    Thanks Parth

Ok my friends yesterday i.e. 08/10/10 my bike finished her 10,000km on ODO> I was very happy when she did that and I clicked pics of the ODO which said 9999kms and then it went to 10000kms, oi will post it later. It was a special feeling.
As per friends who dont know I have a Black R15 which was bought in March this year. And yes this is my second bike first one being RX100 (1987 model) which is still with me.

Review of 10000kms on my R15

When I bought the bike, I was a bit nervous as the sitting position of this bike had been discussed to many levels here. But still I had tested the bike before I bought it, so I took the chance and went ahead and bought it. And yes I am a very happy man today, thanks to my decision. I had started researching about the bike 6mths before I had her with me. [Thanks to Sarvajit, Ken Da, And all my friends here who with their valuable inputs helped me to take the correct decision and live life with her, its just got better now. Thank you all]
Though, even I took around 3 days to get adjusted to her siting position. Since being a RX rider, initially I used to feel a bit uncomfortable riding her. But then as I got adapted to her sitting style, ohhh man she was a smooth Angel on tarmacs. After that i rode her and got to know her in first 2000kms on her odo.
And after that there was no stopping of us being together and having fun. Which including with zip-zapping through city traffic, riding non-stop for couple of hours on tours, getting her loaded with lot of luggage ( saddle bag and a back pack ) and zipping through hill roads, latest being, doing a 520kms ride with a pillion in rain affected roads with lots of pot holes. Ohh and how can I forget riding through Delhi rains this season , with silencer submerged, water splashing from over the front side and coming to windshield. I was amazed to see her perform in rains and man I thank God that I bought this beautiful machine.

    Maintenance in first 10000kms

-> I always used to get the bike serviced in time without fail i.e after every 3000kms.

-> Get chain lubed after every 500kms in first 5000kms on the ODO, after that I switched to 1000kms. But in rains I used to get the chain lubed even after 200kms if it meant riding the bike in water logged areas.

->switched to Semi-Synthetic Yamalube oil after 1000kms (but I prolonged my run-in period to 3000km, just because i had to ride long on bike in its initial days)

-> now at 9000km switched to Motul5100 15W50 and yes I am liking the Oil as it is giving a good response.

    Wear/Tear

-> Brake Pads changed at 9000km.
-> Had idling issues which got sorted out by the SVC guys as my Air Intake Manifold got loose.
-> 4 punctures on rear tyre.
-> Chain Tensioner set to 3.2 now.

    Tours

    1st - Lucknow-Delhi
    2nd - Delhi-Kasauli-Naldhera-Delhi
    3rd - Delhi-Narkanda-Jalori Pass-Rohtang Pass-Delhi
    4th - Delhi-Bhangarh Fort-Delhi
    5th - Delhi-Lucknow-Delhi

and many small trips of around 200kms in a day like Neemrana, Agra, Murthal.
    and many more to come

    Conclusion

This bike is still the smartest bike on Indian roads in this segment as per me. I have heard about people complaining about back problems in this bike. yes I know traffic jams can make you uncomfortable on this bike, but then once u ride her properly then maximum I got was a bit of wrist pain. While touring I have ridden for about 2hrs continuously, but I never got up the next day with sore back due to riding style. I have taken this bike in roads which are in harrowing conditions. Yes this is a track bike which is not meant for these type of roads with almost No Tarmac, but riding her comfortably made me realize that she can be ridden on any conditions whether it is slush, offroads, potholes. But then one has to be very careful as the tyre is not that supportive if the Tarmac is absent.
I am very satisfied with this bike, its money worth spent. And yes the quality of the bike is amazing. Though I still have to learn a lot about this bike, which I am sure this thread will make me teach. So I am waiting to spent more time with her and lets see when her 20k mark comes in YES YAMAHA

      • Is it necessary to change the oil filter when we change from yamalube to motul, as the grade is same...I was thinking to change to motul but I m not really in condition to spend those extra bucks..

              • Is it possible to buy only Daytona ECU, High Lift Camshaft & Alloy Sprockets instead of going for the entire package? Also, do Two Bro exhaust for R15 unbearably loud?

You may (should) get it changed when your next scheduled oil-change interval arrives.

                        • Muffler end cap

Hey guys, today I bought the Golden colored Muffler cap for my stock exhaust. Costed me Rs.1250/- total for once piece. They fit it for me and gave. It looks real good now and compliments the rear section of the bike

The first thing that I noticed after installing the muffler cap was my exhaust note changed! It sounds a lot better now. Due to the longer cylindrical area for the air to exit, a bass note is added to the bike sound! I never thought this was going to happen, but now, the bike sounds a lot better Got more than I bargained for

I know, the R15 already sounds lovely, but this extra base note to the screamer is delightful! Its not exaggerated like the K&N filter sound.. very mild, but noticeable.

One doubt: I asked for the single seat cowl in my bike's color (new red) and they said it isn't available in the new red. Only the old crimson red was available. They dont make the new red seat cowl? I should go for black then?
                          D'oh!

                            • 12,000 kms dun - 6 odd mnths young !!

                              @all.

My R15 is 6 odd months young and is about to go in for the fifth service @12k kms range (i believe a lot few overhauling needs to be done at this point, is it ?) Bikes been ridden mostly around the red zone and has taken a whole lot of beating at three digit speeds.

For this service I have decided to replace spark plug, air filter element, engine oil filter element, and air filter. do i need to replace anything else at this point ? (am i missing something here ? )

I have decided to adjust the valve clearance, and i also believe both swingarm and steering bearings need to be lubricated with lithium based grease. please confirm.

I have read a lot of posts in the thread about using 15w50 motul fully synthetic oil. But the manual says 20w40 is the grade that we should stick to (as per my knowledge the last two digits of the grade **W40 should never b changed) so why 15w50. i myself have been using 5w40 fully synth from motul since 6000 kms.

If 15w50 Motul fully synthetic is better then i will change to that grade and since I'am anyway replacing the engine oil filter element, it shouldn't be a problem, right ?

                              thanks in advance, regards.

                              • Guys, I booked a R15 yesterday. I was lucky to book a White one. I was doubtful of getting the LE but was surprised to see one on display in the showroom. The dealer promised the bike by this month end.

However, after reading everywhere on the net, this limited edition doesn't seem to available anywhere. Now, I'm concerned if the dealer promised a White only to retain a customer or it is really available. Could you guys give any inputs on it?

Also, I can get the one on display if I pay them now, however, I am tight on cash right now; planning on one by Diwali (Oct. salary would be the saviour ). Do u suggest I go for it or trust the dealer and wait for the 'new' consignment?
