  • I was surprised too since Pulsars below 200CC (which they were servicing) also have front discs but the manager there said I have to compulsorily go to a PBK service center.

Don't know any local mechs here (and I'm not a petrolhead either) so I don't want to risk a non-Bajaj service center.
Will try the next nearest Bajaj service center and see what they say.

    • @JonnyRider ya I too had the same thought that my FI was tuned for lean mixture. I was going to correct that at nearest PBK but before that disaster struck ......my clutch failed while riding and somehow i managed to drive my bike home.....gear changes were extremely hard....I literally had to kick the gear lever to engage it

Next day I was planning to take my bike to PBK but it was 15 kms away and I was in no mood to ride my bike in such condition.....eventually I found a normal bajaj authorised service station near my house and I dragged my bike there and conveyed my problem to head mechanic.....he told to take my bike in evening and he will fix it till then....

I returned in evening and my bike was being worked upon......i asked mechenic what was the issue he told that my clutch plates were worn out and clutch cable was also snapped and he replaced both.......I also told him about my bikes performance at high speed and need to check my FI mixture setting.....he listened to my problem and began to check my bike.......first he removed wire of my left side spark plug and checked it spark timing by firing my bike on single spark plug......he did the same with right side......and concluded that there was some spark mistiming and he needs to check the packing of alternator casing and one of spark plug was not working properly and needs replacement......how did he know just by experience??

he then opened the casing and looo he was correct there was no packing present ......he then paced the new packing and screwed my bike and revved it but still the bike only revved to 9k rpm ......he then told his junior mechanic to check the petrol filter which is present just below the petrol tank in 220 FI which filters the petrol pumped by petrol pump to injector.......bingo he was correct again the petrol filter was full of dust & impurities he was going to replace that part but that petrol filter was not available in his inventory.........so he took out the filter and cleaned it manually by blowing it with compressed air.......after fitting it he again revved my bike and surprise my bike now began revving past red line to 11k rpm ...... he didnt even touch the FI mixture setting

Took my bike for a spin today.....bike is responding much better to throttle....will update on top speed soon....

          • Problem in Feb 2008 220 Fi

Hi guys i am from Mumbai and i have done some normal performance mod in my feb 2008 220 Fi..

            1. NGK Irridium spark plugs.
            2. 3 core spark plug wire
            3. K&N air Filter (directly fit by cutting the airfilter box)
the above mods i've done some 5k kms(the bike has just touch 30k kms on odo)and for last couple of months bike is facing problem of pic up, woblling and i also feel the engine is not giving enough power and it will breath out soon..
so i took my bike to local mechanic he ride the bike and told me that the bikes cluch plates are worn out and need to be change he also told me that there is some problem in front forks..

so my concern is, should i go back to normal airfilter? Will K&N give problem to the engine in future...and do i need to service the bike only at Pro Biking Service center cos my past experience with these guys is not that pleasant...or should i stick with the normal mechanic cos he told me there is not much of difference in servicing FI and carb, and for tuning FI he can take it to Service center as he has some of his mechanic friends who can help him out..

Please help me your valuable feedback would be helpful for me..
            Thanks..

If you want to screw up your Fi bike, you are free to a local mechanic. Amazing experience or sour experience doesn't matter, but you have to stick to probiking Service Centres, else local mechanics can screw up the Fi to an unrepairable extent and may make you pay unnecessarily.

What is the mileage you are getting. When was the last time you changed the clutch plates? If you are getting mileage of anything around 35, you do not have a clutch plate problem.

When was the last time you changed your Fuel filter? If you have not changed it recently, get it changed. It should be changed every 5k kms (mandatory) for the same experience. It costs 45rs only.

For anything normal excluding the problems from Engine area i.e. area underneath the tank, like brake pads shocks forks etc. you can visit a local mechanic.

Mine too had the same problem and wouldn't go beyond a definite speed and seemed the engine had low power. Local mechanics said, clutch issue.
I just got the fuel filter changed after 42,619kms! It was full of black mud. And lo there was a drastic improvement in performance. It can now basically redline on any given gear, yes even the 5th! It mustered a speed of 147kmph at 9.8k RPM on 5th gear yesterday before I said enough and left twisting the throttle. The acceleration, response and top speed has increased hugely, compared to previous best on P220-Fi of 110kmph only!

                • One serious advice. Never take Fi bike to some local mechanic. Fi units are not some kid stuff. If you screw it, it will be very hard to get it repaired.

As Utsav mentioned, check the fuel filter, throttle body checked.

I sometime feel quite pity for kids like you. You will take the bike to some local mechanic & then blame the manufacturer for it. I have never ever taken to local mechanic except for puncture & other stuff.

I too have NGK spark plugs and a piper cross fitted directly by cutting the box... I haven't faced any issues in 3 years of this setup... I have a 2007 FI...

I would strongly recommend sticking with the service centre... If you go to the Phoenix mills service centre I could recommend you my mechanic...

                        • Regarding Running-In period

                          Hi Guys,

I just bought P220 DTS-Fi last week, feeling very proud. I wanted to ask about running-in period. I have done around 150 km till now, keeping speeds around 40 KMPH (4th gear/3K RPM) & 50 KMPH (5th gear/3K RPM).
What I am trying to do, is not take it above 3-3.5K RPM.
The manual says not to exceed beyond certain speed limits on certain gear.
The mechanic at delivery said not to go beyond 40 KMPH for first 1000 kms.
So, which is the best technique to adopt for running in periods? Is there any other precaution which I need to take? I am pretty novice with bike technical details yet.

                          Thanks.

                              Firstly Congrats!

Are you sure that it is a Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi ? Coz I think the production of this beautiful machine stopped, and were only made available on special requests until 2010.

I think you got a 220DTSi. Few pics of the bike would be very good though. Refrain from speeding in the first 1800kms. till 1000kms stay below 55kmph. till 1800kms stay below 70kmph. Change engine oil strictly as per the manual.
