Tapets of a new bike are always set loose. And only after completing the initial run-in, the clearance is corrected.
And its always good to have loose than tight tappets. Cause I currently believe my tappets are abit tight thanks to SVC.
My initial mileage when I got my bike was 23Kmpl i.e even when staying withing run-in limits which is 3.5K and running under stock AFR setting which is 2.5 Turns.
But as I rode on the bike's overall behaviour and sound changed, and my best mileage was 48Kmpl with (70%Rip + 30%Sane) and at that time my AFR was also tweaked to 4Turns.
I know some people may find the above data hard to believe, but one thing I understood after owning a ZMA's that, when you think things could'nt get worse, you'r in for a hell of a surprise, and vice versa.
Yeah and about my current mileage, Im getting something below 30Kmpl, dont know why, but I guess it'll get better in due time cause after all, we did'nt go for a premium segment bike for its mileage.
ADDITIONAL INFO.
I've confirmed with another 2011 ZMA user that, all 2011 ZMA's will only go upto 125~130(Lets take 127.5Kmpl as a precise value.)
Episode 1.
My ride, 20w40 Gulf Pride 4T Plus, NGK Iridium IX, AFR at 4 Turns.
Some of you may remember me saying something about my ZMA stalling after crossing the 125Kmph mark somewhere just above the 130Kmph mark. At the time I thought I'd run out of fuel. The bike started only after chokeing and cranking for a while.
Episode 2.
Other guy's ride, Stock Oil, Stock Plug, Stock AFR.
Did the test when the bike had just completed somewhere around 1k(Yeah I know, some people dont believe in RUN-IN).
The bike stalled just after crossing the 125Kmph mark as reported by him, he thought there might be some problem with the bike, cause at the time his tank was more than half full, the bike only started after a few kicks.Last edited by ashwinprakas; 11-05-2011, 03:01 PM.Motorcycling Experience:

Can i expect a top end of 130 and mileage of 35(city) from zma after proper run-in....????Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostTapets of a new bike are always set loose. And only after completing the initial run-in, the clearance is corrected.

mileage below 30 is not acceptable for me.... if below 30 is the figure i m going to get from zma then i'll wait for upcoming pulsar series and ktm duke....sigpic

Be warned. If you'r looking for raw performance go for P220/RTR180.Originally posted by Naveen1985 View PostCan i expect a top end of 130 and mileage of 35(city) from zma after proper run-in....????

The new ZMA's top out at 125Kmph(127.5 Kmph).
And you'd easily get 35+Kmpl i.e mixed, I dont know about pure city riding cause have'nt had the chance to do so.Motorcycling Experience:

thanks a lot for instant reply.....if it can deliver a mileage of 35 under mixed conditions then its good for me....but some people and some of my friends claim that it will not give you above 30....Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostBe warned. rtr is a good option but it lacks big bike feel....and zma is better in looks and it will last much more as it has bullet proof reliability and engine....
(no offences to rtr owners as its my personal opinion)sigpic

man cant just decide which1 to go for after reading thread and after reading owner manual really gathered a lot of info and realize getting cheated by service people now definately will get a lot of juice getting all service properly done.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostI'm using the links from my Picasa web albums to post pics here , works flawless

No , I just go straight to Bansal for parts these days .. as I found out that the guy at my local ASC parts counters actually phone them only when I ask them for availability .
No , no problem with 20w40 even now .. I am running 20w40 motul fine in my old cbz-x presently . But I would advise you to run on the HH 10w30 for a bit longer .. say upto 5000+ Kms on a new engine . It may benefit from the quicker wear produced by the thinner oil . Try to get the tide-water made HH oil .. it's available for 175 Rs ( I posted the location a few posts back here , check). It's a far better oil than the BPCL made one .. which they were using at the ASC last I saw .
still not able to choose gulf or hh oilLast edited by shhbz; 11-05-2011, 06:53 PM.

I am confused whether i should stick with zma or i should go for some other bike coz mileage of 25 is horrible acc to me...Hey guysOriginally posted by truelypulsarian View PostMy close friend has 2011 zma his bike is having tappet noise from the day 1 and he is getting FE of 25-30 kms even when driven sanely on city roads he is fed up with his bike now.
tappet noise will come up in higher cc bikes its a minor adjustment and have to be done at around 4k -5k kms( may vary with riding style) intervals. You have to accept it
. SVC guys (who are capable) can adjust it properly.
And about economy: nobody takes a 225 cc bike for economy. 35 is pretty neat. And 2011 ZMA's give slightly better economy than older versions. In my case i am getting 40 above(sane riding in city). Worst was 31(total rip). Sane riding means shifting gears between 3k and 4k RPM and riding at 70 speed as average.Cheetahs are faster but the lion is still the KING

New engine??? 5000+ kms????? My bike is 17.5k+ kms and 11 months old.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostNo , no problem with 20w40 even now .. Mileage of the Karizma never goes below 28kmpl. My lowest was 28.8kmpl when continuously ripped at 130+kph for some 80 kms. You'll always get around 33-38kmpl with mixed riding.Originally posted by Naveen1985 View Postone of my friend is getting 25 who is having 2009 model and other one is getting mileage 35 in city but he is having 2011 model....

reply to my mail from hero moto corp!!!
hello guys
last week had written to hero moto corp about the service complaint and 2 days back i got a call from the service manager of the svc saying that he is sorry for all the incident and giving me apologies blah blah blah....so now he told me to come to svc and he will solve my problem free of cost he even said that he could arrange a person to pick my bike from home....
..quite funny how these ppl act as they get irders from their seniors...
so tommrow i m going to the svc so will update as soon as possible here and one more thing my tank paint is getting out i mean to say it comming out on the edges of te tank cover due to the pump pipe been put into it ...so will i get the tank replaced in warranty or atlest a gud paint touch up...and lso i m gettting sum kinda sound from the tank i think the rod in the tank which indicates pertol level is loose???

Oh ok , I think I confused your ride with Shhbz'sOriginally posted by sunny_ View PostNew engine??? 5000+ kms????? My bike is 17.5k+ kms and 11 months old....
... 20w40 is good for yours for all kolkata climate . The best operating range for 20w40 oil is from 10-15C to 40-45C ambient temperature (IMHO) . You'll need to idle for a min on really chilly early morning starts , which is perfectly normal . Try to get motul 3000 4T plus/Yamalube SG/SL/gulf pride , all of which I have used and found to be excellent for around 2000 kms . Sometimes(rarely) you may also need to make minor adjustment to AFR/idle on shifting to a different grade oil than what you are using now .

Hey guys try this and say if you notice any difference.
1st gear rev till 4k.
2~4 gear rev till 5k.
5th gear rev to 5k or till redline(depending on you'r mood).
Try the above riding style for a week and tell me if you notice any difference in engine pickup/smoothness.???Motorcycling Experience:
