  • Re: Yamaha FZ-16/ FZ-S

My brother got a pulsar 180 sometime back. As he is new to riding, I rode the bike for about 20km from the showroom. I found the accelerator to be much more free than my FZ throttle. The FZ throttle doesnt stick or anything but is just way tighter to turn and it has been that way since it was new. If its not the cable lube, what else could be the problem? Same with the clutch.

I am planning on upgrading the headlamp on my bike. I have looked into HIDs and projectors, The chinese ones seem to be affordable, but I am not sure of their reliability, The philips and osram ones are costing above 10k.

So I am thinking of going for higher wattage (55w nightbreakers) halogens. But I donno if I should put 55w bulbs in both high beam and low beam sockets. Will the battery take the combined 110w load when I use my pass switch? Also what is the color of the light in nightbreakers (I wanted white light)?

When the fuel comes in contact with ambient temperature, it re-ignites causing the popping sound. You must be witnessing the popping sound when you shut off the throttle am i correct?

Yes you can get the cat con installed from a damaged exhaust. All they will do is saw off your existing exhaust and then weld the cat con piece in between. Make sure to check for leaks once the welding is complete or else you will start losing performance and power. With the cat - con being installed you will immediately notice increase in the mid range and the top end dropping drastically on your bike.

      Cheers,
      Thanks..

Yes yes yes...bike misfires only when i shut the thruttle.I have no idea about Air Induction system. Will try to learn about it and ask service center to check for it.
      Thanks brother...

The Air Induction System is a unit integrated by yamaha to reduce pollution along with the catalytic converter. While Catalytic converter takes care of the gases, the AIS burns of residual unburnt fuel to further reduce the pollution. With the cat-con being non-existent in your bike, you will witness the popping sound which will be present on any FZ's or Fazer's who have gone ahead with free flow exhaust. In order to reduce the popping sound for those who only want performance but don't care about the environment, just disconnect the AIS which is under the right hand side of the tank. I remember posting in detail about all this on this very thread but seems to me the newer bunch of owners are not keen on going through the older posts. It is important for any newbie not to ignore such wealth of data being already shared less everyone is interested in just re-posting the same query over and over again.

P.S.: This is not a rant but a humble request to all my fellow newbie riders.. believe me.. you all will be far more informed by the time you are done reading through this thread.

        Cheers,

it ain't a problem as such.. Still.. Have to change it during next service..

What sensor cable are you talking about? The brake light illuminates with a brake switch which just on the left side of front brake lever. Pull it out and you will see a golden color thing. If that is broken, you need to change that. Costs about Rs. 80 bucks here in Mumbai, labour extra.

                Cheerz!!
The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

Headlight can be replaced, Head cannot be. Wear a helmet.

I am also talking about the same thing..
                  sensor.. switch..
I had replaced it many months back when i had a fall.. Svc charged me 140₹ then including labour..

Edit: checked it.. Seems to be fine.. Nothing broken.. Anyways, it doesn't cost much.. Will get it replaced..

I do not have a solution, but would like to share my experience on that!

Few months ago, when I got my new FZS, my friend who owns a FAZER also had the same opinion. At that time my bike was just 200KM old whereas he had enjoyed more than 7000KM with his green beauty. And yes, even I felt the same way too.

Further, I had an impression that, this smoothness is due to the fact that my bike is 2012 version and it has Twin-Throttle cables. (Genius! )

However, now my bike has crossed 3000KM and the throttle feels bit stiffer than it used to be when it was new.

I believe, some Gurus in this forum will come up with some technical explanation for this!

I called up Motul service manager in Pune and he said we need 2.5 ltrs of oil for FZ. I'm kind of shocked as we can't pour more than a ltr..
                      Is my understanding correct ???

Your understanding is correct, FZ requires 1ltr of oil.

Even my FZ is the 2012 model. I got it last year in October. Its not so noticeable on streets, but on long tours you can really feel the strain. I thought thats how it must normally be until I compared it to the pulsar throttle.

Stop comparing fz to other bikes..
Every bike has its own characteristics.. When you ride any bike for only a few days, you get used to it.. Be the parts soft or hard.. So stop crying over this and enjoy the machine..

SHELL mineral grade was the engine oil. And your understanding is correct if you understood that oil capacity for FZ is 1 ltr.

Regarding the English, I am still pondering whether this bill qualifies for the Hilarious thread?! LOL
