A lorry ran over my GS front side. It was on sep 5,2009

    Damages:

    1) I had a broken left clavicle. My hand was on a belt for a month. Recovering slowly

    2) My GS - Headlight, alloy, fork etc etc - The lorry ran over my front parts

I am recovering slowly. Got my bike yesterday. 20k for the damages. Expecting the insurance

very much confused. many are asking me to sell the bike as i had accident for the 2nd time. But my heart is saying to hold on to my baby

Gonna keep myself cool with her until i recover completely.

It was like hell for me for the past 3 months without my bike.

    I love GS

    Bro....My...God that really a shocker...

A second accident....and such a big one...Bro...i hope you are recovering well....
Thank God the lorry did not run too near....but it ran over your bike front part itself is really shocking....I am getting goosebumps by just imagining it...
It would have been a dreadful experience for you.....

Bro please take care....I know many others tell you not to sell the bike...but my suggestion is to sell the bike....and if you really want a GS go for a new one again....
and you will have a positive feeling about it...
whatever puja you do...for the old bike...there will be a niggling in back of the mind always...that you had two accidents with it...(personal experience)

So please take care....and go for a new bike....hope the new Year brings a lot of GOOD LUCK and a new bike for you....

    Ride safe Bro...Take care....

Really sad news dude. Hope you and your bike are ok now.

Guess we people should get ABS for the discs, heard its very useful in such situations when we press the disc brake fully.

I guess you could keep the bike itself. dont let two accidents crush your biking spirit.

        • I went for a 200 km long ride with my GS. After returning, noticed that some part of the black paint on the left side of engine has peeled off
Has any one met with similar situation???
Anyway, went to sc and they repainted it.
I also requested for water servicing & then took the GS for teflon coating.
          Now she is sparkling gorgeous
I had also mentioned the service people about the problem of the front shocks being too stiff, and now I think it is somewhat smooth to ride on rough roads.
Applied thin white rim stripes and I think it look good on the black bike.
Got milage of 55+ on highway.
Now waiting for the 750 km service.

Accidents are part&parcel of life. Cheer yourself up&if you feel there is something wrong with the bike, get a puja done or something to ward off the evil eyes, before deciding to sell it off.

Regarding the bike, my vote would be to get rid of the bike and get a new one or a 4 wheeler. If you like the GS so much go ahead and trade the old one for a new GS. The new batch of bikes are known to be rid of many earlier niggles.

I know people are being superstitious and asking you to sell off the bike... Instead just get the bike to a temple and thank god for saving your life ( from the truck) and get your baby also blessed so that it does not encounter any such incidents again....

Accidents are a part and parcel of life.... you never know when and what is waiting for you.... Just enjoy your riding and be as safe as you can and wear proper protective gear whereever you go...

                Wishing you a speeeeeeeeedy recovery......

Thank you guys for your prayers ... I have started to ride my bike. Went to a mosque and did the procedures as said by my mom ... Keeping my bike very slow...

My mechanic asked me to ride the bike for a month... If i feel like selling it then he said I can... so i ll decide about it after a month

                And a quick enquiry guys:
What and all parts were changed during the GS camp?

I brought the bike from swapna suzuki, anna nagar.... The mechanic told that he has not replaced any parts in my bike as he felt i might sell the bike.. If i decide to continue with GS after a month then what and all parts i should ask for replacement???.. He said rectifiers were changed, rusted tanks were replaced and some piston thing (not sure guys) was changed in engine

                Thanks in advance

Congrats on your new bike. Enjoy your ride.
Its not about the speed (kmph) dude, its about the RPM. Keep it between 3-4.5K, with occassional burst upto 5.5K.
You can use the Eco mode, the light will glow when you cross the 4K RPM mark, so that you don't need to check the RPM meter all the time while driving.

Whats up mate, no posts for a pretty long time? Enjoying hols?

I am going to test drive GS this saturday at Pallavaram. I am having some queries regarding it

                          1. Do they allow to go for a long 5+ KM test drive?
                          2. Since the GST road is pretty well laid out, I want to take a detour somewhere and test drive it on pretty average roads, they do allow that right?
                          3. Did you get any offer from them?
                          4. How long is the waiting period?
                          5. How long did they take to register the bike?
                          6. Anyway to know if the bike is from the new lot?
                          7. Any tips from your side?

Sorry for the long long list.
Augustine, can you reply to my above post.
Hope you had a grt vacation.

                          • After a lot of research, I decided to take test drive of GS150R.

Before the test drive I wanted to drive Unicorn and CBZ, so as to get an idea how GS fares against them.

                            I am 5' 10 and 70Kg.
Unicorn(my brother's) had good riding position, engine, gearbox was smooth. An Ok pickup in 1,2 gears. But I can feel some vibrations in the handle bar at higher RPM. Went to 50KMPH in 3rd gear and can easily feel this.
If not for GS, I would have bought this.

CBZ-X(My friend's) much much better pickup in 1,2 and 4th gears. I didn't like the riding position, somehow it was not comfortable for me. Same vibration can be felt in the handle bar at 50KMPH in 3rd gear. Engine was smooth.

Having these 2 good bikes as benchmarks, I called Jains Suzuki, Chennai and asked if the show room will be open on Sunday as I wanted to test drive GS. The man checked with another person and told I can come on sunday before 1 PM.

There were only 2 people there one Mr.Ravi, who was attending another customer for Access and Mr.Kumar who greeted us warmly.
There were 3 GS in the showroom, told as this was sunday only few staffs were there, so he couldn't get us cool drinks. Then he went on to explain about the bike.

It was going fine till he explained abt the modes. He said, in Eco mode, you can ride upto 4K RPM, after that the bike won't go, there wil be no power.
In power mode , you can drive as you like and more power will be there.
I was like . But I didn't want to embarrass him, so I just kept quiet.

Mr.Kumar told me the disc is placed on the left side to increase stability, is this really true?

The test drive vehicle was very dirty and have clocked 8800Km on the odo. Even in neutral we have to pull the clutch and press the start button.
I let it idle for a good 2 minutes and checked the engine noise at idle and with throttle slightly raised. The engine noise was very quiet, it was comparable to Unicorn and below CBZ's engine. I was very impressed with the engine.

Then I sat on the bike, the bike suited me well, I felt really comfortable with the seating. Mr.Kumar sat behind me, then off we went, the pickup was slightly better and smooth than unicorn in the 1,2 gears, and smoother than CBZ but a bit lower. In 3rd and 4th gears all 3 bikes were identical, with CBZ edging out the other 2 in the 4th gear.
But I was really really impressed with the riding position and comfort, it was way beyond my expectation . Brakes were good, I used rear + front combination.

The tanks knee recess was wonderful and my legs were very comfortable and planted against the tank. The horn was pathetic, and the light which glows based on the mode selected, was hard to make out in day light.
I wanted to change from Eco mode to Power mode, but it was quiet difficult to do it when riding, so stopped the bike changed it and drove off. The sales guy asked do you feel the full power of the engine now?
People who don't research on the bike may fall for these kind of things.

Now I wanted to try the vibration thing. Took a U-turn at Chrompet and reached 50kmph effortlessly in 3rd gear, I saw the speedometer and was surprised to see it showing 45, then to 50 in no time, there was almost no vibration in the handle bar, I felt these vibration clearly in both Unicorn and CBZ. I was very much impressed .

Then sped till 70KMPH in 5th gear, and changed to 6th, it was a big let down, no appreciable acceleration in 6th, it was pretty sluggish. Then I just cruised slowly decreasing the speed, and when I reached 40kmph at 6th, there was no knocking. The bike just cruised. But when I increased the throttle, the pick up was not that great, had to downshift . The 6th gear is clearly for mileage and cruising purpose.

Overall very much satisfied with the test drive. They quoted on road proce of 68,100 Rs. I asked for accessories and discount, Mr.Ravi told, we will surely give you discount when you come to book.

He told, just tell us the color and ring us, your bike will be ready that evening or at worst next day, with registration and insurance fully completed.

They rang me up yesterday I told I will buy the bike around Pongal.

I was planning on buying black, but the Orange looked grt too. Friends told black is very common, so go for Orange. I personally like black, moreover its a no nonsense color.
I am quiet skeptical abt the bright (Orange) colors, will they last longer or will they fade away in 1 or 2 years. I am quiet confused about which color to choose.

My my, tat was pretty long.

Check for rusts as everyone mentioned.... Drive the bike you r going to buy before choosing the one... do not let them allot bike for you.... Personally make sure that you go to the show room and choose among 2 or 3 in your choice of color....

Good review about the test ride man.... I think 6th gear pick up after 70 in 5th is OK and not that bad.... Its good enough to give its competitors a tough run.... the 90 to 105 pick up is good....

And as you said the SC guys sometimes give wierd answers which makes us laugh... but what can they do about it..?? Their knowledge acquisition bandwidth is pretty limited.
