I'd like to tell you that my *inaccurate* method of measuring mileage from full tank to reserve indicated a mileage of 55+. I tanked my bike upto around 19.1 ltrs and hit reserve after 912 kms. This consisted of city riding for the most part and shifting higher than 5k RPM most of the time although not redlining. I usually fill Rs.600 worth of petrol here at Bengaluru prices and hit reserve at 300+/-5 kms.

I'm not expecting any awards for this feat but just telling that this bike ain't so bad.

    @manas34
All the problems reported here are remote cases and if you buy the bike from a dealer whose stocks keep moving then you wouldn't face much of a problem.

But consider this: suzuki itself claims a city mileage of 47 kmpl.
Right now I am getting 40kmpl, so even 47 kmpl will be good for me, if I somehow get it. Actually I am having a feeling that the ratio of petrol to air is not good in my bike, the carbuerater needs retuning, though I retuened it from service center twice, but it somehow resets itself in just two days(can be felt by the sound the engine is making, its like a knocking sound)

Could you tell me the problems you faced in new 2012 version of gs150r and are they fixed now or still the same and really the mileage of new gsr dropped to 40?
I've already mentioned many problems, have a look on my earlier post in last two or three pages.......

One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post was, whenever I touch 90kmph speed, it smells like something has started burning in my bike when I park my bike after that, don't know what that might be, but for my next service, I'm gonna take a mechanic with me for a ride to make him clear that my bike is sounding more and giving a burning smell.

What all features have been changed in suzuki gs 150r 2012 model compared to earlier models?

      • An Update

One month+ old GS clocked 2400+ km so far. All is well, mostly

Last weekend I took her out for a long ride. Total roundtrip distance was a little less than 900 km.

It was a nice experience. Best bike in terms of comfort & stability. Even my pillion was happy. Absolutely happy with handling also. Handling was a cakewalk on all terrains - highways, ghat roads, city traffic....

The linear engine characteristic is a blessing on long highway rides. Top speed attained during this trip was 114 kmph on speedo. Could easily do 80-100 all day.

        Now to the not-so-happy part.
Head lamps - not at all useful in long night rides. waiting for my baby to clock a few thousand kms more to change it.

On the return trip I noticed a click sound when I shift from 2nd to 3rd gear and reverse also. 2nd to 3rd shift is was a bit tight also. All other gears were smooth. After coming back when I reported this to SVC, they said it is because of loose chain and they adjusted it. i'm not happy with the explanation, and I still feel, this sound persists at times. Any idea about this? what could be wrong?

        Everything else was perfect.

And now that many people are talking about mileage here. Till my first service I was riding at around 4.5-5k rpm and I was getting 50+ mileage. But during my last trip I was least bothered about mileage and I revved it hard But still it gave me 38-40 kmpl. And I'm absolutely happy about it. What else can I expect when I rev it hard above 7k rpm in all gears? even after keeping an average speed of 90 kmph on highways, and some slow speed section on ghat ways I got 38!! that is awesome I feel.

If people want mileage they should ride around 4.5-5k rpm in 6th gear, and then this bike will give you 50 kmpl if all other settings are proper. But for me, pleasure while riding is more important than mileage.

In short, Now I'm absolutely sure that I made the right choice by buying this beast

Ride safe (and watch-out for those idiots on road, whom don't know any traffic rules)

The burning smell might be from the front disc pads due to heavy breaking. Check it.

There were a few complaints about mileage in previous models too. I own a 2nd gen. one. I really dont know what to say about some of you claiming such nice looking mileage figures in city riding. Either my bike is faulty or you all are smoking some good stuff.

Kinda surprising that you'd say the drop in mileage is due to gear ratios.....I imagined fuel efficiency must have improved due to the closer gap between the 1st and 2nd gears in the new model.

As for the power delivery, the pull gets noticeably stronger from 6k upto around 8-9k, if you observe. The engine does its job well, only without any big noises and with just a mild to non-existent kick....and this, coupled with its stable and neutral handling, makes it feel like you're not going too fast, when you're actually doing something like 80 kmph. You'll be like "eh? am I even moving?" until you look at the speedo showing 80kmph.

Its more than upto the task of overtaking similar vehicles on our roads, its just deceptive and feels underpowered till you wring the throttle and watch the speedo show what the motor is actually doing. Its kind of sad that we dont get a sense of speed on this bike unless we're watching the speedo.

I had some difficulty adapting to this 'powerlessness' initially, having graduated from a 2t. For me, the engine's character wasnt truly visible and appreciable till i did some high speed, high rpm riding. Till then I was quite disappointed with my purchase.
Thanks for the post. After reading this, what you said about not feeling the speed came to mind. Today I thought I was doing some 60 - 70 until I saw the odo to see 104 . Need to get used to it I guess. I should visit the service center for the carb adjustment. Maybe I will switch to Motul and then see what happens. I usually shift at 4.5K RPM and ride mostly at 4.5 - 5K in the 6th gear. Try it and let me know if there is any mileage difference for you. Other than that, this is a very very very good bike. On the highways its so smooth and comfortable!

So, what makes you say this?

You sure that it grips well in sand??? Even the impulse's tires skid on sand.
It's faaar more better than the stock one when it comes to sand......and its a street tyre not an offroader so can't compare it to the impulse

I'm sure you did adequate research about the tyres. Can you tell us the prices of tyres from different brands?

Im not saying its bad either....just that I dont remember to have ever got got above 50 kmpl in the city, despite restrained riding. So, to me, that makes the claims of 55-60 seem exaggerated.

600 bucks at rs. 73.5 per litre gets you about 8.13 litres. At 50 kmpl, the bike should run atleast 400 kms before reserve. But considering your statement that it runs 300 kms till reserve (assuming you are calculating this from the time it hits reserve), your mileage is about 37 kmpl.

So, either you or me have got our calculations wrong when you say you get 50+ in the city.

Man, we're kindred souls. I also have had issues with the bike running a bit rough since 2000 kms and the smell of something burning when I stop it after a high rpm run. I was thinking its oil burning (or clutch burning??). Im using 15w40 SS oil.

Tried it a while back with a testing can too. Best I got was 50 kmpl in city riding without too much traffic.

I think there is design flaw and suzuki should take a note on this , we all have faced that 3500-4000 RPM resonanace which feels annoying , i accidently& intentially put rubber mounts( washer) at silencer (muffler) mounting near rear foot pegs and Lo ... vibration just vanished, after varifyng with other bikes (uni, puls, splendor, rtr , ..etc) every other bike has those rubber mountings to hold silencer.
since 3 days i am driving with in this band 3.5-4K and no resonnce at all , you guys can try and verify .

Definatly i will post the pictures once i have digi camera, its just near rear footpegs were there is a screw & nut joining the silencer to arm body , remove the screw , take care silencer doesn't hang for long(other part is firmly joined at engine oulet), insert 3 mm thick rubber packing( can cut used tube according to size of screw , though i found one like washer near garages)insert between silencer and arm body and tighten , thats all your vibrations are gone and its free...no harm to engine & other parts of the vehicle and takes just 2-3 minutes , even mere metal washer reduces vibes drastically but doesn't eliminate completly , though heat from silencer can damage the rubber , will try to work out solution(silicon or high temp rubber compound ) once my bike becomes old enough( 4 months till date) .
You can check vibes when you drive in that 3.5-4 k band and just place right foot on silencer (when not hot enough obivously), its outlet portwith engine dynamice that causes resonance vibes in that perticular range and transfered through silencer to foot pegs and other part of the body.
where in our GS , suzi has just joined with nut and screw like moped.
