Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Sad to hear about the problems you have faced on your Karizma!! it is really a bad experience.. Hope you get the bike of your liking soonOriginally posted by ankit.traveller View PostI have finally decided to sell my 35k kms zma (bought in sept 2013) because now I can not live with its missing/jerking problem between 4k to 5k rpm since the day 1 of purchase. I have tried everything to rectify by myself, ASC, senior mechanics etc but not succeeded-
1. Changed carb in warranty in july 2014 after lot of fight with HMC.
2. Cleaned fuel tank/ fuel filter lot of times.
3. Changed air filter/spark plugs at every 5k intervals.
4. Changed HT coil, spark plug cap, stator coil recently to rule out any ignition related issue.
5. Even clutch plates and chain sprocket are changed at 25k kms.
6. Set AFR to 3.5 turns.
7. Cleaned throttle slide multiple times.
8. Tried different fuel pumps to rule out adulterated fuel issue.
9. Throttle cable changed at regular intervals.
Though I have toured alot on this machine and I never got stranded during tours but I was not a happy tourer due to this specific problem specially on mountain roads as mostly required pull is at 4k to 5k rpm. I have invested lot of time, money, energy to sort out this problem but nobody is able to identify the root cause. Now I have given up after 3 yeras.
people say that motorcycling scenario in India is changing when there are sofisticated performance bikes are launching frequently but whats the fun if after sales service of company and people at ASCs are good for nothing.
Its the result of divorce of Honda with Hero. Now I regret the day when I sold my trustworthy and trouble free touring companion Honda Unicorn and bought "Hero" ZMA.

Have you checked the wiring and specially pickup coil ? i had similar experience with my splendor which ran good below 30% throttle and above 60%.Originally posted by ankit.traveller View PostI have finally decided to sell my 35k kms zma (bought in sept 2013) because now I can not live with its missing/jerking problem between 4k to 5k rpm since the day 1 of purchase. Can understand the efforts that you had spent on getting the ZMA back to shape.
But I only feel that you strongly reconsider your decision, because you can never get one (Speaking out of experience
).
I started my hunt for Karizma R (just when the old ZMA R model production was about to be stopped) in Jan 2014 and finally after a long journey of almost 1.5 years, brought home a a pre-worshipped yellow ZMA-R (2012 model) in the month of July 2015.
As you said, I was fed up searching and gave up the idea of getting a ZMA, as I only kept feeling that ZMA was not for me
.
Unable to find a ZMA, I brought home a new Pulsar-220. I saw myself satisfied with 220, but my obsession with the ZMA didn't seem to reduce.
Started my search again and finally turned out successful in July 2015.
There is no guarantee that the Old ZMA-R will be relaunched in the near future, though I keep hearing some rumors often.
Just like how you regret on your previously owned Unicorn, you should never regret on letting go your ZMA
I only hope that your ZMA recovers soon.
Just felt like sharing my opinion

Now I will go for FI atleast. No news of Apache 200 FI as of now. Inclined towards duke200, just comfort factor stopping me, though I have ridden d200 in city and found comfortable but not sure for long rides.Originally posted by rreneav1987 View PostSad to hear about the problems you have faced on your Karizma!! it is really adilemmaperience.. Bro, I know zma is a gem of bike specially for touring, that is why I bought it even knowing that this will be discontinued. All I can say that its my bad luck I got lemon.Originally posted by VR. View PostCan understand the efforts that you had spent on getting the ZMA back to shape.

Happened to meet one of the ASC ZMA service engineer, who handles only ZMAs.Originally posted by ankit.traveller View PostBro, I know zma is a gem of bike specially for touring, that is why I bought it even knowing that this will be discontinued. All I can say that its my bad luck I got lemon.
Spoke to him about your problem.
He advised replacing the CDI and stator coil.
I see from your posts that you had changed the stator coil.
I guess you can give out a try with CDI as a last resort (in case you haven't done it)
Ignore if you have already made up your mind in selling your ZMA.Jet Set Go!!!

Bro, thanks a ton for your concern. As CDI is costly (4.5k plus) but easy to plug and play, I have tried other zma cdi in mine for 2 days but issue not solved. Even I tried other TPS unit along with CDI.Originally posted by VR. View PostHappened to meet one of the ASC ZMA service engineer, who handles only ZMAs.

Yesterday I uploaded my bike in olx and quikr and quoted 55k. Max offer I got till now is 40k.
----consecutive posts auto-merged-----
Even now I am ready to spend amount to rectify this but atleast anybody can pin point the exact root cause.

Anyways, advance wishes for your new ride

Re: Karizma/Karizma R Ownership Experience
Leave ASC , This is something they will never bother looking into. Pickup coil is outside the stator on right side , like a black box size of a NON Dust Eraser. It tells CDI when to fire , is that goes bad , bike will sputter at particular throttle zone in your case 4-5k.Originally posted by ankit.traveller View Postwiring checked at 3 different ASCs but no probs diagnosed. You mean its in the left crank case cover where stator coil is fixed? While replacing stator coil I didn't noticed. For replacing pickup coil again left crank case cover to be removed?Originally posted by RohIIT View PostPickup coil is outside the stator on right side , like a black box size of a NON Dust Eraser.
Yes if possible pl post pic.Originally posted by rreneav1987 View PostI think it would help him if you can post a pic of the Pickup coil

The black part, if the clearance between that and plate even changes by microns, it will misfire or skip firing at full load condition or 4-5k rpm in your case.Originally posted by ankit.traveller View PostYou mean its in the left crank case cover where stator coil is fixed?
