From the showroom I recieved only petrol enough to run 7kms (according to the dealer), so I refilled around 10ltrs that day, odometer said 10kms at this point. Then in between sometime I had to switch to reserve and then the blinking started. I covered around 15kms with the blinking. Last evening I refilled the tank with 2.12ltrs, odo reading was 280km (petrol knob turned back to full). And this morning when I again had to switch to reserve with the ODO reading @ 302km...

So in this way, the calculations come:

    Petrol
    12.2ltrs - 3.1ltrs(reserve) -> 9.1ltrs

    ODO reading
    302km-10km(initial reading) -> 292km

    Therefore,

    292/9.1 = 32.08km/ltr

Hi, I'm pretty sure that the bike is not too bad to give that milleage. There is something missing in the calculation. Milleage can be calculated from reserve to reserve as most of us do. So lets begin,
On the day you bought the bike you filled 10 lit. The odo reading dosent matter now. You have not mentioned when the bike came to reserve first time, (I have made your reply in bold above). probably the distance covered from that point to 302 divided by 2.2 might probably give a close to accurate milleage.

When i bought the bike I filled around 11 lit approx (Rs 500). I switched to reserve at 430 kms. which gives approx of 53 KMPL considering 3 lit reserve.

I m not comfortable with test drives as I don't know how do drive bikes so well, used to drive dad's old scooter that too not on main road. I like GS but my dad is inclined to CBZ Xtreme because of HH brand.

    32.08km/ltr

@Riaz: Comparing with CBZX, Obviously CBZX is more powerfull, Similar milage (may be 2-3kmpl less)

    Is it so ??
Hey I personally do not have a heart for HH bikes even though some of them are gr8 like zma.

If you want to zoom ahead at every signal, then GS is not for you. If you are looking for Ride comfort, smoothness, good milleage, Decent pickup and power, excellent torque, ONLY then go for the GS. It also gives you added goodies like the Superb digital console, cool tail lamps, etc..

I'm yet to see a person here who has regretted choosing the GS. So make have your requirements, purpose clearly defined and make a wise decision.

I think it was around 235km when I had to switch to Reserve. So if we consider that way, the mileage is

      302km - 235km = 67km
      67/2.2 = 30.45km/lt

      which is even worse...!

Even I did a 500rs fill first time. And still had to switch to reserve so soon?!

The current odo reading is I believe 308km, will now fill it up with another 2ltrs of petrol and see what is the outcome...Any other suggestions?

Also, when you filled your bike with petrol, how much had the dealer provided you??

I'm not sure. The had put around 2 to 2.5 lit to do the basic PDA and registration which should not have crossed 10 Kms. Lets see what you get this time. I'll keep updated about my current milleage

@ShadowFax - Since your bike is also new almost came along with mine... did you try to calculate what mileage you are getting?
No man, not yet. I will post my mileage figures in few days. Im more concerned abt engine stress and sound on upward slope. So I had almost forgotten the mileage... But now I know that I was over expecting from GS.. so what if its less smoother & silent on ascending rd than say unicorn and xtreme...?? but I am really happy with my ride !!! I hope that this will reduce after arnd 1600 km when engine parts mating is completed..
Im waiting for July bike India test of GS..... Lets see what they say, if they report same things we've noticed.

                        • An update on braking

My bike is exactly 2 months old today

Well... About the braking.... I feel its getting better now... My rear brakes have become crisp... I am able to use the disc brake effectively (maybe this is my first bike and so i am learning the braking skills with this... i have been riding the pulsars of my friends all these days [before GS] and felt the GS disc brake not to be crisp..... I rode my cousin's one month old CBZ-X and i felt that the braking to be similar to GS..Not very crisp... I am gonna try my hands on pulsar and apache soon regarding the braking... so that i can come up with a comparison)

Overall i am beginning to get a satisfaction on the braking

Gr8... My rear brakes even after the first service are not upto the mark. I repeatedly told to the SC guy but he responded saying all the bikes are like this. He also reported that a spring needs to be changed and there were no spare parts available at that time.
Also i had complained about the orange button near the accelerator that does not work properly. For that also spares were not available and he told that once spares are available he'll change it.
Now is this a problem with suzuki in availability of spares, or with that showroom(chennai, pallavaram) alone ? I just hope that the brakes will improve. The discs are doing a pretty good job...

BTW, Ride is becoming smoother .. I just got to touch the 6K rpm mark and 80Kmph. Scared about going further since bike has not crossed 800Kms. Only ~650 on the odo...

                            • met suzuki engineers today

heyy guys.. today few japanese engrs and suzuki indian mgmt pple came to apple auto, bangalore to meet GS customers.. some 10 cutomers were selected to talk to the suzuki reps.. as i was one of the pain in the asses for the SVC guys, they called me to meet these guys..
                              told them abt following things-
                              1). not enough bright headlight..
                              2). slug rear brakes..
3). the electrical start switch had some loose connections for me(which i got replaced instantly)..
4). the 3.5-4k rpm engine roughnes..
5). sometimes the engine feels choked as if there is no petrol..(no answer for it yet)..
they themselves started askin me hows it compared to unicorn.. and i gave them a detailed desc.. suggested them to bring GS in few more colors.. i got a pen as a gift.. only a pen.. pple in chennai got t-shirts too..
the jap engrs took test rides of all the vehicle and i was told tht they will look into the 3.5-4k rpm issue.. they got similar reports from all the places.. so they want to see whether its a drawback of vehicle or it was a problem with a specific assembly line.. told me that they will contact me asap.. then they had a stress test of the vehicle.. a heavy pillion on slope and uphill and stuff..
these guys did a tour frm hyd, guntur, coimbatore, chennai and then they came to banglore.. and it was their last stop.. one of them was quite impressed by Mr. Mathew from chennai and i think he is on XBHP..
I like to meditate a lot.. On my BIKE!
