Visible smoke from exhaust and oil on engine casing upon removal of lower fairing.

It is available in Chennai, but I do not know of Delhi.....If you want to play safe during your tour, try the FS much before the tour and ride at 80~90 Kmph for at least 100 kms to know ...otherwise stick to mineral oil of 15W40 or 20 W40..and try FS after the trip...
You should check for both external leaks and oil consumption by monitoring the oil level.

          ..
If the Valve door nut, or gear shift oil seal or Drive shaft oil seals leaks, ...or worst case scenario if your bike starts to emit bluish white smoke at high RPM you know that you have external and internal oil leakage.

At 9,500 Kms better to test with SS first and then ,if there are no leaks move on to FS.

Selecting an oil is a never ending search and a subject of much discussion..

The main points to look out for are..
            1. Type of oil...Mineral,SS,or FS...depending on run in, and engine's tolerance between moving parts.
            2. Grade of oil..depends on ambient....ambient below 0 degrees require 0 or 5 W,and above 10 C....10 or 15 w. The number next to the W to be selected as per Manufacturer and personal experience....
            3. Choose an oil with least Viscosity Index...the index denotes the difference in oil viscosity between 40C and 100 C Kinematic viscosity.
            4. Most oils will have same indicated viscosity at 100 C for a given grade after "W".
            5. Look at the 40 C number , and the difference with respect to 100 C value....the larger the difference, greater the oil's difference in viscosity with temperature.
            6. It is better to select an oil with lower Viscosity Index number since this denotes lesser change in oil's behavior from Cold to Hot condition
            7. Flash Point of oil...For Air Cooled engines better to select an oil with the highest number since the temperature of engine is dependent on air cooling and
likely to become high during summer and idling in traffic condition.
            8. Additives....Better to select an oil with some amount of ZDDP(Zinc DiAlkyl DithioPhosphate) which will protect the engine moving parts against wear...this can be assessed from the MSD of the oil.
Modern Gasoline(Petrol)oils have almost Zero ZDDP since over a long period of time it kills the cat con. The trade off is the Cat con is safe but the Drive train of Cam,Valves and bearing in the engine have higher wear and needs replacement sooner than before...In this context most Diesel oils have higher ZDDP.

Look for oil that does not have Friction modifiers ie., Molybdenum Disulfide ,which will lead to clutch slip.

            Hope this is helpful..
Thanks for the inputs sir , a long list to check in oils , any idea is Shell AX7 satisfies the check list or not ?

If it is then which grade to go ? 10W30 is recommanded by Hero .

I liked it for a couple of months and then started missing the noise free ZMR so i changed back to stock filters.. Can you tell me how the UNI filters are?? is it available for online purchase?? else tell me more about Simota and is it available for purchase online?? pls let me know the cost too.. if its out of budget.. might not even try to go for it as i need to save money for an upcoming Bike Tour
I would stay away from UNI cause of maintainance. I've done 10k kms on my simota without any much maintainance and performance too i've described.. But avoid custom made filters, and such stuffs if your knowledge regarding them is limited. Your Bike is a gem as it is. Avoid doing stuffs with it if you are not sure. Anyway simota costed about 2.5k exact including labour. Net was down so sorry for the late reply.

The thing about re-usable conical filters are that, they are'nt really re-usable.

This pic was taken the day I bought the filter.

This pic was taken after a few months from purchase, and it gets better this is the result even after washing multiple times in warm soap water and carefully rinsing it, just like the instructions provided by Cosworth.

Thats when I did a research on the same and found out that the pores in these kinda filters, get enlarged after every cleaning cycle, meaning it lets in more dirt as you keep on re using it.

Now about the custom filter, its made by a company named ArrowHead, it holds its own reputation among Indian motor enthusiasts. And it also makes OEM filter for cars, trucks, 3 wheelers etc.

Here is the tech spec regarding the Kinematic Viscosity and the Viscosity Index....note the high V. Index and closer values between 40C and 100 C spec...
Choose 10W40 for superior ride experience...
Shell 4T AX7 10w40 is a highly refined mineral oil..

here is the additive info on Shell AX7 10w40...the oil contains 1~3% Calcium and also ZDDP 1~2 %, which is good for the engine's drive train..

                      Really Bro ?? 133 kmph??
My ZMR stops dead @ 120 kmph....
I know many factors do matter, but to tell you I do not even need to engage the entire throttle to get to 120 kmph, and then the speedo stops there.
Please mention any mods you have performed on your ZMR...

If its just for some short term hoo-haa then go for it, but if you're planning for the long run then I'd suggest you go with UNI.
I still have my Cosworth with me, planning to use it in my Kiney when she gets back home from the mech.

Anyways, it has 4 horses extra at its disposal, so it is faster (top end wise). But, its no rocket science understanding how P220 riders claim to have done 145 kmph.

Hi ashwin, but I think the UNI filter needs more maintenance than the Cosworth if I am not wrong. So only I am planning to get it. Someone quoted that the bike requires more care during water wash than the Cosworth. Also sand can get in the engine during usage of the UNI. Not my thought. Someone had told this some 2 pages back in this thread

Agree wid u. I'm glad someone shares same thoughts as that of mine.
My post was just an addition to the top speed claims or getting stuck at x kmph kind of posts. I love riding at 90-100 kmph on the highways because that's 80% of the engine's capacity.
I follow the 80% rule. Though sometimes I hit 115 odd and it's then when I try hitting 125 kmph.
