    how much does the filter cost?
    while changing from mineral oil to SS,do we have just drain the complete oil and add the new oil?
    what about oil filter changing when upgrading from mineral to SS?
    Our bikes can go from 0 - Stupid in less than "I wonder if this will be a good idea"

      Oil filter costs rs. 36. Its not necessary to change oil filter when you shift to new ss or fs oil..

        actually it is recommended to change oil filter whenevr you change grades of oil... the reason being there is a lot of oil soaked into the oil filter... and after sometime the two grades specially mineral and semi synth or FS will mix together and might react in an unwanted manner.....

          oil filter,air filter were replaced ,new spark plug,carb cleaning was also done,but its just shocking for me due to motul 300v FS i have lost engine smoothness,noisy gear shift and engine becoming too hot.was expecting other way round.really worried man.

            there is no reaction with ss fs or mineral oil between different grades.. But yes, the old oil dilutes new oil.
            The cost is 36 rs. I change oil filter everytime i change oil.. But wont suggest it to everyone. Its not necessary.
            Some ppl drain mineral oils after 1500 kms though they can extend them to 3000 kms. Its an equation between comfort, necessity and money.. If you have the money go for it. If not, go for whats necessary.

              how many kms after the FS switch?? and normally engine overheats when i think the air fuel mixture is lean.... if you say that the carb was cleaned than may be the mechanic has changed the air fuel ratio.... get your carb retuned..... btw how many kms on the bike total??

                dear kinshuk, it appears he has overfilled the oil.. He is having overflow. The oil is not circulating due to very high volumes.. Carb setting may also be the culprit. But first lets resolve the overflow issue..

                  its highly unlikely that the oil will overflow as the bike needs 1 liter only.... secondly as he is saying that the oil is overflowing from the oil cap i am assuming here he means the oil dip stick.... what i would suggest to him is that open the oil cap and tighten it again.... since he is experiencing harsh engine and notchy gear shifts the possibility of oil level not upto mark can be there..... the oil might have been lower than needed because of the leakage from the oil dipstick.....

                  @hellrider: before you take your ride out next time for a spin do check the oil level after proper warming the engine. the proper procedure to check the engine oil level is mentioned in the user manual pls go through it.... if the engine oil is less than the minimum mark on the dipstick you ENGINE CAN SEIZE and that would mean opening the whole engine block and bye bye refinement of Yamaha.

                    Hi kinshuk,muztariq,

                    I have clocked around 30k on my bike,manual says 1.2 ltr oil, but motul FS comes in 1 ltr bottle. ,that means its not over filled.yes kinsuk ur right yes its overflowing from dip stick.carb was cleaned fuel and air screw were not touched at all.
                    will take a bike for spin today morning and get every thing rechecked,and update you,thanks guys.

                      the 120/80/17 profile tire increases the ride height in the rear hence, changing the stock central 50:50 weight distribution more to front thus, affecting the handling and braking of the bike. This is not much noticeable at low speeds however, is dangerous at high speeds. To avoid this one should try and match the profile of the tire closest to the stock configuration. If going for the harder compound then i would recommend the Kings/Dunlop Tuff grip/Duro brand..

                        ^^^ additionally, it affects your final gearing ratios, suspension pre load, dampening & compression. It even affects the load that it puts your engine and can alter the power band. No offense to anyone out here; something my biking guru always emphasized 'whenever you ride your bike is always talking to you, but are you listening?'. The point I am trying to make is this; 'you make any change to your bike, no matter how small it may seem, it will change something'. If you claim there is no difference (or insignificant difference) after the change, then maybe you are not listening to your bike.

                          FZ Handle bar for Honda hornet

                          Hey guys...

                          Its been a long time since i posted anything in here... Ive sold my FZ-s ages ago and however i require some information about the FZ16's Handlebar.

                          The idea is, i want to install the Fz wide handlebar on my 98 Honda Hornet... and we do have a local Yamaha agent here in Colombo and i was wondering if and when i purchase the FZ handlebar (shouldnt cost much), does the handle bar come drilled with the tiny hole for the accelerator assembly?

                          The reason im asking is, i wanna know if it comes drilled or not, if not i will have to find my clamp and drill...
                          If it does come drilled they its a plug n play sorta thing making it easier for me.

                            Yes it comes with holes for switch assemblies, but most probably won't match Hornets, I believe (because I had to drill hole when ever retro-fitting one brand handle on other, though all come holed for the spec model). Easy 5 min job.

                                Size and location varies with models. I've installed Pulsar, RD350 and FZ handles on Honda Unicorn, every time I had to drill hole to match the switch location. Drilling a hole, not big deal
