Here are some links to clear the confusion on using Shell diesel oils in gasoline engines..... see the picture of the inside of a bike engine ...do you see excessive wear ? Look at the Piston for deposits....and the engine had done 100K Kms as per the post...
Ultimately it is your call..if you don't feel comfortable with Shell diesel oils in your engine, then don't go for it.

There are very few people who do their homework despite having enormous amount of knowledge. Still, they take precautionary steps when suggesting some "not-so-normally-done" by people. Hence, when psr sir said that "Rimula CAN be put in a Karizma, but let me complete 1500 kms on it, then I'll give a nod......", I waited for sometime until he reported having done 1100 kms on it. My oil change was due, had a discussion with him and BLING! I'm running on my second Rimula change now.

well yes, it's an individual decision & one should choose on his own..

There is no concrete evidence that a Diesel heavy vehicle oil can cause problems to Petrol motorcycles when the oil does not include friction modifiers.. However there is also no concrete evidence that it wont cause any damage to the engine parts in the long run , specifically due to the way a diesel oil is formulated & also due to the additive types.. While many bikers claim to have used diesel oils without any issues, many advanced mechanics on the other hand advice against that.. So it is bit of a gamble, or may be a calculated risk.. One should take it if he is ready; & if taken, then no point being a cry baby..

Personally i am not too convinced on using many oils with those so called motor biking certifications.. you pay a damn premium for them, but you still feel like changing the oil even before leaving the parking lot... that is the precise reason i wanted to try Rimula R4 & am still running on it.. Would change the oil only when i find another one worth the money..

                          .
If the oil composition due to changing Euro norms had not taken place, I would not have looked for an alternate to JASO MA grade...It is well known fact that the ZDDP and Calcium are good for the engine in reducing wear and esp ., in Engines with higher stress , and Loading on parts like in a Air Cooled Motorcycle engine....The Diesel and Air cooled engines both have almost same kind of operational environment, and require good protective additives, which were being removed systematically by norms to protect the Catcon....forgetting the fact that the engine and it's moving parts need these additives for it's very working.....Hence the hunt for an oil with these additives landed me with Diesel oils...I did read up on it's use in other countries for more than 6 years without negative results....and saw many pictures of Engine insides with least wear at high ODO readings....this made me experiment and I did get good results...Still I made it a point to warn would be users of unknown problems yet to surface.....

Good to know that you are running on R4 and have acceptable results......

                          The Journey and search continues..

Nowadays I do that.. I was tired of pushing the bike for 2-3 kms.. this mostly happened during late nights.. rather Mid Nights when most of the fuel stations are closed..

Many of us including me are running on 55/60 watts Halogen as headlight bulb in our ZMA/ZMR without any problems....some have a slight darkening of reflector just above the bulb...but the light output is good at all times, which is safer for the night time driving
