Go to snapdealdotcom search for "Speedwav".. you will find a filter for Rs 300 with a name of "Speedwav-HP Bike Air Filter High Performance for All Bikes 42mm".. Buy it.. Fix it to the carb. Tune the carb.(2-3 turns must do).. & now you have a loud sounding RTR with better throttle response & no chocking at all..
Thanks for the info..What about the FE..?? will it reduce badly?? I am getting 40kmpl now...

The filters are some what like a turbo charger of diesel cars..It gives you more power & roar after a certain rpm (like 4 or 5k rpm) or if you just twist the throttle really swiftly.. When you ride in the rpm where the filter roar is present your FE will drop a bit(least I've seen is 36kmpl of city ripping) or if you ride sedately you get the same FE a before..
I recently got 44.3 kmpl of sane city riding & mostly get 38-40 kmpl on highway doing 96-105 kmph.. The idle rpm are a lot more stable & easily pick the bike from stand still without any throttle..

A mere air filter will do nothing to performance, at least nothing that the rider would notice, apart from just a roaring sound that makes one 'feel' that bike is going fast.

          @arjunv212 :
          1. Filters : Just filters in carb-d bikes would do more bad than doing good.
          2. Joel's FFE : Does good and will work better with his air filters. Just do scheduled check up of your bike after that.
          3. Modifying Filter : I still dont understand why people want to hamper the bike's life just for sound. If they are so bent for sound, start saving and get an inline four for sound
          4. Any changes in filter and you will screw the carb and its settings.

@vivekgautams : It might be risky using such filters which are a knock off of original K&N/Simota etc. I hope you have done the right jetting for the carb or you there will be serious engine problems in future. Needless to say, using original K&N itself causes countless problems if carb is untouched.

@arjunv212 : I would strictly recommend you to stay away from all the three mods you have stated. All of them reduce bike reliability and will surely cause problems in long run. Trust me, the new exhaust note & all sounds exciting in the beginning but later you get used to it. You will feel bored with it!
The FFE would be the safest bet among the three though if you really want to change exhaust note.
This coming from a guy who has used RC FFE along with other parts for more than a year!

@sambit : The old RTRs are back in production since a couple of months TVS realized their mistake quickly!

I meant that the filters start to 'roar' or come to life(performance or sound) after certain rpm like a turbo kicking into action after a certain rpm.. & surely did not compare the performance of a turbo to a puny air filter what so ever..

              Adarsh_Bk
, the paper filter is better than the stock sponge..The bike is getting sufficient air & has been tuned(AF mixture) correctly..

Lol man! You must be tvs racing division tuner. You are, right?

On a serious note a turbocharger is a forced induction technique and upgrading a filter is well, nothing.
Its just upgrading your filter man. It would be wrong to say that a good filter would not give you more power but for that you would need more fuel (bigger jets in case its a carb bike) as well to mix with the extra air the filter would provide.
No amount of tuning a stock carb would be sufficient for the required fuel, one needs to upjet(read bigger jets).
Even after going through all the hassles and provided the jetting and tuning job is done good, still don't expect your rtr to outrun say a p220. All this while compromising on your bikes reliability.

I am actually rolling on the floor laughing. I actually thought that you would know what a filter does, you proved me wrong.
A mere filter at any given rpm will not give any performance bump to such a small engine of our bike.
And yes it will "roar" (or make different sound) at all rpms.

The love and demand for the old RTR was too big. So yes, old models are back in production and selling well. I see many of them here in my place.
Tbh last year when I was gonna get my first bike, I had shortlisted both 200NS & RTR and had to choose between the two. Utterly impressed with NS, I then decided to check out RTR series, got to ride the 160 as a pillon (didn't know how to ride motorcycles then) and it put a big grin on my face. Only thing I couldn't stand about the new models was it's awful front headlamp assembly, and they absolutely didn't have the good old models in stock anymore. Otherwise I could've been an owner of the RTR as it costs like 10k or so lesser than NS while being a terrifiic performer. But now I think the new design just takes abit of getting used to, it does look abit next gen and the fit & finish, attention to detail seems better than the old model. I'd pick the new one if I was given a choice today. But then I already have my NS :P

                        Pros:
Very strong motor(best performance in its class)
                        Good brakes
Excellent handling(get it a nice set of rubber)
                        Cheap to maintain
                        Bassy and rorty exhaust note

                        Cons:
A little cramped for tall riders.
                        Vibrations vibrations and more vibrations.
                        Bad stock tvs rubber

If you can get a p220 I would suggest one over the apache. Keep in mind, the handling would not be as good but decent.

Good brakes And Boy I was impressed with it's braking. . .
Excellent handling(get it a nice set of rubber) Yup that's true, stock tires aren't good for the bikes. . .
                          Cheap to maintain Really . . ?
Bassy and rorty exhaust note Though I love my silent roar of my unicorn which hardly makes any sound, I was quite happy with the sound of the RTR180. . .

                          Cons:
A little cramped for tall riders. No probs, I am 5'8". . .
Vibrations vibrations and more vibrations. That's the worst part, I HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT. . .
Bad stock tvs rubber Did observe that as well. . .
The above reviews were done day before yesterday on my frnd's bike, it's the new RTR180, boy I would like to tell that the really quick throttle response put a big smile on my face, the brakes were excellent n will come to an halt quickly. . . I was comfortable with the position as well; however, the bike looked a bit big for my build as the front tank scoops were like too much extending and also wasn't happy with the tires and the vibrations, I was really frustrated with it, even at speeds around 40-60kmph, the bike vibrates like hell but my friend said that the bike doesn't vibrate at high speeds, I was like how the hell is it possible. . ? I think may be cos of his heavy build or he was kidding me. . .

This is my ride experience on the latest RTR180, wanna know if anything can be done to the vibrations, changing of tires, definitely I can do it by putting in the best tires but even after that I do get vibrations then it is annoying for me. . . Yes, I do wanted to go for 220 but thought why not make a comparison between the two first. . . BTW Thanks for your info. . .

Maintainance cost would definitely be less than your unicorn that I can guarantee.

And using synthetic oil the vibes can be reduced a little but don't expect a world of a difference. It won't even be as smooth as say a p220 forget the unicorn level of smoothness. And I understand that your friend loves his bike but no way vibes are going to lessen with more speed. That is not happening. You coming from a bike which has a mill as smooth as it gets, the apache would torture you.
A very good bike not being helped by its vibey engine.

RTR vibration range is between 4k-5k rpm, which personally I felt is nothing too dangerous or unbearable.
After that rpm range, the vibrations are much lesser.
I have been riding one since 2 years & I have ridden my friends unicorn.
I didnt feel the vibrations are too much that u will eventually loose your balance & fall bcoz of it.
Make use of Shell AX7 10w40 semi synthetic oil, the engine vibrations will b little more reduced.
Then tighten most of the engine parts which can also decrease the vibrations to an extend.
Yes its not a smooth vehicle, but who said RTR is smooth.
RTR means Racing Throttle Response & it stands by it in all means.
No rev happy engines are smooth as commuter vehicles. You can redline RTR unlike any other vehicles in its segment.
If you are looking for a smooth ride I suggest you stay with your unicorn bcos thats the best in class.
Both the options you suggested, i.e. P220 & RTR are performance oriented vehicles which are bond to vibrate at certain RPM levels.
Even the great Bullets do vibrate when riding in speed greater than 100kmph. Now sorry I dont want to spark any debates on bullets, but thats what I felt when I rode one & thats what auto reviews also suggests.
Atleast I didnt feel that much vibration while riding my RTR around 125+ speed.
But if you are looking for something rough & tough & performance oriented vehicle rather than FE, RTR is the best bet.
I hope you will make a better decision.
                              Cheers!!

My bike doesn't make me spend so much, just proper time oil change and also general servicing is keeping it fit even though it has already run 47+ kms and still not all believe that my bike has run that much. . . I can maintain the bikes but the thing is I need the bike to be good. . . Yup you are right, I don't think so then I would like to opt it out, if there was a
solution I would had made it but if that's a permanent problem, then no ways I am gonna live with it , then it leaves to me to go for the 220f. . .
