Enquired again just for fun whether the parts came, still getting the same reply

I fitted a 15T front sprocket on my bike on 24th. It had been sourced by a friend from the USA. The price was about USD 40.

I am writing about the installation, first 10 second impression and a 240 km ride report.

Installation:
Straight replacement. Only issue was, the curved metal plate attached to the cover had to be removed to make room for the marginally increased circumference of the new one. Apparently, this plate prevents the scouring of the crank case by the whip lash of a loose chain.Minor chain adjustment needed for the same reason. No hassles.

10 second impression:
In earlier posts, I had, at times, commented on the snatching and jerking of the engine. IMO, this was a function of the gearing. With the stock sprocket, the bike was a bit like a cranky old man.
On the new sprocket, 1st was just perfect. Neither high nor low. Just right there on the sweet spot. Going thru the gears, the bike seemed to have matured beautifully. No ill tempered snarling. The torque just rolled on so smoothly, the engine was so calm that at the end of the first 10 second, I could not but help thinking that the bike must have been designed with a 15T as stock but sold with the 14T to cater to the " Dhoom" mind set.

240 km ride:
I rode from Rajkot to Ahmedabad enroute Pune on leave. 80 kph was @ 5000 rpm ( stock 5600) and 90 @ 5600 (stock 6200), a straight gain of 600 rpm averaged. The loss of outright acceleration was palpable but never for overtaking. Downshifting to 5th gave the added punch just as earlier but in a much more controlled manner. The bike seemed to have come into her true element in 6th and 90 kph.

A longer term report will follow. Prima facie, the 15T is the right sprocket for me.

Side by side, old and new

The metal plate removed

The new one fitted

Sir, was that on 6th gear?

Sirjee, any negative impact as a result of removal of the metal plate?

Also, those gearing figures seem a bit unusual. Stock gearing yeilds 80kph @5000rpm and 100kph @ 6200 rpm in 6th gear. Are those values stated by you recorded in 5th gear?

The speedo will still show same speed and same rpm on the console as its synced with 14t. Only way to get correct speed is gps based system on the given rpm. Also adding 7% optimistic speedo.

So it should be 5700 rpm for 100 kmph but meter will still show at 6200 only when actual speed might be 107-109.

Shiv_beam. Yes, that was in 6th bbsrailfan. I know. The figures are misleading cause I felt that I was doing definitely more than 80 when the speedo said 80. theironhorse. I think you are right here. The speedo and odo is served by a finger-like probe in the crank case. This probe must be taking readings from one of the shafts - main, idler or counter. And the electronics must be calibrated for the 14T. I shall take some GPS readings later and update this issue.

Hi guys ! I have been going through this thread from quite sometime but never posted on xbhp. I live in Mumbai and recently got my CBR 250r Abs(Red Silver from the last lot) on 19th November 2013 from Pilot Honda Bhandup with temporary registration. I didn't go for new colours (2013) as I liked the previous colours. It took the dealer more 15days to give rto number due to glitches in their system. So finally after shouting and arguing with them got the number on 5th December.Next day I went for a long ride to Goa (Mumbai-Pune-Kolhapur-Goa-Kolhapur-Pune-Mumbai ;2days riding 1day rest total 1120km trip). It was fun riding the ceeber. It is quote comfortable for long rides and performed extremely well on the straights as well as in the Ghats. Abs works flawlessly and I feel I have done a great choice opting for the abs version.I did a solo ride while returning from Goa and it was awesome.Completed the run in as per the manual. After returning gave the bike for first service and its working smooth enough. Engine has opened up quite a bit. After the service went to Shirdi (Mumbai-Shirdi-Mumbai ; total 511kms trip) with my friends and yet again the CBR impressed me with its cruising abilities, braking, powerful headlights.Crossed the 2k kms on the odometer while returning from Shirdi. I just wish the bike had two tripmeters, a better fit of plastics, side stand interlock and a main stand (please forgive me for this) or a better side stand because my little cousin sister tried to sit on the bike and it tipped to the other side, fortunately there was a TVS wego parked and it saved both the bike and by sisters leg from crushing. This can happen anywhere and I am always worried about this. Anyways I am loving each and every km on it. Just a few questions. The engine makes some weird noise sometimes while accelerating from 4k rpm in 3rd and above gears(knocking).Only heard if I careful hear it. When ascending also if I try to give it a little gas and rpm is at 4-5k it makes that sound. I had informed it to the svc during first service and they said they have rectified it. But recently during shirdi ride I cud hear it but only twice. Is it normal with every CBR? Attaching few photos Click image for larger version

the knocking sound you are talking about is because of the shims. Ask the SVC to change the shims and the problem should be rectified.

You are very lucky as you got the old color scheme at this time. I bought my CBR 6 months back and that time a few black and tri color was available, no red-silver. All showroom here at Kolkata having new 2013 models. Anyways congo on your bike. Good choice.

Just one query. How did you get a black colored exhaust cover while it should silver on this model. Did you painted or replaced this with stock one ?

Thanks. In Mumbai I had asked two three dealers and sub dealers and old colours were available when I booked the bike. And regarding the black coloured exhaust cover the showroom guy was kind enough to replace it before delivering the bike as he only told me that silver one gets scratched easily and looks awful later as many owners had complaint them about it. If the speedo is sensing the speed from the wheels like in ABS version, I don't think changing sprocket would have any effect on the speedo reading. So is engine speed, nothing to do with the sprockets, rpm indicator will show the actual engine speed no matter what sprocket is on.

If i have understood correctly, the wheel sensor is purely for ABS calibration purposes. There is a different sensor near the crankcase for the actual measurement. See the image below, part#7

You have understood correctly, mate. That is the speed sensor for speedo purpose. I disconnected the above sensor and went for a spin, the ABS is working fine, but speedo was showing 0kmph. I stand corrected now. BTW, its a hall effect sensor.
