I wish such gear lever replacements are also done for RTR-160 bikes. It seems we are a forgotten lot for the company.

Guys.. This is incorrect... All rtr manufactured after 2013 will directly be eligible for the free upgrade... Check in with them and have it reported to tvs directly...

Both 160/180 are eligible for the new upgrades if bike is under warranty and are needed to pay if not.

P.S: gear lever replacement might cost around 800 bucks according to SVC mech.

In Bangladesh, we can see TVS RtR 150 with same look as RTR 160. However in apache website, we dont see any 150cc RTR? Now my friend is saying it is a 160 he got, however i can see it says 147.3cc on engine fins. Why apache has such confusing information and online support?

i have a 2010 rtr180 doing service very well but a 4k rpm some smoke comes out from silence of my bike. after some time engine oil level goes down, some oil is burns out,i think so. my rtr180 has done 43k kilo meters. please advise me is there any serious problem? what i should do. bike is perfect otherwise, good pick-up,good average,. engine oil level reduction and smoke is main problem. smoke coming out is not black but it is white.

there is problem with rtr180. tvs must keep some differences in look of rtr160 and rtr180. look wise both bikes are same, it gives a very bad feeling to rtr180 owners. public in general do not understand difference between two bikes. very easily head light fitting might be changed, engine size might be changed to show difference,. some must be done by tvs.

White smoke means oil burning..Change oil. What oil do you use normally & at what intervals do you change?
I would suggest to stick with Semi-synthetic oils like Shell AX7 (10w40) and change whatever oil between 2.5k~3k km.

I dont suppose you can get any bike above 150cc in Bangladesh... so if he is in bangladesh and unless he has sourced 160rtr parts its a 160. if it says 147 on the fins its a 150 unless he had it bored out... same looks as a 160 here... but you guys have to stick with 150;s

Engine is burning oil... rings are probably shot...bore piston replacement here you come... also can be a valve issue but highly unlikely out of the blue at 40+k kms I suspect its the bore. Spend some moolah get bore piston valves timing chain etc replaced.... cheaper yet not advisable option is to go for a rebore...(un advised since not all our mechs and tuners are joel and they screw up the bore job...) time to get modding or restoring the engine.

Sad news ! A month ago i put up a post telling i was going to rebore my engine after 40k kms ! Rebore is done , i completed run in and now running 2k kms and 3rd oil change ! but i kept hearing a noise from the engine and my mechanic tells it could be the connect rod play noise ! its not too much as of now , bike performs well and everything. On a worst case scenario what could be the problems i would face because of this ? and if its serious how long would i have :P ? The rebore job was good , he mentioned there is some play on the connect rod but i did not take it serious then :\ .

Piston slap, premature bore Wear, crank wear, bearing failures etc..... in due time... why the f.... did he not look ibto the cause when he saw a little play...:banghead: run it as long as you can. Hopefully it wont do much harm... I see a big overhaul after 10 to 15k kms... next time go for a lot of parts change... todays mechs are utter crap... oldies worked on the old pRpart's ts and made them usable... today mechs screw them up... better to let them just bolt on new parts:banghead:
Im sorry bro If I have sounded harsh.

Just go for a 20w50 oil with a bottle of engine oil treatment for now and observe... does the white smoke stop? Then a set of new piston rings can last you another 5k kms or so... but you will need a complete overhaul soon

Not a problem bro so as of now if i don't want all these to happen , what should i do ?? should i change the connecting rod and piston pin ?? what else to help this from not happening?

First of all give your mechanic a good kick at his back, he has already messed the enginem the play in the connecting rod will eventually get more, changing only connecting rod will do more harm as the piston is already set according to this play, so just keep riding and whenever next you go for engine rebuild, change the complete crankshaft assembly.

Frankly speaking I really doubt whether they have changed the engine oil.
Get oil changed in front of your eyes from a local mechanic.
I would suggest not to experiment much with engine oil stock grade which is 10w30. So dont go above '10' in 10wX. If you are staying in cold area or the winters are cold then that it will effect your bike again. If you stay in a very hot area then you should go 10w50. But again 50 grade is available in fully synthetic oils only, which is again prone to oil level drops and will require periodic top-ups.
So stick with 10w40. Your best bet it Shell Ax7 or any semi synthetic oil with the same grade.
First do this and see whats the effect. If you still see smoke then your piston must have gone wrong.
