Sorry dude, guess I offended you. You said the bike lugs at the rpms suggested by the manual, right?? I assumed that you must have tried it with your bike. Actually I had issue with low rpm power delivery and it was sorted out by carb tuning. The svc mechanic told me that poor throttle response is caused bu carb. So I suggested, you get your bike checked.
No offence taken bro. All's well and dont apologize. Anyways, so though the bike doesn't lug at the rpm-gear combination but you can't accelerate rapidly. And yes, the carb setting should be correct...luckily my stock setting was good

Didn't buy any though. Confused about what to go for. at 2400kms if I get 2ltrs of 5100 15w50.. about 800ml will be wasted from the 2nd bottle. But If get 7100 20w50 I can use 1200ml, & the rest 800ml will be used at 2nd service oil change. But again as people say 7100 is too early until 5000+kms. & I'm just at 2400kms.
BTW, Motul India on FB says they plan to release 1.2ltr package for NS by April 2013. Duke also drinks 1.2ltrs guys ? Also do we also change the Oil filter along with engine oil ? Any specific one ?
practically your logic about using 7100 is correct and will save some hard earned money at the end. so if you plan to go for 7100 by second service which as service book is between 4500 - 5000 km, and you plan to change the oil now i suggest you go for Motul 3000 15W50 (Mineral) till second service. I have used this oil and believe it is worth and will also be easy on your pocket.

good to hear Motul plans to release 1.2 liter versions of their oil range.

        Cool....
Mine setting were also good in the starting but they kept going bad to worse. The SVC mechanic re-set it. Not up to the mark though.

        Anyways,

I had already reported an issue with the coolant vanishing from my bike. No apparent leakage. Last 3 times the leakage was triggered by high-speed ripping on highways. So took my NS on highway this weekend for a short test ride. Rode it at 100+ for some time. Touched 120+. And there is no leakage still. Good. But the coolant is still disappearing steadily. Almost 1/3rd is gone in one week. No visible leakage or no issue with overflow pipe for sure. Don't know whats the issue. Will wait till next weekend and then go to SVC.

One more thing. This time at 100+ speeds my NS was swaying too much. It was damn scary. I have had rode it on those speeds before on worse road and it was quite stable. I am not really sure about cross wind factor though. I just hope its the cross wind and not some mechanical issue.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference...

I see, thanks for your advice. Motul 3000 is the same as motul 3100 gold ? sayank10 suggested that oil few pages back. and Yes it is cheap, just 310 Rs per ltr. also is the Oil Filter supposed to be changed ?

The one i used was 3000 15W50. The Motul India website is not up-to-date hence many products, grades are not listed. 3100 gold is also good but i think it is the 20W50 grade so you can go for it and now since the temperatures are not too cold you can go for this grade.

Yes do change the filter its only 74 bucks and also get the o-ring for the filter which will take up the cost to 80 bucks.

When i came back i saw that the level had gone down so had to pour in another 200 ml to get to the correct level. why does this happen?
When you have just filled the oil, it's all settled down at the floor of the engine and you can see the correct level. But as you mentioned, you let the engine idle for a while. When you did that, the oil began lubricating or 'working up' all the moving parts. When you shut it off, excess oil spluttered on the interiors simply returns back to the floor of the engine but a thin layer of the oil is still left on them. That's the reason for the lower oil level. If the oil level is checked after a long session of riding, you'd find no oil at all! If you had kept the bike on center stand on a horizontal surface for about 20-30 min, you would have found almost the same oil level as before. You didn't have to pour in the extra 200 ml.

I did keep the bike on center stand. Like i said i did give a gap between idling and checking the oil level which in fact was above 30 minutes.

But any ways there has been no change in the oil level till now i have ridden for some 20 kms today. Not much but thats the total ride to go to my office and then back home.

                • lol wow, somebody at traffic light pointed something out about my front tire, it's reversed. He was checking out the bike, he noticed the arrow on the sides that indicates the right direction for the tire is pointing backwards. Just see the pic you'll understand. Then I asked the guy if that makes any sort of difference, he said you're gonna lose the grip due to this. Well.. I recently had a fall on gravel cause front tire completely bailed on me.. now I know what was responsible for that incident ! ha jk.. Wat you guys have to say about this anyway ?

                  @sunilyo
thanks for the info, Changing engine oil & it's filter in a day or two.
btw, I bought Motul Chain cleaner, 450 bucks. It's such a good thing to use. Today just sprayed & wiped the chain with a piece of towel. Brilliant result. also the center stand made it so much easier now.

It's pretty strange, coz I usually find the oil to have trickled down to the normal level after a while of riding. Don't worry, you have nothing to worry about if you're sure the oil isn't leaking from anywhere

                              • My tiny observation after the oil change to 5100 15W50 mixed with 3000 15W50.

                                a. immediate result - engine is much more smoother than earlier. Vibrations have reduced a lot.
                                b. i feel that the pickup has also improved
                                c. dont feel any change in gear shift smoothness. Same as earlier.
