  • Engine Gaurd

I've uploaded the pics of the engine gaurd i've fitted [made of fibre.. but was expecting metal]. The SC charged Rs. 200 for those..... But it solves the purpose. Thought of putting on something sporty but heard it might affect the cooling for the engine.

For the past 2 times I've been getting milleage of above 50 contrasting to the past 3 months in which I used to get only 43. Hope it would improve better in the future.

    • I have completed 4.5k on my ODO

Can anybody from hyderabad tell me the good SC in hyderabad.
iBay Motors,Kukatpally branch has got the worst technicians. They do not know much about GS150R

Till now I have done 4th free service. I feel they just do the oil change, no other service.

      The mileage is still poor.
The headlight is poor ( I have BA series RR unit)
Much sound from chain and suspension etc.
      Very low pickup.
Engine sound has become rough ( It was very smooth till second service)
Gear shifting is very hard.Unable to shift to neutral(zero)

Please help me to find a good service center in Hyderabad.
      Please help me.

      • Ok people.. GS150R is my 1st bike after Razorback bicycle =D
Now, here one guy said that You should ride @ following speeds to get perfect mileage & power I.E.

1st gear- just the pick up..
        2nd gear- Upto 18KMPH
        3rd Gear - Upto 24-28 KMPH
        4th - Upto 40 Max &
        5th Upto 50 & 6th later on..

Now one senior member Animeher replied
"Yikes!! I can't even imagining riding at those speeds at those gears! For me, it is
        10-30 second gear
        30-39 Third
        40-49 fourth
        50-55 fifth
        56 above 6th"

Whom should I follow ? Since my pocket money is not too much so I want my mileage to be real nice with nice performance too *_-
        So.. HELP !

Almost all bikes gives their best fuel economy when ridden between 4K-5K rpm and the speeds animeher mentioned is around 4.5K mark in every gears. I used to ride in that range for fuel economy, but now its very difficult to keep the needle below 5K all the time.

              • @ Augustine

Why did you go for an engine guard? The guard seems to block free air flow and it may make engine run hot? Previously in our thread there was some discussions regarding the engine guard, some one said "why would anyone provide protection for cast iron engine with some thin metal plate for protection".

                • Accident !

had the worst accident of my lifetime(2nd in ma lifetime.. both in GS within 3 months of getting it).. i was cruising happily @90@6G in the empty road.. suddenly a passsion guy travalling in ma direction suddenly took a u turn without seeing both sides.. applied disk ,, slowed down but suddenly d bike started to pull right side(may be due to disk.. heard someone discussed tis problem here) skidded, crashed on that bike. i was thrown away in the tar road, scratching along.. jus now i got ma doom n all others changed due d previous accident.. n within 2 weeks of it agin i always had difficulty in this bike in havin stability while breaking at high speeds.. dono wat you guys feeling..

i am still thinking whether to again claim insurance? this time jus d doom got heavy deforming.. luckily this time the handlebar is not bent that much as last time..but d bike is good now .. only me got injured(should be otherwise i feel).. wound bands all over the body now.. only heavy scrapping of skin in many parts.. luckily no bone breakage or head injuries(was not wearing helmet.. it was in helmet locker in d bike) .. hope i dont do a HATRICK

bye guys .. always wear helmet.. its a lesson for me.. and always blow a loud long horn if you are at high speeds and unaware of environment will catchyou guys later.. Thought of going for the Independence day parade @ secundrabad on sunday.. bad luck

                  • Why engine guard ??? I personally dont like mud to get accumulated on the engine putting an extra mud guard in the front tyre will look awkward. So to make it look better, it tried this.... But looking at your comments I now feel its very silly to have one.

If i am not wrong you have installed engine gaurd for protecting the engine from monsoon woos.......but it makes engine cooling a bit difficult in monsoon and winter but worst in summer....instead you can install mud muffler it costs hardly Rs15 and also makes engine more aired......i did that (the mud muffler fits exactly to the size of tyre mud gaurd)and i can hardly notice rain water lashing the engine during rains from the front tyre........

                      • @ anoop: Buddy, the Engine gaurd augustine has installed wont affect cooling in anyway. Only the larger full engine gaurd would cause problems. Its a good investment. Constant water lasing on the hot engine parts is not good for the engine. The reason being, hot metal has to be cooled down slowly, otherwise it will result in weakening and cracks.

@saaru: dont ever do the mistake of driving without the lid for even 10 ft man. Did you realise that when riding at 40 Kmph you are travelling at 36 Ft per second! thats a lot!!!! Imagine what would happen if you had hit something hard like a barricade or a wall. Hope you recover soon....

To say the truth, personally I have felt many times that GS should be provided with engine guard as the exhaust tube is somewhat in a vulnerable position compared to Uni and FZ (in them the exhaust pipe is below the crash guard) so even if something happen the exhaust pipe wont take much damage. But if you are fitting the engine guard just to keep mud away is useless as even the guard will get muddy and it wont provide much protection. Don't ever let mud to accumulate on engine as it will reduce the cooling of engine

Thats a point, but i think engines are forged considering each and every possible scenarios. If water is splashed on hot non running engine it may lead to sudden cooling but splashing of water on running engine wont cool engine that much ,by the way have you noticed the engine smoothness on riding rainy days.

Did you driving style change by any way? The same thing happened to me as well, after 2nd service mileage kept on coming down till I tuned it myself. Idling screw can be found easily, you know where the cable of throttle is connected, rite? You can see find idling screw there(refer your manual if you still dont have any idea).

The marked one is the air/fuel screw.
