Sorry I didn't find any smell during idling.
    You mean:
    1) we need to bend our nose towards the exhaust to find the smell - then I haven't checked it.

    2) Whenever the bike idles you can find the smell - then I can guarantee there's no smell during idling or may be the strength of the smell is not high that someone notices it.

I haven't find any noticeable smell from any part of the bike till date and as you said the smell started coming from last week only, I suggest you to take the bike to ASC for a check-up. There is a rubber sheet placed just above the engine, please check whether it is correctly placed, it may be sometimes touching the heated engine parts.

Yeah... I can smell it without getting close to the front... seems like something is wrong .... scared of ASC guys , those guys just guess things and doesnt give any good results.

As I said before there's a rubber sheet above the engine. Pls check yourself whether it is touching the engine. Attaching a pic where that rubber sheet is placed. May be I am wrong, but just give it a try

I agree with Aargee, a slight smell does come when the bike is new, haven't found any problems with it. However, don't worry about idling mate, you don't need to idle for 2-3 mins before take off, just ride slow till the engine temp reaches 3 bars, a 30-60 sec warm up is most often than not enough as modern bikes are built with a computing unit that does the needed adjustments while on the go. Just don't stress the cold engine that's all.

My bike is 4 days and almost 300 km old i never got that smell for first 2 days but in last 2 days of rain may be the dirt on hetaed engine and exahust is causing the burning smell im not sure..

I noticed the similar smell from your bike at BPCL, Chittorgarh; but very very minor though & lasted for a second.

              Try this...
              1. Start the engine; idle it until 1-2 bars come up
              2. Then gradually increase the throttle & try to steady the RPM at 4K, 5K, 6K, 7K, 8K, 9K
              3. Then give a random increase in throttle all way near redline
              4. Continue step 2 & 3 for nearly a minute
              5. Stop the engine
and you WILL be able to smell that pungent/burning smell

We need to follow the above steps to notice the burning smell? Then I haven't done this procedure in my life time. How did you noticed the smell in my bike then
May be the above procedure may cause a burning smell not in CBR especially almost all vehicles, even a BMW may cause the smell.
My point is when I start my bike normally I couldn't find any noticeable smell so far during idling or running.

                  • Guys,

I got my first servicing done at BU Bhandari honda at camp yesterday! I had booked an appointment a week in advance which was of no use as people had started queuing up since 8. i reached around 9 15 am and was given number 30 in waiting. i met the service manager and firmly lodged a protest. He agreed to get in done asap. I wanted to speak to the cbr trained mechanic who will be servicing my bike. To my surprise service manager said he is not in today!!! This other guy will be servicing my bike i started getting doubts that my bike will gonna land up with post service issues. Still left the bike with him with clear instructions to handle it with care n no unwanted scratches! After 2 hours around 12pm something unbelievable happened. I got a call from their workshop that my bike is ready!! i was super surprised. I went back and paid the bill amount. Completed all the formalities and my bike was ready to go. Called the mechanic and asked him did he change the oil filter? To my horror he responded "No" i asked him why? mechanic: Next service mein daalte na.. i was shocked!!! I immediately went to the manager and bought this to his attention. Called up the showroom manager as well and told him how irresponsible is this? How can i trust whether my bike has been serviced!! they are not handing it by just washing it. Also they charge me for the faulty indicator bulb!! I had to buy the oil filter from their spares shop for additional 284 INR and give it to the mechanic.

All in all very pathetic and irresponsible of these guys to treat our bikes like this. Very disappointed with honda ASC!!!

Most of the ASC's are like this bro. Not only the case of Honda. One of the Yamaha ASC in Kerala had serviced a new Fazer(old model) and forgot to fill new engine oil where they drained the old engine oil and gave it to the customer. Customer rode the bike for few kms and found some roughness and some burnt smell from the engine side. when checked he found the oil dipstick cap is missing.. This was told by my friend who where in the SVC at that time. Look how ignorant are these idiots.
I suggest you to take to another ASC by talking to other cbr owners from your place and handle these guys smoothly. Don't rush them you will get little help from that

smell is normal for a new bike.. my bike used to smell as well.

it will fade away gradually once you are past 500 km mark..
dont worry.. if you dont like it.. dont idle the bike for more.

If you feel it while freewheel riding, the mech should feel it manually rotating it. If you cant feel it while on the lift then its probably because of load and we'd have to move on to suspensions etc.

Need one thing clear. Just want to make sure its not the 'ffrrrrr' that comes when tyres are new right? Because it happens in the same speed zone you mention.

Anyway hoping for a quick resolution.

figured out the issue dude. its the front sprocket..

will get it cleaned and lubed soon..

checked the gaps.. all good.. wheel spin is fine...

                          thanks for the info dude.

Thrilled to hear that the Yamuna Expressway is complete and ridable. Excellent news, will be doing it on my way from Bangalore to Delhi. Just one question, are there many obstructions in terms of tractors and bikes riding opposite direction etc?

well the expressway is well barricaded and is an elevated corridor.. so you would not be seeing much crowd on it .... leave alone tractors... between its not officially opened... during my ride there wer hardly 5-6 cars and patrol vehicles.

You had asked me for a Honda ASC whom I could recommend to a fellow CBR owner and I had suggested Rohan Honda at Pimpri. You know my antecedents and so would also know that I would not recommend this ASC to any CBR owner without plausible, experiential grounds on which to do so. So, why blame Honda per se? Not all ASCs are good but then, neither are all bad. I have given my bike to Rohan in Pune and Dharti in Rajkot. Both were pretty good at their job.

I am sanguine that your experience at Rohan would have been definitely better than that at B U Bhandari.

                              Better luck next time

My bike is 1 year old now. I just noticed while coming back from office (again while idling the bike for 2 mins) that smoke is coming out from the radiator.

Looks like radiator is blocked with some mud from the rain.
