My bike has clocked 1250 till now. I am facing chain noise now. i just dont know how to clean the chain and lube it although i have Motul chain clean and chain lube with me. i just put the Bike rear wheel raised and spray the chain clean to the lower chain run and wipe most of the dusts and other. Then let it dry and then spray the chain lube by running the chain. am I correct? I do spray a good quantity of lube. Please advice
Yes, that's what even I thought. The oil-filter should take care of everything. And regarding the chain clean & lube, it's not just about the quantity. It's also about where and how you spray it. Make sure you spray with full pressure onto the chain's link gaps. Will try to attach a pic soon. Give the rollers last preference, pressure spray the link gaps first, that'll loosen the dirt. Similarly, pressure spraying the lube also onto the link gaps make sure the lube gets to seep well.

There is a PUC checking Van near your place. Just a few feet before the 6 lane road (with service road) starts in Madinaguda. That guy has a properly working machine and knows his stuff.
TYhat's where I got it checked! It was actually 0.70 with wrong tappet settings. And then, I changed the CO value to +3 and it changed to 0.80 . Later got the tappets corrected at Pearl, didn't get to check it again after that..will do that soon. It costs just 35 Rs and is a sure indicator of the engine health I feel!

The only qualm now is I can hear tappet noise. Does the tappet noise come prominently when decelerating in a low gear (meaning using some engine braking?)?

Mysterious thing is I can't make it out at idling...
No, the crazy sound that comes when you decelerate isn't tappet noise..I too had a similar doubt in the beginning For wrong tappet settings, you get the "loose marbles" sound at idle and when you rev the engine slightly while it's in neutral.

Brake dluid really does peel paint off. But check for any physical marks. Like scratches, etc. brake fluid only peels paint off, doesn't scratch it!

No frame sliders for R15. And I'd really suggest you to go with the Yamaha tank pad. It serves its purpose with full practicality. After market tank pads usually get damaged due to sun's UV radiation and become yellow, etc.

Yeah, that's why I make sure I get it done at 2 or 3 places before trusting. And for this very reason, I'm in the process of building an AFR guage, to measure the oxygen in the exhaust! :P

I've havent toured on my r15 buddy. My longest ride till date has been delhi-karnal-delhi which is about 300 kms total. Since your bike is 1250km old, I believe you have completed the first service. Now as per manual you can rev upto 7k rpm, but I'd recommend that you put a tap at 6k rpm. Also try to vary the rpms once in a while as the engine is relatively new. Also as a precaution, invest in a tubeless tire repair kit as the soft compound rear tire tends to pick up lots of needles. Apart from that, check your coolant level, lube your chain, check your chain for looseness/over tighteness and I think you'll be fine.

Enjoy the tour and post a thread in the tourer section with pics

What you get at 4000 rpm is resonance but the vibes at that time can be one of the 3 things, generally.

            1) As digislayer mentioned it could be the engine mount nuts
            2) Fairing makes noise at this RPM if any joints or screws are loose
            3) if the chain is dry you get vibes in foot pegs. the left one particularly. when lubing the chain make sure to check the front sprocket too.
i agree with you and digislayer
it could be the engine mount nuts
            i will get it checked

            • I met with an accident a couple of weeks ago. Was enjoying leaning a bit too much, leaned into a right a bit too hard and the exit wasn't clear, a zma which was leaning 5-6 bike's distance in front of me suddenly hit the brakes and came to a complete halt. I hit the brakes a little and the bike just went from under me. Under normal road circumstances I'd been okay but it had rained some 4 hours ago so the road was still wet, maybe due to this the rear gave up.

Anyways, the right side outer fairing has some serious scratches. The inner fairing has scratches on a little patch and the headlight fairing has a little scratch. The brake pedal was bent towards the inside, and the brake lever is scratched quite a bit.

My knee has sustained bruises, apart from the knee I didnot have any other injury.

I wasn't able to ride since then as I had a bad knee, still I got the bent brake pedal repaired. It's allright now, but still not in the position as a stock pedal. May need to change the pedal. Does anyone know how much the brake pedal costs? (I do not require the right footrest or the lean angle feeler, just the brake pedal).

Today, as I was missing her a lot I got up early and went for a little ride. Touched 130, had some tea and came back. Then I took all the fairings apart to see the damage done to the insides of the fairings as I could feel some vibrations coming from the front at high speeds. The fairings have cracked in 3 places. Also 2 screws are missing (not the hex key type screws but the normal screwdriver type screws that are located on the black plastic panel that runs along the radiator). I'll post some pics of the missing screws later.

I think I'd have to replace almost all the plastics on the bike to get it back to factory look. I'm thinking about claiming insurance for the repair costs. My insurance company is National Insurance. Can anyone tell me the procedure of getting an insurance claim?

Also, My insurance is not of cash-less type which means I'd have to pay for all the parts and after that I'll get a cheque from the insurance company. So I'd like to get an estimate for the amount I'll be going to spend while getting the bike into a good shape. I'll be replacing :

              1.headlight fairing
              2.Inner fairing on right side
3.outer fairing on right and left both sides
              4.Brake pedal
              5.Exhaust cover
              6.Exhaust cap

Can anyone tell me the prices of these parts?

buddy, i too met with a similar accident and the same parts were damaged on my bike also. infact, after all the raplacements i face a lot of vibrations at 4000 rpm at the tank and the foot pegs. check for that too. you need to fill up a for for an insurance survey. the form can be collected from the insurance office and you will get the survey the same day. then after the final billing you have to show the bill to them to get the final amount, but it would take a lot of time. i mean say 2 weeks. keep patience

i guess in your case the repairs would be around some 2500.

Thankfully the only vibes I felt was after around the ton mark, so I think the vibes are off the fairings being loose. I think my insurance cover only 50% of the plastic parts. Do you have the bill with you? Can you post up a pic of the same?......Also, in my case, will I be required to pay for the labour charges for installing the new plastics??

Any idea about how much the other documentation/misc charges maybe while claiming the insurance?.

I can do with 2 weeks as long as my baby gets back to her old self.

yes, your vibrations are due to the damaged plastic. my vibrations are due to the tappets as thet have never been adjusted and they got worse after the crash. we guys are brothers man even my knee was toasted like yours
ok, i will post the pic of my bill when i reach my home.
mine repairs were around rs.12,000 coz my front shock absorber, fender and rear quarter panel, cowl were also damaged. yes you will get 50% for your plastic parts. well the labour charges were paid by the insurance. i am nnot quite sure about your insurance but they charged me rs 500 for the insurance claim.

I'm fine. Thanks for the concern. I have started riding again but have lots of trouble in traffic as 1 has to continously move the legs and put them on road to support the bike in bumper to bumper traffic.

@ pranjal: Damn Rs500 is quite much for just claiming the insurance. I mean my parts would just cost about Rs2000 -2500 and uska 50% - 500 means that I'll get just Rs500 from the insurance claim .......that does not make me happy. Lets see what quote the svc gives for the parts.

at least you will get something. it is better to have something than nothing. it is better not to claim for insurance for minor estimates. fir get the estimated amount from the dealer, then we will think to claim or not.

LAST MONTH I GAVE MY BIKE TO THE SERVICE CENTER GUYS FOR A GENERAL CHECK UP AS I THOUGHT OF ATTENDING THE G2G HELD AT BALASORE. MY HEALTH WAS NOT AT ALL GOOD AND I BOUGHT THE BIKE FROM SERVICE CENTER AFTER A A COUPLE OF DAYS, WHILE DRIVING I FELT A DRASTIC CHANGE LIKE THERE WAS SOME CONGESTION IN THE FUEL SUPPLY TO THE ENGINE WHICH USED TO JERK AND STOP AT LOW SPEEDS AND WOULD STOP, BUT NOW IT TOTALLY REFUSES TO START AND I GAVE MY BIKE TO THE SERVICE CENTER GUYS AND THEY SAY IT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP AND U MAY NEED TO CHANGE IT WORTH 7K. ITS BEEN 2 YEARS AND I HAVE DONE AROUND 6000 Kms ONLY.

I FEEL LIKE MY FUEL PUMP HAS BEEN CHANGED WITH A DEFECTIVE ONES, IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET THE SERIAL NUMBER OF THE FUEL PUMP WHICH THE COMPANY HAVE ASSEMBLED ON TO MY BIKE WHEN I PURCHASED IT.
