So once in a while do a drag. See what the GS is capable of. Which part of Thrissur are you from? Watch out for safety though.
About oil I think you should stick to mineral oil atleast till you clock 10,000 kms. They say, "80% of the breakin happens in the 20% of kms covered and the rest 20% takes the 80% of kms." (Dont ask me who are they ) What I mean is though the initial breakin complets in 1600 kms, it will take some more kms for the breakin to complete fully. So its good to wait before changing to synthetic or semi.
I want to rev it and know how if feels, most of the time i have a pillion so cant rev too much as it will be uncomfortable for him. Also I daily run some 50km, so need to keep an eye for fuel economy. Whenever i tried to rev , engine sound is refraining from it. Its better to wait till second service. Undoubtedly the noise is from engine, how can i say a tapetting like valves or inner chains as if they don't have much lubrication.
Today i opened the drive chain cover and found that though the chain is well lubricated, but its making a grinding sound. Sand grains were making the noise, I cleaned it with kerosene and then lubricated with grease. Opened the primary sprocket cover and saw a lot of debris, cleaned it as well. Now the grinding sound is gone.
Im from Mannuthy, 5km from Thrissur round and very near to NH-47. Today was harthal here and went out for a drag revved till 90K. I liked the response of 5th gear, 6th gear was very sluggish though.

For me the bike revs freely even when engine is hot, and that choking thing happened only once.. I'm just worried about the sound..

      @ Augustine:
Even i'm considering changing to a w50 oil. the roughness will most likely be due to oil not withstanding the high temp of engine.

But i heard w50 will make the bike sluggish(especially in the mornings) as its thicker.
I aggree that the bike revs freely when the engine is hot...

The rating of the engine oil in Winter is 20 for both cases... [20W40 and 20W50] Its only the high temperature rating that is different. So I think it'll not make the bike sluggish in the mornings

Last day in an article i read that loosening of chain is also indication of wearing.
Probably the launch of GS was marred by the hype FZ got.... Its been more than 1 year since our babe was launched and still people call it new bike.... My uncle last month saw my bike and asked me if this was an imported SUZUKI .....
Yes people will not like the GS if they are very sporty and power hungry like the P220, R15, RTRs and FZ etc... But there are many who are amazed by my bike even though they are not actually for it.... My room mate was blown off by my bike's smoothness at 100Kmph... Then he tried one of his friends' RTR180 and complained of vibrations even at 80... He was able to appreciate my bike more after that.... But he still does not want to buy it....
Let us not be bothered about all those people... As long as our babe satisfies us.... We'll enjoy...

He told not to worry about it and they will surely replace the tank once the replacement comes. He also told, not every bike has this issue, but few still have it, but they will surely replace it.

The service guys were really good, and I almost forgot the anger against Suzuki because of them.

I thanked them and left. But I really hope Suzuki to recall their bikes and replace the tanks, as this will put an end to this issue once and for all.
Hey joey.... Do not let them make you wait for long... Get it replaced asap... and yes Jain suzuki is pretty descent in customer service....

      • The squeaking sound has come up again, barely 1 day after they fixed it.

This 'keech...keech' sound coming from a new bike is really driving me crazy.
Yep, Suzuki promised it will drive us crazy, but not in this manner.

Anyway going to the Showroom again, to get it Fixed and also to adjust the headlight beam.

        • Bought my grey buddy three days back.

          Hi All GS owners,

I thank you one and all wholeheartedly for helping me to choose the best in 150cc.

          I have some queries:

Before asking let me tell you that this is my first bike i do not have prior experience with any bike.So you might think some queries as silly

1)what are the aspects that i need to take care till the first service.(Based on Ur experiences.)like correct speed and rpm and any other thing that i need to take care that is worth take caring.

2)feel that the engine is heating up too fast and high.Is there any parameter by which i can measure the correct heatness of the new bike.

3)I want to well versed with my gs,at least the basics.which will help me in maintain the bike in optimum tuned and can solve small issues and cannot be fooled by the servicemen/mechanic.
So is there any crash course/workshop kind of thing which will teach me the basics of bike in general.I am willing to pay and learn. If so please mail me the details.

          Thanks,
          Proud GS Owner.

          • Congrats on your new ride

Congrats for your ride mate. Two months back i was feeling the same way as you are feeling now. You don't need to worry too much about how you are driving. You will get hold of this things faster than you think. I have been following this forum for some time and I'm quoting all those what i learned from here.

Properly follow "running in" as given in manual. Instead of what speed you are driving you should keep an eye on the engine rpm maintain it below 5000 rpm for first 800 km and below 8000 rpm for next 800 km. It is advised to vary the rpm freely so that all moving parts get proper running in and it also leads to heating and cooling of engine. Rev freely in all gears and change around 4K.

Since the engine is new it will get hot pretty soon. Avoid riding more than 30 mins or so. On cold start, keep the ignition off and kick 4-5 times and then kick start properly. Keep it idle for at least 30 seconds so that engine gets adequate lubrication. Repeat this procedure every time when the engine is cold. Try to ride in top gears as possible. Drive safely..........

              Welcome to GS club buddy.

As Anup said, don't give too much thought to your lack of experience.
First of all, go through the manual carefully, so that you will get a good idea about your bike.

Just enjoy your ride with your bike, in a few weeks you will certainly be confident about your bike.
Make sure you follow the steps (as mentioned in the manual) during the run in period.
And also, if possible ride other 150 cc bikes occassionally so that you don't praise or curse GS unnecessarily.

Treat the service people in a friendly way, and they will certainly respond in similar fashion.

Every bike has its pros and cons, don't focus too much on the cons and spoil your date with your bike.

              • Hey Guys clocked 1600 on odo, got the blue babe on jan 15th, well so far the bike has just been amazing like real good i must say, i did not experience any sorts of problem till date, changed the tire to dunlop as its a soft compund and slightly wider than the stock mrf.
the handling has improved after the update the first 1400 i got an avg of 30km which i was worried but now i am getting around 45 and i hope it will increase a little more after 2000km.
the revving has just been really amazing i've hit top 88kmph after 30 mins of riding last week and oh my god it was brilliant no vibs and it stuck to the ground amazing grip and i could hear the sound of the wind and the engine sound dissappeared after 70kmps however after 85 it was slightly audible, did not feel the choking problem yet! the headlight beam was adjusted and sadly they have lowered it so much that it is almost same was the dipper, upper and dipper no difference i've got to fix that .

the ridabilty has ful marks 2 hours ride did not give me any sorts of back pain where as on my discover my back used to ache after just 15-20 mins. i am totally satisfied with the machine, i hope to see more

i am sad to see that some of the owners here are having problems with thier gs's, trust me guys let it cross 1500 it will be heaven after that running at 6.5 rpm makes feel wanna have sex with the bike .. omg you willl love it ..till then kae sure you dont cross 70 !

best of luck , ride safe guys ! \m/

                • Booked the black gs yesterday

                  Hello everyone

This is Kalyan. I am from Mumbai. I have been following this thread for a week and it has been an emotional roller coaster for me. I was "high" for the first hundred pages then "low" till next two hundred pages. But finally I went with my heart as suggested by many gs owners and booked the bike from malad suzuki yesterday and getting the delivery next week. Wish me luck and I hope I won't come across the dreaded "R" word.

Congrats one choosing your new bike buddy.
All the very best for your ride with GS.

The bike is really very very good.
Most of the lows mentioned in the bike is present in almost all bikes. Reserve your judgement till you have atleast 1-2K Kms on your odo, and do ride other bikes to really understand the pros and cons of GS.

I do have the rust issue as mentioned in my previous posts, and am pretty furious abt it, but the service guys own up to the fault (of Suzuki) and are replacing the tank immediately, so don't lose sleep over this issue.

                      • Called Jains Suzuki yesterday and enquired about the bike cover for GS, they told it will take a further 2 weeks. (I have already been waiting for 2 weeks).
So went to the Honda Showroom and purchased the Honda Stunner bike cover.
                        The price was Rs.286/-

The cover suits GS very well, especially the buckle to clasp the cover underneath the bike is very nice.

Thanks Joey. I know the bike is good. The only thing I am worried about is "R" issue. I checked the bike that I am getting thoroughly, everything looks clean. But I could not check the inside of the tank as i did not have flash light and my cell phone light is not strong enough.

Thanks man...I live in Sion, so Malad is closer for me. Is there any issue with Malad dealer?

One question for GS Mumbai owners. The sales guy told me that there is a list of so called "work shops" in various places in Mumbai where I can give my bike for servicing in case of emergency situations like my bike is not starting at all. Are you guys aware of any such work shops?

There is absolutely no issues with the Malad dealer.

I would suggest you stick to Malad Suzuki for any kind of services & issues. When you give your bike for service at Malad get your bike serviced from Murthy who is good mechanic and had undergone training in Delhi.Speak to Mr.Narendra the service head over there & you can tell him,you are my friend. If you face any issues with them do let me know,I can help you out.
