  • Planning to Own GS150R for me

Hi Friends, Long back i have replied in thread saying in near future im going to buy this one. i think that time as came now. by this weekend or next weekend im planning to buy this one. I had an idea of choosing one among 2 bike but if i post this in "What bike" section means obviously i will be getting lot of answer and even my mind will get into confusion easily, so i haven't did that.

I saw one GS150R in TI, BTP, Bangalore. Is he in this thread? Then is there any GS owner in BTP.

    • Service camp on Karaikal by Pondy dealer

Finally after my request the pondy service manager siva as promised came here on 12th he himself called me and inform about it other GS 150R owners are informed by local subdealer,I went 11am,they did first CO and HC test for my bike which seems to be on high side CO 1.67 on %, it should be less than 0.12 %,then he make to ride on 100ml petrol test got 4.7km for it ,then after tuning using CO gas analyzer, again went for 200ml test and got 10km,means 5km for 100ml...after adjusting the CO again went for another 200ml test and got 11km for 200ml
The local subdealer owner take us(courtesy) me ,siva(service head pondy) for a lunch(non/veg) .when we return and checked the CO in cold condition it is 0.06
Only 6 people bring their Gs150R, and one of the GS 150R odo clocked 28000km in 5 months he told me previously use to get 60kmpl now it is 50 to 52 like that
Let me see how much mileage i m getting now, i will update soon

Mr Mathew chennai how is ur mileage after service camp?

as for as unicorn, r15, GS150r, Fz are concerned they are almost square engines (reference: wikipedia)
the difference is depending on the valve timings...

high performance engines have high VALVE OVERLAPPING TIME (time period at which both intake and exhaust valves are open) this will aid good exhaust gas scavenging in HIGH SPEED, at the same time this engine show poor performance in low speed as exhaust gas will mix with air fuel mixture... this is the reason for R15 to have sluggish performance in low rpms and amazing performance in high rpms(>5000rpm)

        FZ is exactly opposite

low end torque can be increased by reducing the inlet valve opening duration but this will seriously affect the high speed performance (FZ)

            Hi!!!!
            I get a mileage between 40 to 44....
The main problem is that my shop is only 4kms from my house.... that too traffic area... twice or thrice a week i drive 35kms up and down to the electronic market...
Previously i used to get mileage figures like 35 33 33..
Considering these figures, my mileage has improved
But i guess i can expect more from this bike
anyways i have given up breaking my head....
My odo has only crossed 5k, feel the engine and gears are becoming smoother n smoother

              • Great bike

Hi guys, i have been following this thread and bought a black one on 26 dec. Its a decent bike and i am happy about it. Thank you guys for helping me make the decision. I have a question though, the local tyrewallah advices me to keep the pressure on the rear tyre at 32 even if i ride solo. However i am not confident about it as i felt it did not provide good grip on the road. Also on gravelled road it felt like a horse ride. What do you guys suggest? I know less pressure will result in rapid type wear. Also the zapper y do not provide good grip on wet road. By wet i mean village road drenched in water, not mud. Please suggest a good tyre with good grip on wet surface. Thanks. Raj

                • I ride mostly two up, so the tyre pressure is 28 at front, 35 at rear. For solo, keep rear at 32. The horse ride feeling is because either the shocks are too soft or maybe they are yet to run in. DOn't worry, the bike and you will get accustomed as the time goes by.

Don't worry about the tires. I rode pretty fast in blazing rains in number of times, and never felt the tyre lack grip. Don't see any point in changing new tires. If you are still bent on getting new tires, then wait for the replies. Hope you enjoy the ride.

                  • Killaaaaaar

Well friends 1.5k in Odo and the bike is blasing. Minor problems are here and there like squeezy sound in discs (only occationally), soft rear brakes... etc......... but one thing i wanted to mention to someone who was test driving GS and he sounded like a baap in researching bikes... Told aboult lack of pick up in GS in 6th gear.

Right i Remember his handle is "Joey" i think.

I belived in wot u said coz i haven tried to rip ma bike but since u made that comment, I really wanna test it myself... Yesterday i got a chance to do so (Not exactly ripped)... Was driving in Rajiv gandhi salai in chennai towards Perungudi.. My RPM was at 4k and ma speed is constant at 49k on 6th gear.. A stupid Tempo traveller was buzzing behind me to overtake me, hence i made space for him movin over to right, in turn ma speed dropped to 37 at 3k and i was hesistant to downshift, Bugger was still buzzing horn as he passed me which was annoying coz they were no traffic before us. I just raised ma throttle without any downshift and i reached 83 as my RPM was near 6k and 37 to 83 happen in No time. absolutely no time... so its not abt lack of punch in 6th gear. its just that power has distributed in mid and high range regardless of gears (atleast in ma bike)... that was the first time i was raising my bike's RPM above 4.5 and it really "Drove me Crazy"

Hail this Silent Beast... he is more than worth to own......
                    Absolute Killaaaaar............

The bike seems very stable in speeds though i haven't ridden past 60, but one time on a downhill just reached 75 while overtaking a container and knew it only when i saw speedo. So far i have ridden it only a 50 km in a straight stretch. The problem i face is that the engine is getting heated . I only rev up to 4k rarely reaching 4.5 k when i cant hear engine due to traffic. Mileage seems to be in 50-55 range. Also the rear shock absorbers are giving a squeaking sound. Please give your valuable suggestion, thanks in advance .
I see so much owners of GS and quite new ones too, but no one bothered to give me a reply. I bought this one even though my friends were against GS since i liked this one. So im counting on you guys .........

                        Dear Anupdas,

Dont worry too much about the engine heating, which is many a times quite normal with the new bikes during the run-in period.

just make sure that you do not cross the prescribed rev/ speed limit during that period. Also, should you feel that it is way too much then Normal, please feel free to contact the Service Centre.

                        Congrats on the purchase though.

                        • Thanks for the reply, two days back when rode it for around half an hour i felt like something is throbbing inside engine. I stopped the bike and stopped engine for 5 mins. And i felt a decrease in response of bike. So was a little worried over engine heating.

thanks for your reply. I can see that the manual suggests to keep 25psi on the front n 28psi on the rear for solo. For double riding it is 25 on the front and 33 on the rear. Currently the rear suspension is adjusted to settings 2 and is working well. However the front suspension is giving the horseride feel. I hope it will improve with time as you have suggested.

                            • Actually you can keep around 10% more in tires for increase in mileage (according to a Bike India tip). I have kept this way for a long time now, and never felt the need to come back to stock settings.
