last friday i got my bikes delivery, showroom guy said that there is 1 litre petrol in the bike, he said go and refill it now just to be safe.
i just put 100rs petrol and reached home. later i filled 500rs more fuel. in 2 days i filled 200rs fuel and again 100rs.
so total of 900rs spent on petrol which sums up to 12 litres of petrol
delivery time odo reading was 10km, now its 350kms.
my question is that when ever am riding now, the fuel bar is empty and after 2 mins of riding it comes to 2 bars or 1 bar.
am following run in period and not taking it above 4k rpm in each gear.
the fuel knob is kept ON, if the petrol from main fuel tank is over, will the bikes engine go off ? or will it run in reserve ? or i have to turn the knob to reserve ?
i feel the fuel knob is faulty, i want to know how many more kms i can ride without refilling more fuel ?
    kindly help
Digital fuel indicator ... its a crap
don't even look @ to it.
    its only for fancy

Always ride "on" position of petrol tap
if you feel some kind of missing, then change to "reserve"
bike will not stall; after you have used to it.
I haven't used more than 30 KMs in reserve. So I couldn't say about actual reserve capacity.

I always hit "trip 2" on every reserve. thus I can calculate fuel mileage/ every filling

Yesterday I have got new handlebar (3 pieces) under warranty.
handle bar's paint was started peeling from the second day of ownership
after a long argument they agreed to replace in spite of painting

I find the p200NS digital fuel indicator good enough. In my passion its a little better. But i guess its just about as better as it can get.
I wish if I am the only rider in roads !!!!!
So I can red line my bike all the time

            ...
The fuel gauge sensor relies on measuring the voltage through a system of sending unit and float. The float is typically made of foam. In the sending unit, the fuel has to drop a certain distance in order for the float to drop.
Now,fuel is quite volatile. So,due to evaporation, some amount vapourises but is still in the tank. The float only registers a drop in liquid fuel and thus drops.
Depending on what position the float is in, it registers a different voltage level to the wire that connects to the fuel gauge.
This is also why you get erratic readings sometimes after filling up the tank. The float is submerged in the fuel.
That is also the reason, why, after some time in the sun,you get erratic readings for some time. Although in most modern meters,it's not the case.

When I had enquired about this unreliable gauge issue prior to purchasing the NS,the svc personnel had referred to the sensor as fuel gas sensor.and they told me that only the first batches of the bike had these problems and they were replacing them free of cost.

what you have been doing until now (rev match and downshift) is perfectly ok, so keep practicing and perfect it.

But if you say so, I'll continue to downshift in this manner & improve upon it. thanks, Just wondering in what cases does the wheel lock up ? Also is this exactly how the slipper clutch feels ?

I can't wait for the first look of the new Pulsars!!! Though I have a feeling it's not gonna be a faired motorcycle.
Also how is your bike running, all's good right ?

thanks for your replies about the fuel gauge, my bike is still running in mains with one bar left
i actually like downshifting and getting that click sound :P
i wanted a gear no indicator on the bike, i have to always keep a track of which gear am currently on.
people here change lanes anytime anywhere, cross the signals when its red. got saved many a times, got my rear tyre skid twice cause of sudden breaking.
breaks are damn powerful i must say, sometimes i just use the rear during red light, it gets from 60-0 in no time.
by the way, yesterday while washing the bike, i just noticed that the rear disc plate is bronze at the edges ?
and the front one is silver, is this normal ? :/
and my first service will come up soon, which oil should i change to ? am planning on motul for smoothness, please suggest which type.

But I just hope that the "smaller" pulsar doesn't look like the 200NS...man we deserve some exclusivity!
Yea bro, bike running fine...no probs, but one...vibes! There were almost no vibes earlier but now probably when the re-assembled the engine and other parts, the screws and bolts weren't tightened properly. Although not disturbing, but there's a constant vibe from a metal which irritates. Will get everything tightened next month since Iv got my exams coming up. No probs with performance.

                  • ^+1 to the exclusivity part. Jumping into uncharted waters headfirst and letting bajaj use us as guinea pigs for the first NSs on the road entitles us to atleast a couple of years of boasting credentials.

                    • I have rode around 8500 km till date my daily office commutes involves non stop potholes ride of 15km due to which the center bolt between the handle bars becomes loose every 15 days :banghead::banghead: now I have bought a 24 27 spannerto get tightenedmyself I don't know what all tools I am going to buy? The bike is not meant for off roading due to split handle bars.they should have copied the same type as that of D200

It's either something is touching some other parts or something is loose, or something's loose, fallen and vibrating.

I tried all that man, put my ears close to the sound's originating point, but still can't find the actual spot.
I am starting to suspect that it's not the console, but somewhere else near the handlebar :|

Are you using a keychain with metal/plastic/wood constituting a part of it?

if your revs are not matched correctly (i.e. higher rpm for that corresponding gear) and you release the clutch after the blip and downshift, the rear wheels locks up for a second of so. that's why you need to perfect the 'rev matching' (but of course sometimes we make mistakes), learn it thru 'feel and experience' and you will hardly lock up the rear wheel. And i do not know how exactly a slipper clutch works, but i read that the ninja 300 comes equipped with one.

AFAIK, conventional clutches in tandem with conventional downshifting induce massive engine braking ( in higher displacement bikes, though) which could lead to the rear tyre losing traction. But a slipper clutch partially disconnects from the clutch plates and thus, helps control the rear wheel from spinning away to glory. No idea how it exactly works though.
