  • Hello there people,

I'm a glad new owner, got my bike delivered on Dec-07-2012 and it's about 1400 KM on the Odo, of a beast with ABS. Everything running on stock parts. I think I made a foolish thing though. I didn't wait for the run-in period to end. I took the beast above 100 after crossing the 450 mark on the Odo. I believe there is nothing wrong with the beast but I do feel a lack of 'feel' when doing 80-upper speeds. Mileage is around 40-45 kmpl and I do try to keep the tires in the comfort zone given in the manual, ie., front- 25 and rear- 32 psi. There is a bit, really just a bit, of vibrations when doing 40-60 kmph, but I'm very fine with it as on higher speeds the vibration seems to adjust better.

Sometimes I do get a slipping gear. Is it because there's something wrong with the gear settings? Pardon me for the lack of right terms used, as I've not owned a bike till this one.

Could you describe this "lack of feel"? The RTR doesn't have an exceptional top end. But I've always found it competent till 105-110kmph. After this it loses the zing in acceleration. But that's expected, as it's reaching its top speed. Gear slips are normal. It means the clutch cable freeplay isn't properly tuned. Nothing is wrong with your bike. Even the occasional 100kmph in the run in is helpful.

By lack of feel I meant I lose the sensation that the bike's running in that speed. I feel like there's not much response from the engine and I often suspect if the Speedo is deceiving me. May be I need to get accustomed to the feel.

Noticed that happen a lot. Bike jumps to reach 80-90 speeds, but then it, kind of, lags.

Can I adjust this myself? Or do I have to take it to the SC?

Thank you for the advice. I was very worried if the bike is alright or not, even though I'm to blame as I couldn't control the urge.

Also the engine seems to be too hot after a ride. After looking at some people's responses, it seems that it's a common profile of RTR.

Hmm. If, and only if, the response seems too slack, get the TPS checked.

          This is general behavior.

You can do it yourself too. Check the service manual, there's information regarding this.

Actually no. Where did you read this? Have you checked engine oil levels? Your bike is still setting in at 1400km. Wait for 3k-4k km. The over heating should subside. For now, please check engine oil level.

I've not checked the oil level yet. Was about to check it by today or tomorrow as I heard about an incident from my friend where some employees of a Honda showroom not changing the oil for the first service, by using used oil to top-it-up after replacing the oil in new engine and reselling it out of shop. I was worried if the TVS SC people have done it right or not. Also my friends say it's better to change oil by yourself or by a mechanic, rather than in SC. Also the TVS SC charged me for oil, oil filter and 'service parts'. Though the amount was only Rs. 375, I felt betrayed as other manufacturers do the first service for free.

For gear slips you can manually try and adjust the clutch free play directions are in the manual. The SVC guys (here at least) don't leave any free play, so every time I get it serviced, I have to check free play. Actually even I had gear slips, this solves it I'm sure.

Edit: I don't think they cheated you, and the free refers to three labour charge and not the oil/parts...

Lol. Where did you hear this? All manufactures charge for consumables. Only labour is free. I can vouch for that. I have owned vehicles from 4 different manufacturers.

Yeah! It was my misunderstanding. I just confirmed it with my friend. He asked the SC not to change the oil and he, at an outside workshop, had it changed as he doesn't trust anything that he doesn't see. He had the SC do a check up and rectify the alignment and all. He asked me to change it myself from next service onward. Also my father frowned upon me hearing that they charged me for oil. He used to ride a GLX and said he didn't pay for anything for the first service.

Stick to the TVS oil till 5k km. Please. TVS people are not fools to recommend an oil that isn't good for the bike. Change to a different oil after 5k km. When the SVC will change oil why bother doing it yourself. Just make sure they do change it. CHeck oil level before you leave the SVC.

Of course, I'll stick to TVS oil, but I think I can buy it from them and have another mechanic change it while I can see and be satisfied?! Anyways I have to pay for it.

As long as it's TVS oil, change it any which way.

                        • Won't the SVC change oil in front of you? Its a 10minute job, why are you hell bent on getting it from other outside mechanic. Why not stay there in svc during the servicing and point out what all you want.

What they do at the SVC here is they ask you to get the bike there before 9.00 or they will push the delivery to next day. They will ask you for any complaints or suggestions and that's it. You may go back and get the bike after 4.30-5.00 PM. I believe the workshop is out of bounds for customers. Anyways, I will try asking them the next time.

And Shahbaz63's comment above makes me little more uncomfortable. I think my bike too has a pull to the left. I'll get it checked as soon as possible. I tried hands free and it did pull me left, at above 60 kmph.

Looks like there's two problems my friend :
                                1.Wheel alignment is off. Definitely.
2.I think your rear wheel is the culprit.

It high time you got out of the SVC bro. Ask around and get to a good mechanic. For a manic rider like you, the buggers at any SVC are of no use.
