Thanks abhi. Do you use a chain spray?

Sorry, I just joined this thread so do not know much but can someone assist me with some of the known drawbacks of the new P220 DTSi?
I know one of them is to check if its fitted with the new BYBRE disc brakes. What else?

Buddy this the 220 Dts-Fi thread...

There are no drawbacks of any bike. Drawbacks are personal opinion based and totally depend on one's perspective!

Thanks Praful, is there a seperate thread dedicated to P220DTSi?

I owned one of the first P220 DTSFi in Pune for about 20 months before I sold it so am aware of quite a few issues of that version. I got the bike in November 2008.

Get your Piston kit changed, otherwise the oil level will keep on decreasing more frequently.

OT: How is the tank bag that you have. Does it holds onto the tank at speeds and no road conditions? Also any sign of scratches and other wear-tear on tank due to that bag? What was the cost of it? Which Brand? Any other recommendations? How are the rear bags? How much you paid for them? Could we just buy normal School bags for touring? I use 3 normal school bags purchased for 200-200 Rs and tie them packed with the rear grab rails. Too many questions... sorry could'nt control..

                • @ abhi : Put in some thoughts about ur choooooo problem. ok visualize this. the assembly holds the disc pads. the disc pads are held by a flat metal plate. on the rear disc, the assembly is open on the top. there is metal protrusions inside the assembly. they tend to get really close to the disc when braking. My mech keeps pushing them side to side once in a while. he says he fine tunes the brakes. and trust me, God knows what he does, now my breaks bite hard. I'll post pics later.

choooo. noise. Have you heard the noise that comes from Truck or Bus brakes like chooooo... the same sound comes but it is thinner than in the case of a bus or truck. I guess that the Brake Liners are touching the disc while braking.

No way! Piston kit replacement is the last resort. Rings replacement has resolved it before and if I know my bike it this will hold on for another 30K for sure!

Tank bag is great, as long its not raining. For scratches I cover my tank with scotch tape to protect it. Brand is cramster, same goes for the saddle bags as well. Normal school bags aren't designed for this purpose and it bound to have issues

Piston rings replaced. Great! only a few of people gets them replaced on time.

Please do post the prices of bags? Why normal bags cannot be used for touring purposes? If the stitching is strong then there is no problem. I have done that and am doing it consistently!

The tank bag costs 1.2k and saddle bags cost 2.2k afaik. Check out for more details.

Its not about strong stitching, things which are designed to sit on the bike have a greater chance of falling off compared to other things.

                          • Hi Guys,

On 3rd Oct I left from my house in Goregaon for Grant Road to change the front Tyre as i wasn't getting the same one anywhere in the city. I left my place at about 10:20 am & reached Mahalaxmi Station at about 11 at that signal when i was slowing down to stop for red light at about speed of 30kmph my bike stopped. I tried to start it again but it didn't work kept trying for about 10 mins but still the bike wont fire up again. got off from the bike parked it aside and went to search for a mechanic, after about 10 mins found one but he wasn't willing to come to check the bike, told me that i have to bring the bike to him, so i pushed the bike for almost 800mtrs. to his garage. He checked fuel flow, & sparks they were all good, then he tried starting the bike up but she still wont start. So he started checking wires etc... he striped down the faring & tank & checked each contact, then he again checked for sparks but there wasn't any this time .
Then he keeps working on it checking cables for loose connection & after 1 hour says that i have to leave the bike and come 2morrow as he will have to take things apart & get it checked. I said No.
I went out with the mechanic & searched for a tempo, No one was agreeing to drive that far from Mahalaxmi to Goregaon. & those who were ask for sky high prices at 1800, 2000, 2200 i found one guy & bargained with him at 1400 and loaded my bike in the tempo & left for Bajaj Service Center in Amboli, Andheri.
The Bike is still in the service station since Sunday, the Supervisor who took my bike in is never available when i call, & the guys there say that there's some major thing wrong & they are working on it But don't say whats wrong.

Did you checked all the fuse boxes? particularly the one below the seat? It might have blown out? Also do you hear the sound of fuel pump starting on turning key to ON position. There maybe other possible causes like starter relay failure, coil failure but they are rare.

Hi Finally got my bike back today but its still is giving jerks when driving, I check if there is any water in the fuel filter but i don't see it. The Guys at service center said that they charged my battery and changed some relays, But fortunately they haven't charged me anything for it. My bill was 0.

Will go either today or tomorrow & speak with the mechanic who did the repair on my bike and ask him on how to solve the problem completely.
The Wiring of the bike seems to the main cause of the problem.

@ abhi : Sorry I don't know much about this bike as i've only had her for like 2 months. But the mechanic did check most of the fuses & said they were good. Yes I did hear the sound of fuel pump starting when turning on the key. & the coil was generating power aswell.
