well, what I told you about the Modes is as true as it can be. That is with the fact that i was with one of the Suzuki dealerships in North India as General Manager and the features of GS150R were described in details by the Head of Marketing, and then again by the service Head of north India. couldnt get any better person to explain me that, and yes, I too made it a point to ask about the Mapping and the purpose of the modes. now it is up to you to decide whom to believe on.

its not the question of not believing you, it was just a question of confirming my doubts which you cleared.Originally posted by dcs View Postwell, what I told you about the Modes is as true as it can be. Guys. I had a Test Drive of the GS150 Today and all i can say is wow!! This machine amazes me each time I ride it! I'm planning to book one on wednesday at ABT, Nandanam (nearest to me) in chennai.
I'm only worried about the After sales service because the sales rep tried to convince us (me and sriram_efunds) that they have downgraded to a 7 Ah battery to change the exhaust beat !!!! (we debated a good 10 mins trying to put some sense into him but didnt work out and went ahead with the TD)
Before I go ahead, I have a couple of questions for gs 150 owners :
1. Are there any sections you feel could have been improved? I felt that the inital pickup was a bit low compared to other bikes. The Bike i rode had a kind of bad gear box. Downshifts were a bit hard. Anybpdy who has been facing such issues?
2. This is kind of hard to accept, but the sales rep was boasting aout how he hit 120 today morning while he was on his way to the RTO for registering a new gs 150. I was totally appalled by the fact that a brand new bike was ripped senseless during it's initial run in. when asked if what he did was right he tried to justify his actions by saying that it's okay to hit 120 for a few seconds during run in.. I didn't quite like his attitude because if were to do the same thing and accept it (boast about it rather) in front of the dealer they will see this as a opportunity to screw the warranty. I mean, why such a attitude? Is it with only ABT suzuki or with others as well? I dont really understand! Chennai guys.. Help!!
Cheers!
Ragav
P.S. I have the greenish blue in my mind. very exclusive and a definite head turner!

True, the GS 150 is not so bad a bike, my friend owns one and he says its the better than anything he has ridden. Don't worry abt the gear shift. New bikes have them tough and tight. After 500km, you can feel the difference. The engine is silent like unicorn though vibrations set in after 75 km/hr. Mileage is excellent at 55plus. This is more of a tourer bike and gives its true form in the highways.
The only problem is that it is manufactured by Suzuki. The dealer you mentioned earlier should be a real fool to take the bike to 120. ( The maximum ever recorded for a gs 150r is 114km/hr. ) Till 1000km, the speed must NEVER exceed 50km/hr. I suggest you contact the unfortunate person whose bike was registered and Don't blindly believe the sales persons. They did do anything to sell this bike because they are the minimum of sales in 150cc segment.
Anyway good luck.Reduce 1 km/hr speed, add 1second 2 ur life.

^ thanks vinchel.. Yeah I tried to talk sense to him but as usual it failed.. the bugger must have told me the speedo indicated speeds... Its not a true 120.
I'm also told that i cannot accompany the bike to the RTO even if i am willing to. I dont want the showroom guys to rip her. I'll have to try and convince the guy that i'll ride her to the RTO. I dont mind taking a day off for this. It will take a whole week for me to get my hands on the GS 150, thanks to the festive season.

You have the option of registering the bike yourself. You need to do the paperwork on your own, or catch hold of an agent. In which case, the registration charges must be removed from your Invoice too!Originally posted by felix.ragav View Post^ thanks vinchel.. Dealers also use the same agents. Take their no.from the dealer&contact them directly. If the agent charges Rs.300, the showroom charges you Rs.600, pays the dealer Rs.300&pockets Rs.300. I found it faster to go directly to the same agent, since the dealer comes with many vehicles.Originally posted by felix.ragav View Post@ sarvajit: Sounds Interesting. How long does it take? Do you end up paying less than what the showroom charges? What about the RTO's? Do they give first preference to the dealers? any issues faced as such?
thanks!
The agent will tell you what documents are necessary-like Invoice, copy of residence proof etc. He takes everything from you&fills up the forms etc.paperwork. You are asked to go the RTO at a specified time&if you go there at the right time, the registration process is done in 5 minutes flat. The agent submits the form&stands beside you while the RTO people make note of the chassis&engine no. You are asked to leave.
Later the RC is sent to your place by the RTO via post. Simple.
If you want to save agent charges also, you could visit the RTO&find out what forms are to be filled etc.but that would mean waiting in queue for almost a day. I find paying Rs.2-300 much better to finish it off in 5 mins.!Quench my thirst with gasoline!

@ sarvajit: Roger that! It looks like it's easy. I think the showroom guys wait for more bikes to be pooled in rather than taking one bike at a time. They said It'll take 3 days for registration. I'll Get it registered directly.. It's not the matter of saving 300 bucks but the satisfaction you derive from knowing it hasn't been ripped or badly treated from day one...

Yes! I replied to your message too. I also prefer it coz we can take our vehicle there, save on time, money&no one touches it other than you.Originally posted by felix.ragav View Post@ sarvajit: Roger that! It looks like it's easy. few of the long stroke Bikes I know of are:
the Baap of all-- Bullets,Karizma,GS 150 R.
As far as I know, a yamaha R15 is a long stroke bike and a Yamaha FZ 16 is a short stroke bike. now, if only stroke is what matters in a bikes performance than I wonder how R15 and a Karizma are faster bikes as compared to few other short strokes of the same capacity engine.
also, it is right in saying that long stroke bikes are more torquey as compared to Short strokes but it again is a very reletive statement and has too many ifs and buts attached to it.
dcs
you are wrong about the r`15 and the FZ. the R15 is a SHORT stroke engine, and the FZ is long stroke.
Short strokes make less power at low revs and more at high revs. Long strokes make higher torque at low revs and less horsepower at high.
Also there IS a Significant difference in power characteristics between a long stroke motor and a short stroke. that explains the 'relaxed'(read comfortable cruising at lower revs) nature of say the unicorn, GS150 etc and the 'aggressive' nature of the RTRs(true short stroke bikes in india IMO, apart from the R15 and the 250R)Last edited by ajslave; 01-12-2010, 02:07 PM.

Isnt R15 long stroke High revving engine..

If R15 is a long stroke. then your 2nd point seems to be not correct here..

Agreed.. but I think you have not driven the Gs150r.. it is long stroke alright but all the power is in Mid Range & top range only... It produces max power @ 8500rpm which in now way you can say it is low revving.

Saaaar! Please refer to the online resources or any other that you can trust.
if you strict follow the simple Long and short stroke theory, then any Combustion chamber where the diameter of piston is greater then the stroke, it will be a short stroke and vice-versa.
So, Yamaha R15 is a long stroke bike with Bore x Stroke:Bore & Stroke:Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

oops. sorry guys, i stand corrected. i never had a look at the bore and stroke specs of the R15 and the FZ, just thought i had read it somewhere. my bad
.
and i have ridden the Gs150R for a short while, it didn't feel much of a revver to me
or maybe i 'm used to the harsh nature of my 220, and with other refined bikes cant fell that i'm goin fast cuz there wont be any there's massive vibes, etc
.
sorry for hijacking this thread anyway...Last edited by ajslave; 01-13-2010, 09:10 AM.

Hii friends i own a GS150R since last week. Have clocked 375 km on Odo. Just as everyone mentioned i bought it for its smooth drive and gear shifts. The bike seems very stable in speeds though i haven't ridden past 60, but one time on a downhill just reached 75 while overtaking a container and knew it only when i saw speedo. So far i have ridden it only a 50 km in a straight stretch. The problem i face is that the engine is getting heated . I only rev up to 4k rarely reaching 4.5 k when i cant hear engine due to traffic. Mileage seems to be in 50-55 range. Also the rear shock absorbers are giving a squeaking sound. Please give your valuable suggestion, thanks in advance .Last edited by Anupdas; 01-13-2010, 01:14 PM.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........
