This modified gear ratios ensures better pickup than the old ones.

I believe the older gear ratio would have had a better pick-up in first gear and the current (2012) gear ratio gives a smoother ride.

          • First Service in Chennai

            Dear Chennai xbhpians,

Iam heading for my first service in Chennai. Can you please suggest which one of the following SVC is good:

            1. JAV Suzuki, Adyar
            2. ABT Suzuki, Nandanam

It would also be great if any of the SE from these SVC can be recommended here. I have couple of issues in my bike and I need some understanding person to take of it.

            Thanks in Advance

Hi Murali, I took my bike from JAV Adyar, but due to a sore experience during the delivery itself made my mind fixed not to do service there, even the 1st service..
So I headed to ABT service and got my bike serviced till now, they're much friendly to me from the time I went for enquiry before booking my bike at JAV..
And major thing is they are listening to our words..
Mr.Mahesh is the SC Manager and you can talk to him or contact SC supervisor Mr.Antony(I remember so).. They'll definitely help you..
[Even service engineers/mechanics at the bay are also maintaining a good rapport with us and they to give some tips..]

One of our chennai member Sriki.GSpian gets his bike serviced from JAV Suzuki, Adyar and his experience is so far good with them..

FYI, SMK (Velachery & Porur) is at par equivalent to ABT..

              OT:
I do get call from my SC, about 3-5days after the bike is serviced to know my feedback about the service / bikes performance.. Is it happening in your SC too?

The gear ratios now are as posted by me earlier.

The difference in the pickup in first gear is nominal and negligible.

Hope you have received my message. Besides what I said, clean / replace the air filter too.

It can be removed evenafter it fastens. If you find it difficult to remove take it to your nearest sticker shop, they'll help you..

Apart from the improvements said by fadeawayraj, these are also some improvements in the latest batch of bikes.

1.Headlight cowl/Visor design has been changed (Bike looks a little small and fresher now )
2.Engine is much smoother than ever
3.Handle bar end weights have been increased to eliminated the minute vibes at handle bar..
4.Sides panels near the tank area are redesigned..
                    5.Rear Brakes are also improved.

I prefrred the look of the old fairing, but were there problems with the old fairing like rattling? And if yes, does the new fairing design solve the problem?

Does anyone have pictures of the latest generation GS in red/orange & black colour?

Oh buddy, you improperly used the word rattler in this forum, though there is a separate thread for that bike (first letter+middle letter+last letter of rattler).. Just kidding...

Nope, not that much rattling effect, only a minimal vibration at higher speeds in the earlier batch bikes.. I would say it's solved now..
Atleast in my bike I was feeling no such problems even when I'm cruising at 100k+ ..

What about other 2012 GS guys?

                      • Met with an accident today. this happened when i was travelling at a speed of 50 s downterrain and an indica cab suddenly appeared from one cross road in the opposite direction at a high speed in a one lane road of BU, where cars are not allowed.
i couldnot reduce the speed since it was down terrain(did not use engine braking). At the last minute to avoid an head on head collision i moved on to a layer of silt sand at the side of the road, lost control due to application of front brake on the sand. skidded on the sand with the bike and pillion. the impact dragged me, my pillion and the bike to few meters. sad part was that Cab did not stop at all

As we fell on sand, we escaped with few bruises and cuts here and there. My watch got damaged badly. the crash guard of my bike got bent and half of the metal in it got rubbed off . and there are heavy scratches on the front cowl of my bike.

Very surprised that there were no scratches on the other part of the bike like tank or real pannel.

Glad that my bike saved the day, But feeling very sad about the damages on it.

The old fairing and windshield is causing vibration if the alignment is lost. Now the design of the windshield and the visor nuts are changed. You can still fit the old model headlight assembly on the new bike if ready to spend about Rs. 3750/- plus servicing charges.
Here is the picture of black bike. Red was not in stock then.

I too have faced one recently which broke right leg of my pillion rider
(the plastering is not yet removed), laptop monitor, mobile phone display, sunglass, headlight assembly of the bike, its handle bar, right side indicator etc.

Happy to know that both of you escaped without serious injuries.
Headlight cowl costs Rs. 900/- and the crash guard Rs. 360/-. Try to claim insurance.

FYI even in old model GS it won't produce any rattling or vibration if the head or visor unit wasnot screwed up by some half baked service engineer aka mechanic.

am using first generation GS so am sure about it.

                              • Today on my return journey my bikes front tyre wobbling on slow speeds, first i thought my front mac wheel got bent again but my pillion said "chalte reh fast fast mat dekh aas pas" and i agreed wid him and started crusing at 80-90kmph, I dont even bother to stop and check further...
Rode around 30kms and took a break for having water, in the mean time i checked front tyre and W.T.F. i've seen a flattned tyre...
Then immidiately took it to puncture shop and thers a piece of glass in tyre which caused my 1st puncture after 26k kms...
Later me and my pillion laughing, thinking what gonna happen if bike lost control on such speed..
Hats off to the GS who brought me home safely...
Credit goes to 149 kg kerb weight...
