But yes, if we are talking of high-speed falls then maybe a butterfly guard should help better? It will definitely protect a llimb better than a frame slider - what are your thoughts?.

agreed... just that we dont have such options in india.. making this country more motorcycle friendly is a far fetched dream..Originally posted by bbsrailfan View PostBTW I had a fall at a similar 15-20kph without any sliders - and still not even one scratch on the fairing.

While shifting down more than one gear at a time, you should always release the clutch between every gear before trying to shift down again. Example:- 4th - hold clutch and shift down to 3rd - release clutch - hold clutch and shift down to 2nd + release clutch - hold clutch and shift down to first.. the sound you heard I'm sure was because your Rpm of the engine was too low for that particular gear at that speed. Accelerating a little bit while shifting down will ensure smooth down shifts without damaging your gearbox.. ( do the exact opposite of what you do while up shifting where you reduce the accelerator while while shifting up)Originally posted by kpvision View PostDear gentlemen on tigers,
Last couple of rides, following happened 2-3 times.
When I downshift, I hear tak-tak-tak-tak clunk noise from gearbox. It was mainly while shifting to first from say third or fourth. After hearing the clunk, the shift didn't happen and very next try it works and everything is fine. Slow speed shifts to first was not an issue.
I never experienced this with senior and before. May be a Honda signature?. Does it happen to you?. Thanks.
Yours
You might find it a little difficult in the beginning for fast shift downs but trust me you'll get used to it.
P.S. the increasing of acceleration while down shifting is very minute and is useful while shifting down at high revs in order to rev it up further.Last edited by adityajohanan; 03-18-2013, 03:08 PM.

Gentlemen,
I acquired new gearshift socks and tankpad. Thinking that I shall install it at home etc, was in a good mood.
Then this happened
It was peak Bangalore traffic at inner ring road Koramangala and I stopped at Ejipura signal, everyone was waiting. There was a small gap between a car and my bike on right side and there was a small slot in front of me.
A guy on a new nice CBR150 bike was behind me and suddenly saw the rat hole and went for it. His foot peg almost ripped my silencer cover.
Damage : nick on the silencer and inner joint is visible as cover was tried to force out.
After the incident, he starting staring at me for a second instead of saying sorry (best attitude for our forest land -- be aggressive when mistake is made).
Immediately, he showed his cowardly skills and ran away risking life. I noted down the number. I could write about it on the web and immortalize that, an ego search on web could show a citation on the web!.
Now, have to see if I can push the cover a bit to do some damage control!.

The road manners in Bangalore is getting worse everyday. Today while i was going to office I was waiting for the signal at Doddanakundi(total mall) signal. A middle aged guy in a motorcycle without a helmet was behind me and started honking asking me to move even though it was red. I pointed toward the signal and dint move causing a rain of abuses from him(i guess from the way he said something in Kannada).
Anyway the point is that, people are always trying to race, race to the signal, race for the starting line in the signal, race from the signal and all the while honking like a mad man.
Bro i guess you should track him down and make him pay for your damages. I dunno legally if that is possible.

For CBR250R in our land though, I would pay for the fairing and other minor damage other than installing a slider.
Back after a spirited ride on NICE road – with that junior tiger break–in has happened
You are probably right with the bike balancing and frame slider being connected directly to the bike's frame.
But what i think is that even a low speed crash can throw the balance away if yoy are unfortunate.
I just wanted to take a precaution.

I did PM him. waiting for his reply.
Thanks bro.

The mirrors and the exhaust shield took the impact and the exhaust shield was badly scratched - that sets me thinking - do we need frame sliders at all? most of the fairing doesn't come into contact with the ground after minor falls - the only situation where I can foresee a broken fairing is during a collision and I'm sure a frame slider can't offer ANY protection during a collision. Not sure what will be the impact during a high-speed sliding fall though.
Initially I was hell-bent on buying myself a set of frame sliders but now I don't see any use for them.
I agree to your point. But what if the bike falls on the left side where there is no exhaust to take the impact on. I guess that would screw the indicators and the fairings.

Not really Deepesh...I did check on that aspect after my crash and noticed that the fairing still remains safe even if the bike falls to the left.Originally posted by Deepeshdanieljoy View PostI agree to your point. Feeling sad for your baby...can feel how much it hurts to see a scar on a new bike. Initially I used to face such idiots everyday on the viveknagar-ASC road. They would keep honking even if the signal is red, sometimes even bumping into you from the rear. Gradually I discovered an alternate route with much less traffic and have been at peace ever since.Originally posted by kpvision View PostDamage : nick on the silencer and inner joint is visible as cover was tried to force out.

CF Vinyl looks great on the visor. I had covered up my exhaust shield with CF Vinyl but it barely lasted a month, with the numerous abuses that the exhaust shield faced (falls, other bikes brushing by, careless people in the parking lot..). Planning to replace it as it's completely worn out by now.Originally posted by theironhorse99 View PostSome more DIYBiking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. How about abrasion resistance - does it withstand bruises and scratches well? How much did you shell out (price per sqft)? Hope I can get the same quality at 3M carcare...Originally posted by theironhorse99 View Postthe vinyl i have put on my exhaust is atleast 7 months old.. its 3M carbon fiber .. thick and quite resistant to heat.. never gave any issues...

dosent get scratched easily and this need a lot of heat even to get soft.. i had to heat it well with the hair dryer and wrapped a single peice over the exhaust guard even on the corners and moulds.. heat it.. it becomes like a cloth and pull it and wrap it.. and leave it.. once it cools down.. it will become hard.. ( as hard as a plastic ) basically takes the shape of the item.Originally posted by bbsrailfan View PostHow about abrasion resistance - does it withstand bruises and scratches well? 3M does not have this stuff anywhere it india. it took me a month to contact every 3M to figure out if they have specifically
CA1170 or CA 421.. no go.. however then 3M south india head mr anurag shukla rescued me.. he offered if a buy a sample role that it 20sft then he can get it shipped along with other stuff from japan.. and advance payment needs to be made and will take 1-2 months for water bourne shipping and delivery at doorstep...
i opted for it..
they shipped it home but took 45 days.. but trust me the way 3M packed it even such a small role of just 20 sft.. 4 feet x 5 feet.. i was like WOW.
they atleast spend 2-3k worth of wooden packing and then bubble wrap for a vinyl not more than 4k
200 Rs sft..
this dates back to 9th june when i was in talks with 3M regarding the same. .i still have all the email conversations..
Gajshri [[email protected]].. you can contact this person. she is from 3M bangalore and handles the Vinyl stuff.. check of 421 or 1170 is available now.
else PM me will forward you the number of Mr anurag shukla.. i am sure he can assist again ...Last edited by theironhorse99; 03-19-2013, 04:32 PM."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."
