Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Hmm, need some clarity here. Moreover, why are we asked to rev our bikes when the battery is dying down? I mean, I have seen most senior riders here revving the bike to 4-5k rpm for 30 sec or so before shutting it off. I know its bad - revving before shutting the bike, but apparently, battery does get charged to some extent so that it can crank once or twice again. In fact, I gave the same advice to another fellow who had a Pulsar and he's happy ever since (he rode 5-6 kms daily, that too under 50 kmph).Originally posted by psr View PostGot a $5 head? Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
When a battery looses it's charge due to non charging, the battery needs to be charged at max safe current till battery terminal voltage comes upto the float charge level.ie., for a 12 Volts battery, till it reaches 13.5 volts, after which the charging reduces in current to 1/10 value as top up charge....Originally posted by veryhiphop View PostSo it means charging start as ZMR starts....
What does this mean "It is the continued charge that is required by the Lead acid cell that makes the difference"....
Raising the throttle and running the engine at a higher RPM before switching off leaves residual petrol in the inlet...this helps in cold start within a few turns of the crank...Originally posted by Divya Sharan View PostHmm, need some clarity here. No amount of revving or long rides at higher RPM can revive a battery with bad cells..
Here is a useful link explaining the charge cycle....

Assuming that there is excessive carbon deposit & a burnt smell, It might mean there is oil leakage in to the combustion chamber due to damaged valve stem seals/piston rings; But in that case oil level should decrease way faster than it should.Originally posted by sibun View PostI would request you to do another test. While you have opened the spark plug just using a torch having pencil beam focus through the spark plug hole into the combustion chamber, if the piston is not at top then shift to fifth gear and slowly rotate the wheel till piston comes to top. Check the top of piston how is the carbon deposit, if it is thick then it is not allowing the heat from combustion chamber to get transferred to piston and finally to outside which is causing the problem, next keep on rotating the wheel and you will see the valves opening and check each valve for any pitting on the seat.
Moreover if tappets has been adjusted at ASC then get it checked with feeler gauge as those idiots would have tightened it too much.
These are just my suggestions, so please have a look at these.
@ abhi7013: The question is, are these symptoms there in your bike ? Are you noticing atleast decrease in oil level ?

Yamaha RD (The one which taught me what riding is; Can never forget this one)
Bajaj Caliber (The one closest to my heart; I still have it after 15 yrs !)

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
See, if the bike is running good apart from the Kat-Kat-rina sound, and like you mentioned the burning smell which points out a hot engine - I guess the timing could be a bit advanced. If so, there are 2 ways you can do it:Originally posted by Bibhudatta View Post@ sibun: Are you saying that this is engine knocking due to high compression? possible if there is excess carbon deposit inside the combustion chamber & piston. @ abhi7013: The question is, are these symptoms there in your bike ? Are you noticing atleast decrease in oil level ?
1. Adjusting the timing at the ASC
2. If the spark plug is old, replace the spark plug and keep the plug gap a bit more than the old one (ideal because you don't end up messing with the bike)
There are more than n number of troubleshooting options, so it's better if we start with the simplest one.
Off the track, does anyone have the workshop manual of the ZMR?

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Hi guys.... just changed the tire of my black beauty to pirelli 120/80-18 and the feel of the bike was awesome
And after a day my happiness died as i had a fall when i got hit by a car's mirror and lost control in traffic....
Its been a long wait (2 weeks n still waiting) to get my beauty back on road....... Im fine but my baby is badly hurt....
I want to know the cost of
1) front cowls(both left top(ZM),left bottom(R),right top(ZM) and right bottom(R))
2) Head light assembly
3) Rear brake lever
4) Front suspension cover (the golden colored)
5) Visor
6) Silencer guard/cover
How much can be claimed from insurance(National insurance)?
Its 2011 model ZMR
Also there was a disc oil leak in the front
I am also looking to up size my front stock tire(80/100) slightly
A few suggestions from you guys will be of great help....Last edited by Supreeeth; 09-04-2013, 07:12 PM.

"Basis of Indemnity Basis of Indemnity will be to the extent lost/suffered in terms of replacement value for the parts to be replaced in case of partial accidental damage with associated labour to be assessed by an Independent surveyor (relaxed for in-house surveyor within the estimate of Rs.20,000/-) keeping policy terms and codition in view. For total loss, market value determined by an independent surveyor will be the basis. For extensive damage which ultimately makes the repairing uneconomical may be considered for total loss to be derived by the independent surveyor. In such cases, the insured, if wishes, can retain the salvage and net amount can be disbursed towards total settlement."
Also, if you can, revert to the original tires for the time.....no idea if they could form the basis for denial of insurance.

coming to the insurance coverage, please check your insurance paper & premium amount. the coverage depends on that & coverage from the same company can vary as per the premium.. In my case the coverage is 100%.. but generally it is around 70-80%.. additionally also check what all things are covered.
your insurance company would already have a price for quite a few components & would negotiate with Hero SVC on the prices.. you are good if SVC agrees to their prices; else you would need to pay the extra amount from your pocket; the differential amount between SVC quote & insurance company quote.

Re: Hero Honda Karizma ZMR
Got into an accident. The audi in front of me put the hand break. Dunno what he was thinking. I hit his rear. We were doing about 30-40 kmph. He just drove away.
Now neither me nor the bike fell. But see the pics. The body is cracked. Found the broken piece on road and stuck it. The other piece I could not find. Any suggestions?
And ya. I feel the handling has worsened.

Am safe. And nothing happend to the wheel. If the fork is bent, can it be repaired? Ill have to check it thoroughly in the morning. And it was ful of traffic. Am lucky that the car behind me steered suddenly to his left to avoid crashing into me. If the fork bend can be removed then its fine. Its good that it happend before I gave for servicing. And the tone of the horns has changed a bit after the hit. Maybe one of them is bentOriginally posted by rreneav1987 View PostAs long as you are safe thank god...
