Yamaha) might really have a consignment of whites by month-end.

Kindly help me with your inputs!

in your case, the dealer must be having the LEs in stock
          as per my view
the production of LE r15s have stopped
therefore, the are neither on the website nor in the brochure

it is better to get the one on the display
man, i would never suggest you to trust the dealer
whenever i order spare parts i do not get them before 2 or 3 months

I can understand what you're going through! Sorry to hear about that! The scene's bit better in Bangalore- Reds & Blues are readily available for delivery.

If I do not manage to get the white, probably I would also go for the yellow!

                    • 20,000 kms/2yrs Ownership report

I wouldn’t have been riding this bike had it not been for my uncle who convinced my dad for buying this awesome piece of machinery.

                      Performance:
On paper she might not be the one with the best power/torque figures but the feel that comes after riding this baby is unparallel. I agree with people when they say that she lacks low-end torque but it’s only till a matter of time that you get accustomed to this bike. And this lack of low-end punch makes the post 7k rpm power surge feel even more interesting. The thing that I like the most about her is the way she develops power and the way she handles. She easily clocks 130kmph when riding alone and 120kmph when riding with a pillion and thereafter she accelerates but at a slower pace. The top-speed that I’ve clocked is 144 km/hr (of course Speedo-indicated).
On refinement front I would rate her second only after Unicorn and not to forget the silky smooth gearshifts.

                      Handling, Braking and Efficiency:
There is no doubt that R15 is the best handling bike in India. Getting your knee-down is so easy and so much fun now that I absolutely enjoy cornering with her. Thanks to delta-box frame and the grippy tyres. Also she’s quite flickable. The only thing that might bother you in heavy traffic is the large turning radius. Except this there’s nothing much to worry about.
Regarding the brakes they do their job brilliantly. They once saved me from what could have been a nasty crash. I was doing 130kmph on NH-5 on the fast (Right) lane when a bus ahead of me (on the left lane) decided to take a take a U-turn without any indication or signal. I squeezed in both the brakes increasing the applied pressure on them slowly and simultaneously trying to sense if there is a wheel-lock (so that I can release pressure off the brakes to prevent the tyre from skidding). And I managed to stop just in time. Those 2-3 seconds were really scary!!!
When it comes to efficiency it depends a lot on the riding style. I’m able to extract 40~42kmpl from her with around 60% of the driving being done on NH. The best avg. that I’ve got is 48 kmpl and the worst is 38 kmpl.

                      Maintenance:
The maintenance of this bike is a bit on the higher side but thats the least one can do to maintain this baby. I’ve been lubing the chain every 500 kms and the frequency increases during rainy season. Used Motul chain and lube but it was a bit expensive for me. So now I’m using kerosene to clean and SAE 90 grade gear oil to lube it. During the course of 20k kms the following parts have been replaced.
                      1. Airfilter once during 10k km
                      2. Oil-filter twice ( once after 1st service and second 10k km)
                      3. Sparkplug after 10k
                      4. Replacing Yamalube Semi-Synth oil every 2k kms
                      5. Topped up coolant twice.
6.Front and rear disc pad after 17k n 18k kms respectively.

Since I’ve just completed 20k kms Air-filter & oil-filter are due for replacement. Will replace them within this week.

                      Problems faced so far
1.My rear tyre was loosing pressure every other day. Checked it at home & found that air was leaking near the edge of the rim. Got it corrected at a local tyre shop, but still this problem keeps on recurring.

2.Missing Engine mounting bolt. Last year I started experiencing vibration from near the front sprocket area. Upon checking I found that one of the engine mounting bolts was missing. Got a new one and the problem was solved.

And did I mention she turned 2 today??
Here are a few pics of my baby....

Ummm, YES, the new red is called "Sunset Red'' is very much different from the old red which was called ''Blazing red''

As you can see, the color tone is very different. I cant put the old red colored cowl on my bike since it will look odd and wont go with the bike's bright red color. What do I do? Should I go black?

BTW, NEWS: The new Limited Edition R15s are coming with BLACK rims. Yes, complete BLACK rims, both front and back! I asked the mechanic why the one in the showroom had black rims, he said that the company is sending the new LEs like this! Damn! It looks sexy now!
                        D'oh!

My R15 is 6 odd months young and is about to go in for the fifth service @12k kms range (i believe a lot few overhauling needs to be done at this point, is it ?) Bikes been ridden mostly around the red zone and has taken a whole lot of beating at three digit speeds.

For this service I have decided to replace spark plug, air filter element, engine oil filter element, and air filter. do i need to replace anything else at this point ? (am i missing something here ? )

I have decided to adjust the valve clearance, and i also believe both swingarm and steering bearings need to be lubricated with lithium based grease. please confirm.

I have read a lot of posts in the thread about using 15w50 motul fully synthetic oil. But the manual says 20w40 is the grade that we should stick to (as per my knowledge the last two digits of the grade **W40 should never b changed) so why 15w50. i myself have been using 5w40 fully synth from motul since 6000 kms.

If 15w50 Motul fully synthetic is better then i will change to that grade and since I'am anyway replacing the engine oil filter element, it shouldn't be a problem, right ?

                              thanks in advance, regards.

The manual says that we can use either 20W40 or 20W50. The first digit can be varied without facing any problem unless you live in Leh or where the temperatures are very low. So the Motul will be fine as it is 15W50..
