  • hello guys,i am robean from kathmandu. it has been almost 7 months since the first visit to this site.
i used to read this thread and learn about pulsar 220-fi problems and its solutions, and believe me i've learned a lot. Thanks to you all.
and now here's my problem. My brother bought this bike around 1 and half years ago,i dont know what mileage my brother got before going abroad for study, but its been around 4 months and i am getting 28 to 32 kms/ltr only.
And to be noted its fi version.i ve read many posts where they have discussed and posted that they get around 40-45kms/ltr depending on riding style.but isnt 30kms/ltr very low??ive cheked its co setting and the mechanic says its 2.8.
i only ride it in city, around the speed of 60-70 top.is it because i ride very little, may be around 10km daily?
i own a cyber cafe and my college is closed so i dont get to ride much.
hoping to get a better mileage and hope i get a good solution...
    Thanks in advance.

Mileage is dependent on a lot varying factors from air pressure, state of chain, filter life and what not.

Is there a ProBiking service centre you have access too? I would suggest showing your bike to them.

For the kind of riding conditions you mentioned you should get about 35-38 which is actually the average figure that everyone gets.

      • (Rear) Tyre Options

I am right now in a situation where I need to get a rear tyre as early as possible.

Have been observing that my rear bike's rear tyre pressure was coming down very quickly, to the likes of 11 psi sometimes.

Checked for puncture and could not find it at all, and finally found that the side walls where tyre touches the rims has problems and is leaking air slowly.

I am reaching the 30K kms mark, and still tyre's treads are fine, and would have gone 10K more for sure, but right now I am forced to change the rear tyre and should do it quickly.

I have read through posts and read that Vyde, IRC are good for road grip. I occassionaly do offroad and surely need one which is good during Rainy times (half of the time will be on water logged roads in Bangalore )

        @Praful,
Not sure but I guess I saw your bike at autoservice today; red bike with Sirac rear tyres ( I might have seen you too but not sure again )

        @all,
So can I get to know where I can buy one of these tyres(Vyde, IRC, Sirac) in Bangalore and also which one is the best (other options other than the 3 mentioned is also fine with me, as long as my conditions are met)

        • Fastest Indian P220F Review !

          About me :

Hi, I am Navjot Singh from Ludhiana. In September I got a new bike from my parents . This is a brand new Bajaj Pulsar 220 F misty silver !

          About Pulsar 220 F:

It is now 2 month old and till now running very good. I like its smooth and aggressive ride.

Total Kilometers till now: 4000 kms.

Maximum speed achieved till now: 138 km/h.

          Minimum average: 34 km/liters.

          Maximum average: 52 km/liters.

I am a college student doing B.E in computers. My daily usage is about 40 kms . Which is mainly on highways, therefore my driving conditions are easy and I easily achieved such figures !

          Engine:Suspension:

          Front: Telescopic, 130 mm stroke.

Rear: 5-way adjustable with 90 mm travel Nitrox shock absorber.

Suspensions are really good and do their Duty well. Highway driving is very impressive, thanks to stiffer suspension which suits best for highways and for city also. Front suspension is adjusted in very good manner that on hard braking bike does not lean too much to front to avoid rider imbalance during emergency barking.

          Brakes:

          Front: 260 mm Disc

          Rear: 220 mm Disc

Brakes are really good. Totally confidence inspiring. I follow 60% front and 40% rear brake pressure during stopping and brakes stops bike in no time. Really impressive. Though rear brake pads needs to replace very soon, on my visit to Bajaj service station I saw many people complained about the poor life of rear brake pads.

          Tyres:

Pulsar 220 F features soft compound tubeless IRC Tyres which are very responsive and very sticky. These tyres provide excellent grip on wet and dry roads. Pulsar 180 features MRF Zappers which are well known for their quality performance but in Pulsar 220 IRC tyres are on Duty, which I feel excellent on Roads. Soft compound tyres inspire confidence on corners during high speeds and under hard braking conditions .

          Electricals:

Pulsar 220 F comes with 55W ellipsoidal for high beam and 55W Projectors for Low beam. Headlights are 12 V 9V Full DC and are really effective. Produce whitish and bright light unlike other 2- wheelers which produce little yellowish lights.

Pulsar 220 is the first bike whose headlights really impressed me.

          Some Features of Pulsar 220 F : -

          1. Even at 3 digit speeds Pulsar 220 feels like cream. Any with a little twist one could feel the thrust of power.

          2. Very less affect of cross winds. Awesomely stable on highways.

          3. Speedometer shows battery low indicator, engine oil low level, engine over heat, oil cooler choke indicators. Dual trip meters and side stand indicators are good feature.

          4. 3D type decals look very appealing.

          5. Silencer with muffler for proper cooling and safety.

          6. Backlit switches looks cool and are of good quality. Self canceling indicates are boon.

          7. Auto coke is very responsive and helps easy cold starting.

          Maintenance:Final Words for pulsar 220 F :

U said the tyre is losing air near the rims, if the tread is fine , why go for a new rubber ? rectify the rim damage. Zapper vyde i could not find anywhere, IRC a strict no for me, sirac is my next option.

From what I have understood about tubeless tyres, once the tyre is damaged near the rims, they cant be corrected ; Unless someone can tell me it can be done , i will be quite happy to get it done

Once a tyre gets old, this ghost puncture story begins happening. 30K is way too long for this tyre to last, I'd like to know how you managed it

The way to figure out the issue is fill up air to the MAX after removing the rear tyre with the wheel. Then dip it in water to see where the leak really is. Additionally you can get the tyre removed and refixed once again to ensure the sealing with the side-wall is proper!

Yes, that must have been my bike as I dropped it off yesterday morning for a overhaul!

You get Sirac quite easily these days on JC road and Lalbagh road. The one place to definitely check is Sai Iyengar Tyres on Lalbagh Road. The price is 2.6K

Its nice to throw around terms like thermodynamics and CFD, but could be a little more clearer in what exactly is your question?

Even I am surprised that the tyre lasted so long. . Guess I am driving too sanely

Yesterday I confirmed from where it is leaking and it is near the rims, so I can try to refit the tyre

But I guess it is about time I changed the tyres for best results. Only concern till now I had with Sirac was that it is not a tubeless tyre, but if my luck is bad I might not find a place where I can fill my "Tubeless" tyre when it gets punctured

                    • ^^ Boss I've used the Sirac as tubeless in the worst possible terrain. You can use it as tubeless.

Did you mean as "tubed" rather than "tubeless" ?

I am thinking of going to SIRAC only . Will be calling up Sai & Iyengar, as it is quite near to my office and would get the tyre from there. I believe they will also fit the tyre themselves...

Yes I meant *tubeless* aka without a Tube!

I got my tyre fitting done at Sai Iyengar itself. The charged me 2.6K all inclusive of tyre fitting, tyre cost, nitrogen air filling.

                          • I want to confirm if i adjust rear suspension to lift up the bike then will it affect front handle bar during hard braking like any bad affect? beacuse more pressure will be there ... !!

first & foremost thanks for ur initative

avenger & p220 have same capacity but the power & torque varies...this is due to so many factors....now by what means they have detuned other than carb (as the carb in avy is 29 against 32 of pulsar) & exhaust....

my next thought i felt is they retained the head assy of 200 just by replacing the bore & crank with the carb same as in p200......is this how they have detuned ahh.. or there r more ways to detune a engine

wat happens if i replace the 29 with 32...will the power improve or just i lose mileage...
