The chain loosens coz of hard acceleration....unlike pulsars & fz's our gs has full chain cover..so the "tak tak" sound is of the chain which is hitting the chain cover...go to any local mech he will tighten the chain for say 10-15 rupees. also u can do the job urself...just google it

I bet u GS is way better than the pulsar....its far better in the hills trust me...i've driven hills with pillion using 4-5th gear...never had any problem...

    • hey thanks for the suggestion bt i've been going to the service centre for like two months now..even though the chain is tuned it gives me such sounds..two days back i again went there and the mechanic over there opened up the front sprockets too and cleaned up everything..he turned the front sprocket to the opposite direction(i mean he flipped it to the other direction) and then put it back..checked the chains and the sprockets and said everything should be fine now..but again the sound continues..and abt the chain loosening its just been around a week that i adjusted my chain and again the sound is coming from the chain cover...though i've been using the bike in eco mode since a month to see if it sounds the same as even i've been thinking the chain might be loosening because of my hard revvings..

Well regarding you pulling up the hills most probably the bike is very much tuned for mileage or try power mode if it pulls fine. If not well Chain is one thing i will agree with you GS has a tendency to have a loose chain in like 10-15 days and it is best to get it tightened. See if the sprockets are fine that is in good condition usually the Bike chain is similar to Cycle chain to tighten it up same procedure. GS has the chain cover so makes it difficult to clean it up but in same time reduces the time to clean overall as well.

Well Hard revving will definitely loosen the chain more quickly so i will say get a local mechanic and ask him what the issue is then go to SVC and get it fixed simple if you don't want the local guy to mess it up. This has worked for me well till now.

p.s Motul 3000T done so far 30Kms so current status Shell advance was awesome in terms of Gears too smooth so hopefully Motul comes to terms quickly.

        • hello guys
          long tym,
reading the posts almost daily..felt really bad as, some non gspian intrudes and comments ill about our worthy machine..

i too have a oct 09 gs ,,reading some 7900 kms on odo.
i'm getting pretty good fuel efficiency,,according to my low revving driving style ..
i don't like to rev the motor hard evey tym(45-55 kmph speed) ,,excluding rare overtaking situations,,

i cant get the ,,"piston change procedure" being undertaken by some fellow gspians ..
please kindly let me know the symptoms to identify the roughness of engine/ harshness..
according to my ears,,, the is some, valve/timing chain loosening related noise ..(faint tik tik sound) rest engine noise is same as before after 7900kms and same spark plug and using gulf 4t pride.,,oil rockss still going strong..(highly recommended),..
if these are anyhow related to replacement issues (symptoms) ...please helpppp.

          • @performator good to see at last someone from delhi well it is not that every GS 09 model needs a replacement first try to complain about it in Suzuki website and tell about engine roughness only if you feel there is some issue. Since so many people are talking about Engine issue that those who don't have it also are feeling they might have it which is not surprising. Any way i used gulf as well it is pretty good oil ran for 3k kms now shifted to Motul since it is also JASO MA2 same as Gulf will try it out.

Any way which Suzuki SVC are you servicing your GS in Delhi?

hey there...i live in a place where i have to climb uphill and go through plains as well...i live in between from where the hills start and if i start going downwards a few kms then its totally plain...my place is like at the foot of a hill..so i have to travel both hills and the plains..and if i dont rev much then really cant climb the hills...if i drive in eco mode as the bike says while climbing uphill, then i wont even be doing 40kmph..so gotta rev a lil..if a bike cant even resist this much pressure then i dont think it can be called as a gud one..trust me the pick up while climbing uphill is really gross...this is my third bike...hd never experienced this kind of problem i must say..but for plains it is the best bike ever made.

hey there may be u ride in a plain area try uphill steep slopes with other bikes too..no complaints with sound vibration and anything else just the pickup..useless for climbing hills..but for plains, its like u r flowing with the air..no sound of engine no vibs..only the air flowing through ur face..

                  I agree with adi, performater
I dont find any probs in climbing hills @ 4-5th gears as well..
i dont know what is there with you.
i can only say is that, use power band of bike means change gears around 4500-5000RPM, then i am sure u ll find the surge

                    • @segagt i think just check up if the bike is able to climb hills in power mode easily if it is try to ask the SVC or local mech to tune the bike to have better pick up. I have never faced this issue since i have been riding more flyovers now days thanks to commonwealth games most of the time :P any way just check if the local mech can fix the chain and try to see of the throttle is jamming this can be a issue as well next time when you go to SVC tell them the throttle is jamming and tell them to do proper oiling. This will improve the response greatly believe me this is my personal experience.

p.s @ vensan any specific reason why you want to sell it ? Also this is not the appropriate thread for asking about a Price quote but GS if you are in bangalore should sell at a good price since more GS run in Bangalore.

@adi: i mostly go to MD motors gaziabad, only once went to bittoo suzuki to purchase the s (suzuki) logo ..of the tank,,some crap tried to peel it off and tore it.
MD motors fellow are good ,,have 2-3 good mechanics ,good friendly behaviour and no rush and waiting time,,jus go anny day any tym and get ur beast serviced ,washed and polished. they r running a scheme of extended warranty programme for those who have outrun their warranty period , providing 6 services at the cost of rs 700 for gs ,500 for zeus , access, heat.

                              +1..
for me, gs struggles to pull with a pillion uphill/climb slopes..
even when i rev the bik near 6k rpm, oly the engine roars violently but nothing great in pulling power..this bike is purely made for highway/plains cruising and its very good at that..but when it comes to traffic/city/hills, it shows its weakness in handling/easy manoeuvring(in cities)/pulling(uphill) .. the difficulty in riding in traffic is mainly due to unbalanced and very heavy handlebar character and partly due to its weight and average low end power band..(all in my point of view)
By the way, motul 15w50 semi syn oil is getting better day by day.. using it since last 4 days.. now the bike feels better than with sc oil.. the reason i went with 15w50 is 20w40 doesnt seem any good..(tried 3 different brands including sc oil).. after this oil, if 15w50 doesnt seem good even after covering 3-4k kms in future, i am planning to go for some good brand 20w40 synthetic.. or if this 15w50 works better in coming months, i am planning to go for motul 300v 15w50..
Also, i am going for the fazer fairing , K&N, NGK spark plugs next week.. shortlisted a shop in hyderabad where they do these mods..Regarding fitting these mods, any other mods are required to be done for these?
I need to increase only the low end power with the help of K&N(and ofcourse to have that wonderful note).. for this, any upjetting & Fuel/air valve adjustments are required? please help.. I believe the fazer fairing will release the handle bar from the GS doom and instrument console weight and make it more easy to ride in traffic(99% of my ride is in hyderabad traffic. thats the reason i am going for this 'fazer fairin mod')..
please, experts here help me with these mods .. I badly need these mods to make my driving through the f*****g hyderabad traffic

As we always we say go with a oil grade ending with 40 (example 10w-40 or 15w40 or 20w 40
almost couple of months back i went to tirupathi hills with a pillon and its a cool ride
you can also try motul 3000 4T Plus 20W40 mineral or gulf mineral

by the way whats on your odo (kms covered)
