Are the SS guys replacing the tanks or whats the excuse?
I have never taken the bike to any SS till date.

Tappets, its been discussed a few 10s of times here. Anyways 0.10 for IN and EXT. You cant tighten the cam shain tensioner man and it does not help anything. This is an auto tensioner. Works on a preload.
Another bit, tighten/loosen the tappets only if needed. you only need to inspect once after 5000kms. Why fix when it aint broke
Joel, the other day when I went to the SS complaining of rough engine and tappet noise and vibrations within 300kms of second service, the guy there said tappet adjustment is unnecessary(cos I came with the same complaint just a week before that and got it adjusted, but the problem returned again). He instead "adjusted" the tensioner. And assured me that the problem will be solved. I in fact felt there was a difference after he fiddled with the tensioner screw or something that's at the left side of the fairing.

Do you think all I experienced was just a placebo effect? Did the SS guys try to fool me? Asking cos you said R15 has an auto tensioner that cannot be adjusted :|

    • Dont take it in such a way that once ur bike is due second/third service , u need 2 adjust tappets.

Dont Fiddle with it if u have no problem,
To know whether u have a problem or not , read Joel's posts , few pages bk.

Mine is 7k plus, no need of any adjustment .

hehe .. another one bites the "rust" .. go to the spread sheet. If you want I can mention it the the next time yamaha guys call me up. When i showed the rust to the mechanic he said that it won't harm the bike. I said I have a 6 year old RX that does not rust and at this price I can buy 6 RX's.

I get that distinct loose marbles noise when my engine is running and the mechanic says that the tappets are loose. So let's see what they do tomo. I plan to hang about there inspecting the job. man if only the had wi-fi, I would be working from SS tomo .

@santa : did you remove your pilots after fitting 2X 60/55 .. also AFAIK you have both lights on low beam .. right ?

              • I actually ran around JC road with my old headlight's pilot lamp in hand. i visited some 10 shops and they directed me to SP road. A shop name would be useful.

                • Aren't the LED pilot lamps from Yam better coz they're 3 times brighter&no compatibility issues as well? Donno, coz I haven't fit them yet, but have got them from Bangalore though!

Santa, I'm not taking it that way. Thing is that I drive really hard. Iredlined it all the time ever since first service. This kind of acceleration and redlining tends to loosen tappets and other parts of the engine quicker than normal. I can easily feel vibrations on my bike past 6k RPM. And anyone would obviously hate vibrations on an R15, right? Lots of vibrations and engine noise. The exhaust sound has lost its "depth". It's more like shrill and "treble"istic now.The tank passes vibes onto thighs, the footrests pass it onto legs, the handle-bar passes them onto arms. Even a pillion who holds the grab-rails and rests his feet on the rear foot-rests also will get the vibes. Now that's definitely not normal right? That too only after 300 kms of second service?

@R15rocks: Dude, can you please post me pics of the Yamaha LEDs?? I just want to have a look at them so that I can say what kind of LEDs they are. A top view and a horizontal view will be fine.

Are they replacing the tanks or what are they doing about this? The rust looks bad and very annoying each time I open the fuel lid to tank up.

Guys, I came across one salesman selling some sort of white powder in pouches for 15-20bucks at a petrol pump once. Actually it was used to clean chrome parts, but he said it could also be used to clean off rust. It actually worked for thin layers of rust as well. Lemme see if I can find that somewhere! You need to mix it with a little water&apply it...

I think WD40 works well...Guess guys have already tried that..

I had got teflon done after 1st servicing and no rust till date...Including an entire month of riding in heavy rains here

                              • Once a rust is initiated, no WD40 or power can resist it anymore. I've tried all that stunt already.
Is Yamaha replacing the rusted tanks or not?
