Good to know, all is well. So you too fled leaving your bike near the burning car or what?
Actually no sound is coming from anywhere except at high RPM. And even the pickup is perfect. Bike reaches 130 kph easily. But vibrates real harsh after 5k rpm, when engine heats up. Mech said, changing shim would make it alright.

Nope, I just couldn't abandon her - and that's what gave me those scary moments. Most people had left their bikes on the road and had taken cover behind a vacated BMTC bus. For a full minute, I lost my thinking and was looking at the deserted road, the burning car and people shouting at me to get away from the car. Somehow I pulled my determination, spotted a a slot between the car and a parked bus, folded my mirrors and zipped through keeping as much distance from the car as I possibly could.

Sounds long, but it was over in less than 5 seconds. Traffic on the other side of the inferno had moved forward and and the road was empty, so i stopped at a safe distance - but there was hardly anything I could offer. The car occupants and bystanders were safe and had moved to a safe distance, the car was still burning and a fire tender could be heard, not very far away.

I don't really think your shims would need a replacement at this stage. Some harshness is normal at high revs. Take your bike to a silent location like an empty playground and ride it at lower gears without a helmet to see if the engine note is unusual or if you can hear any rattles from anywhere.

Damn, that sounds scary.... Had I been at your place, I wd have gone totally blank as well. But the best thing is, if your bike get damaged due to a car of a particular company, it should pay you. And so does your insurance. So a new bike was in the site for you.

I don't think it makes sense - unless you are talking of third-party insurance, which would be paid by the car owner's insurance. Why would a car manufacturer get involved? Did Volvo company pay anything to the victims of the unfortunate bus?

BTW, my dad owned an LML Vespa T5 prior to moving to the Splendor and I'd proudly say that our scooter (though given away to my chacha in 2001) still runs like a charm today. Reading your wasp thingy reminded me of our Vespa.

My mech says, ride it for another 1000 k. Rip it hard, then we will change the shim. And I came to know, Shims are not available readymade. They take measurements and make it. Takes at least 2days. Don't know, if he was bluffing.
Another thing is, it takes 1km to heat the engine to 3 bars. And it stays there for the next 50kms.
there are 68 sizes of shims available in total for replacement as per requirements. now most of the showroom/ASC will have common sizes available.
they dont have to make one but have to procure them if the required sizes are not in stock.

and yeah its winters man. sometimes takes time to heat up..

and as bbsrailfan said. it will stick to 3 bars. close to 20k and havent seen 4th bar yet.. dunno why honda made a display for 6 bars .. atleast one thing i praise them for is the cooling..

Just checked FE in city ride. I got ~35kmpl. Only 1st servicing done. ODO is 2000km+. Is it true for CBR that by the time we put some serious kms on ODO bike's FE will decrease. ?

not really heard of such an issue however aargee is not active these days on this thread. i am sure he have crossed 50k mark long back. probably he can input.
for me on 20,000 km from day 1 till date its been always 34kmpl +- 1kmpl leaving aside highways trips where i have seen as low as 28-29 ripping at 130-140 constant for hours and even 46 riding between 70-80..

Thanks mate. Some interesting knowledge aquired about the shim. Need to learn many things. And anything on the vibs? The bike is 14k old... Vibs too much after 5k rpm.

Sambit, you might want to try this:

Gear drive Counterbalancers do not change or go out of adjustment, but they must be set right when you assemble the engine. There will be a gear on the crankshaft and it will mesh with the gear on the balabcer's shaft. There are punch marks on both gears and they must align. Double check those marks. You will not believe how much it vibrates if they are a couple teeth off. I did that once, on purpose of course. (Yeah, right,... sure !) It made that bike a definite tooth rattler. Changed it back to the right setting... smooth as silk ! The gears can be outside the crankcase, under the clutch cover, or inside the crankcase. In other words, an easy goof to fix, or a very hard one. Word to the wise, double check your work ! A lot of Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki singles use this type of Counter Balancer.
Read full details here:
Dan's Motorcycle "Counter Balancers"

Hey guys covered 750km on my ceeber. Is it ok to go in for the first service?
Also at 5.5k rpm I'm getting some vibes, is there anything to be worried?

@sambit. Thanks for the tip. I got the pad for Rs 30.
@krish2778. It is easily available. Seems that due to its flimsy construction, such wear and tear is quite common among CBRs. The part number is 50661KYJ900, description: RUBBER, M STEP. Price is Rs 26.96 plus VAT = Rs 30.5. Quite easily available.

P.S. The ASC did not levy any labour charges. When I asked the mech for the bill, he waved me off with "Aap ko hum pehechantey hain, sir. Main bhi NCC cadet tha. Aap sey itney chhotey kaam ke liye kya paisey lena. Bike mast maintain kiya hai". Very sweet of him to say so, I must say.

Hi guys :-) proud owner of a 2012 model red/ silver abs . It had 10k kms on it when I bought it in September , now has 12 k :-) the bike doesn't seem to have any problems, and it's in for the third service.

For the past month I've been trying to get replacement black parts for the silver ones , but to no avail. Every single service centre in kochi says the parts are unavailable and that they won't be able to give a correct estimate of how long it will take after they order. It's been a month, so I've lost hope of getting them and asked the service centre to paint the parts+alloys+silver things near the foot pegs all black, quoted ₹ 4500.
