Clean chain with kerosene and toothbrush . If you've already purchased the motul chain spray , you may just as well use it after cleaning .. it's very good . If not bought the motul yet , don't , use SAE90/EP90 gear oil ( castrol or the cheaper BP , mak's okk too .. ) with same toothbrush , it's cheap and just as good . Psr advices grease afterwards , which I tried ( after the gear oil) and found to substantially reduce chain noise , goooood . The blackish heavy petroleum grease I have is messy . Chains are made of very hard steel , I can't see any oil hardening it any further .
isn't it ? I still need to find time to go to shop for a set ... want spanners that don't slip .

Yeah Pinaki ji I will do the same today...... thanks for the tips. Motul chain spray came as a compliment from Honda.... SAE90 mak I purchased... I am stuck as I am unable to find kerosene.... In Nagpur u get the same only against ration card... and I belong to Mumbai ... Dont wana purchase in black... Main hun Anaa

Madhav I fail to understand what is wrong with stock handlebars? Twister is NOT designed for racing handlebar types.. Twister is a commuter bike which is supposed to be for light use... Stock handle bars are excellent on twister.. I advice you against fiddling... Not only it will void your warranty It might compromise your safety as well... I own a cbr250r as well despite advice from numerous friends I have not replaced the stoclk handle bar even on my cbr250

chain looses its life due to dirt, dryness & normal wear & tear....SAE90 oil is good enough though it requires more frequent lubrication as compared to spray.
sachin I have double checked the oil drain bolt using ring spanner... that ASS at the service center did not change the washer despite my repeated request and also bent my engine gaurd... to 45deg to drain the oil... As usual I wrote to the Honda CEO with photograph attached.. and asked him is this how even his cbr1000rr is serviced? (Remeber Honda CEO visited Japan earthquake hit areas on his personel cb1000RR read that in paper TOI) Whapp.. the Tajshree Hond owner came home drove my vechile to ASC replaced engine gaurd and returned the bike back.. One thing I am sure by the time I am transfred from Nagpur Tajshree Honda will bag the best ASC award from Honda... Believe me or not now for every bike that comes to Tajshree for oil change if the drainbolt has engine gaurd beneath it .. then engine gaurd is not bent but removed .. Lessons learnt hardway are not forgot... I will ensure either he is the best ASC or he closes down.. I have told the owner that I am coming for second service on 14th Oct and that I will sign the coupon only after all 14 things mentioned on them are done in front of me .. He will be regretting for selling me two honda bikes

Yea , same thing .. you need a ration-card in Calcutta too .. but we also do get decontrolled kerosene (diffrent tint) at market prices . Anyway you could borrow your neighbor's card or use Diesel instead just as well .

Be easy on the new ring-spanner too, over-tightening this bolt is one easy way to crack the case at that hole . New washer will also have to be crushed-in same way as the new spark-plug washer thingy ; on first use. Ask the ASC to use their torque-wrench for this .

I was adviced by one of my friend to put the bike on central stand and first gear to clean and lubricate chain.. However I am against the idea as this is not safe and there are chances of a handinjury looming large I feel the best way is to rotate the wheel by hand when toothbrush rests on the chain....Do you guys agree?

yes agree, its better to be safe then feel sorry because your fingers can get cut.

personally i have this habit of trying to find new ways of doing things easily...recently this new idea came to mind of getting your chain cleaned without spending anything and more importantly without getting your hand dirty.
so here it goes.your old engine oil is still a good lubricant.one bottle of old engine oil is enough for over 4 months of chain lubrication.but to pour oil on to the chain you need special bottle so that your hand do not get dirty & not a single drop of oil is wasted.I have found an empty "EASY-OFF BANK" floor cleaner bottle best for putting oil on to the chain.it has a large nose and you are in complete control of amount of oil and direction of oil that flows out of this bottle.while putting oil,you will need to turn you rear wheel with one hand and pour oil on chain sprocket area where chain glides over the sprocket. Its possible to clean the chain by pouring lots and lots of old engine oil and while keep turning the wheel....engine oil being thin will mix with dirt and you will see black dirty oil flowing down from side stand. This way you can wash away at least 50% of dirt and 100% lubrication of chain..and once you ride the bike the remaining excess oil will flow down doing the work of self cleaning.big disadvantage of this method is that your bikes underside portion will get dirty due to this blackish dirty oil flowing down.secondly the old engine oil lasts around 150 km only and you will have to lubricate it frequently.try this if you are lazy Duck like me and don't want to spend on chain lubrication.
