very true indeed.. this for sure will show clearly your problem to the TVS guys..

Also noticed that the ilde RPM, which is at 1.4k at start, goes to 2K+ on very hot conditions & lots of stop-n-go traffic. This makes the bike harsh and vibey. I think this is a 'character' of RTR (name for unsolvable glitch)!
As you said, the RTR loves cool weather and is very smooth. Someone here, any solution??

      • Jerk/lag in rtr 180

        Hi guys,
I bought my rtr 180 3 months back from Kiran TVS, Hyderabad. The vehicle was running good till before the 2nd servicing which I promptly gave for servicing in the first week of september at kiran workshop. I had the following complaints:
        1) gear issues-gear automatically falling back to the previous gear and also under hard breaking the gear gets stuck and unable to downshift.
2)Have this jerk/lag issues. Under constant speed say at around 3-4k rpm there is a sense of lag between my throttle and response. It feels like to accelerate under braking if you know what I mean.

The SVC guys told they fixed the problems and I had no issues for 2 days and again the problems started creeping up with now with the addition of vibrations and some other minor issues like screeching noise with the rear disc brake and noise when I reverse my bike. I couldn't take the bike immediately because I go to work and depend heavily on my menace(with all the telangana bandh every alternate day ).

So I take it to them on saturday 17th sep and ask them to look into the matter which they did. The guy who serviced my bike looked to have no experience who told me that I have vibrations because I drive the bike "rashly" . After that to my horror when the guy puts the stand and put it in 1st gear my whole bike started to shake because the engine mounts were loose!! And when I asked what about the jerk/lag he didn't know what to do and after some time he said he fixed the issue (I couldn't see what he did because I was told to wait in the waiting area and I didn,t ask what he did (I know it was wrong on my part )). He also adjusted the clutch play a bit and also the gears were smoother and the clutch was tight in the sense it didn't feel loose like before. However by evening it was back to square one with jerk/lag issue. I take it to the SVC, now the guy who attended my bike in the morning bought along another guy who looked more experienced. He drove my bike and said the issue was with spark plug and they didn't have a stock now and told to come on another day.

So I went on Thursday gave my bike (braving the bandh call) told the supervisor the problem who gave me a minor job card and told it will be ready by afternoon. I didn't get my bike till the next day evening when my brother went to pick it up. At first the supervisor was telling him that they replaced the spark plug and when my brother insisted on a bill for replacement they were evasive saying there is no need for bill since it is under warranty . After my brother called me up and gave the phone to the supervisor, I talked tough with him and he said they didn't replace the spark plug after all and they merely cleaned it .

Now after all this hungama the bike was good for just 2 days and the same jerk/lagging problem has started again and the throttle response is sluggish and very unlike rtr. The clutch feels some what loose in the sense it is very easily able to de-clutch.

Now if I analyse the problem I see the following solutions
        1) The spark plug may have been the problem after all and also some carb tuning may be required.
2)There might be some problem with the clutch plate??(Need experts opinion on this). Every time the SVC guy adjusts the clutch play or what ever it is called it gets some what better before getting worse

I plan to go to the SVC this weekend again. What should my approach be. Should I get aggressive with them or be patient and then complaint to the higher authorities if they dont fix it this time?

But one thing is for sure they lied to me that replaced the spark plug and that makes me wary of trusting them and I am really disappointed with this problem because its irritating to ride a bike with this kind of a problem that was promised to be much more that what it is now. Some one please advice and keep the ideas and theory floating and I hope the problem that I am facing is not as serious as @Sai Pranav 's though the max I touched was 90kmph at around 7k with this problem.

        Thanks in advance

        • Can answer a few for you though I ride the Apache RTR 180
False neutrals exist but they are very very rare.
Tyres are tubeless and are indeed TVS Srichakra
          No DC electricals I think

2.inconsistant mileage......even with very sane riding max 60 km/h shifting below 4k rpm once i got 45 kmpl and another time i got 35 kmpl.i repeat very sane riding i have got these figures..

3.some trrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound comes near the key after the bike crosses 4k rpm.and its not keychains fault.

            • False neutrals are very rare, almost negligible. So, don't count it in the list to be worry about

Tyres, yes they're tubeless. In the ABS version, I don't exactly know if they've changed the tyres or not. Some people say yes they're changed but to me, it doesn't make any sense. Reason being that "skidding" is the reason for which the Srichakra tyres are being disliked. But with the ABS, the wheels aren't gonna get locked, so, the skidding won't happen (With the ABS module switched ON, obviously )

Yes, the ABS version got fully DC electricals.

About the A.S.S. (after sales service is what I wrote ), I think the Mum/Pune guys can comment better.

Just mail the whole post ditto to the officials. There's no point in SVC guys being so careless about our bikes even to the extent that they started telling lies. Make sure that they get some beating for that.

About the lag issue, I think your bike needs carb tuning or draining. It doesn't seem to be a clutch plate issue. If it would've been, you'd get the feel of it while de-clutching itself. Also, there's no way that the clutch plate would be all done in such small period. Better first get the bike properly tuned and if the problem still persists, then only move to the electicals like checking the TPS, TCI etc.. The spark plug going kaput is also almost NOT probable.

                • @psr, gixxer junkie, drifty,nox2505 and evryone else who tried to solve my problem:

As most of you suggested, the problem was indeed with the spark plug, i asked them to replace the old spark plug with the general spark plug and now my bike is rev happy.
But what surprises me is that these people dont know anything about bike repairing, they are just trained to do stuff like air filter cleaning etc,...
The problem would have never been solved if i gixxer junkie did not point out that my spark plug looks odd because that is what made me go and buy a new one. These people were still adamant that spark plug is not the problem...

Thanks a lot to everyone for helping me out. I'm never going to TVS again...

                    1) I too had the handle bar wobbling problem. took it to all the TVS SVC i could and finally Innovative tvs at bhandup said they need to align the forks on a lathe. Did that and now its steady even @ 80 kph.
                    2) Few pages back i had written about petrol leaking from the tank underside near fuel sensor. Get that checked if possible or open the side lockable panels and see for any orange streaks on the tank sides.
                    3) I don't know about the trr sound but if forks are out of alignment then that could be the cause.
                    4) I advised you earlier too to get it tuned by a good reputed mechanic. Everybody has said whatever needs to be said about SVC expertise.

                    Hope this helps.

Your bike is running lean AFR...in cold climate the air is dense and more oxygen is available for burning, and hence smoothness of engine...

Normally if the Air Fuel Ratio is set correctly the difference between cold and hot Idle RPM will be 300...If the AFR is set lean then ,under hot engine condition the difference will be more than 400 RPM.
A cold air is dense and contains more oxygen than a hot air, hence engine runs smoother..this is true even for cars.

                        • Performance & Handling..& MAINTAINENCE.

I as Previously told that I am using the bike for 1.4years. Almost 20K done.
I had no single issue with the bike. As I service regularly. My Friend is A Mechanic & we both service my bike thoroughly.
Changing Bike Oil for every 4000Km.
At 6000K I changed my rear disc pads, but after that till today they are good.
I had a issue with rear disc sounding kin-kee but the it was found that the TVS service guy had not properly fitted the rear-wheel.
I have a OKS chain lube & I lube my chain almost every 10 days. Bike is smooth.
Vibs r the issue but they are less now.
TVS Shreechakra tyres were never issue for me. I Had leaned my bike on the wets & on dry road. It is mostly depended on Road condition. Braking is under-confident but brake simultaneously & slowly you will gain ur confidence back.
And when it rains heavily don't drive beyond 50kmph, brake it you will surely stop with confidence.
Wobbling was a issue as many of them said. Check out if due to Vibs your bikes parts must have loosen. Tighten them. Check air-pressure. Wobbling will be gone.

Just 1 thing I am going to ask..
How u guys check out your Lap-Timers??
I Haven't checked out once. What to see there??
                          Tell Me.

Vibs during the day time when its very hot is bcoz, metal get expand when heated & contracts when cooled..Think on this & you will surely understand what I mean..

The 'trrrrrrrrrrrr' sound msotly originates from the fairing and handle bar clamp on which the RTR logo sits.I had added rubber dampers in the fairing and the sound is gone forever.
