LOL! Yeah. I was going 8x when I went into the crater (it was not a pot hole). There is a good chance that even the strongest of alloys would have been bent.Originally posted by santoosh View Post
Oh. Well, I was just considering engine warranty cuz he had asked about engine warranty. It is sad that Yamaha is so strict about its warranty policy. Changing of tyres, at the very least, should be allowed. I mean changing tyres should not be a reason not to replace a part completely unrelated to that, is what I meant.Originally posted by R15Rocks View PostDoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Are you also including the cost of broken bones, possibly cost of life and all if they crack on a small pot hole while you were riding it @ a good 100KMPH?Originally posted by R15Rocks View PostThink of it, replacing R15 rims when they crack is a smaller cost compared to all that!
Jokes apart, its probably as bad as a case as it was with the P200 forks... This is indeed a very serious issue! I am sure Yamaha would be looking at it, how fast would they correct it is a different issue though!Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

They have a reason for that, as every one knows R15 tiers are skinny and many will try to put a 120/140 section tyre which is not a direct fit and involves some modification to the swing arm, which will effect many aspects.. So they have tried to avoid this by bringing the warranty..Originally posted by pranay View PostOh. Well, I was just considering engine warranty cuz he had asked about engine warranty. Not R15 , any bike actually voids warranty if any part other than the oem are changed.
But its the SS guys that make the decision ..

how many of you guys have got the speedo buzz (disappears if you damp the speedo with your finger). I got it after my last service and am planning to put some foam to correct it. minor stuff.
Also .. these alloys were not designed to take the impact of hitting a pothole at 100 odd kmph. hit it at 60-70 and you won't have a prob. It's strange man .. you buy a bike meant for the track, put it through potholes at track speeds and then cry over bent rims. Agreed about the safety issue and all I see is a recommendation to ride the bike at reasonable speeds on bad roads.

Correct. Thats where I hope Yamaha is a bit flexible. I understand the R15 is a beautiful bike as it is. But it won't let bikers experiment with their vehicle too much (I know that can be both a good and a bad thing, but atleast a choice is thereOriginally posted by santoosh View PostNot R15 , any bike actually voids warranty if any part other than the oem are changed.

I agree too. There should be a safety barrier where something goes wrong just in case. I think the idea should be focus on strengthening the newer lot of R15 alloys without adding too much weight and degrading performance. It should not be so difficult.Originally posted by archibaby View PostAgreed about the safety issue and all I see is a recommendation to ride the bike at reasonable speeds on bad roads.

i feel paint chipping is due to the type of washing done .. i saw the guys at pacer and panche using some liquid first ( am sure it was kerosene / diesel / something else ) after using this kind of stuff for washing paint coming off is normal i guess.Originally posted by R15Rocks View PostNot to forget about paint chipping!

Paint chipping
Nothing to do with washing-btw no one uses kerosene etc.to wash a bike or car for that matter! They only use water&soap/shampoo. I saw paint chipping off the grab rails within a couple of weeks of my buying it...the bike wasn't even serviced then. HydBiker will second me on that. Same applies to the alloys. IMO, powder coating gives a more longlasting finish on alloys, grab rails, handlebars, engine head etc. (check out finish of Apache RTR, you'll know what I mean). Thats cost-cutting from Yamaha for you!Originally posted by navnish View Posti feel paint chipping is due to the type of washing done .. i saw the guys at pacer and panche using some liquid first ( am sure it was kerosene / diesel / something else ) after using this kind of stuff for washing paint coming off is normal i guess.

Today I visited Venktasha for my rear brakes. The SS guy said he will take the whole day to fix as it had to be cleaned. I had no idea what he was talking about. Actually my rear discs do not perform since I got the bike delivery. Anyhow, I did not give him the bike as he demanded the whole day for it. I postponed the idea till my first servicing (even today it was free as it was under warranty).Originally posted by synergizer View PostI did have a serious issue with the alloys yesterday.. I hit a hole (caused by some cracks, not so big one) on a highway and to my surprise, both the rims gave up. The front rim got bent and rear one cracked, infact it broke. I was at 95-100 kmph. I weigh 56 kilos and the pillion rider weigh's 64 kgs. Though the speed was high but I really never thought that the quality of the rim was so bad that it would crack. Guys from Hyd visiting Venkatesh Motors SS can see the damage. Bike number is AP29AE 4533
I was then 150 kms away from Hyderabad and it was late evening. How I returned is another story....
Guys be careful when you see these holes..and take my words on this.. the quality of the rims is really bad. I hope Yamaha does something about it. People who have faced problems with the rims please let us know here so that we could take it up to Yamaha and hope they come with some good solution as Bajaj had done for the front fork issues of P200.
But I would appreciate one thing. The feel was as if both my tyres took a hit and bursted when actually the front rim got bent and rear one cracked... but the bike didnot lose its balance. Both tyres leaked almost at the same time but the bike was rock steady and I was easily able to take it to the side of the highway to park it.
Will try to post the pics of the damage late today...
Although I was there for hardly 5 mins, I could see your black R15 parked (if I am not mistaken). The rear rim had a small bent on the side but the whole frame seemed fine. I expected really really bad as you described but it wasnt. I did not take a "very" closer look.
I saw a lot of R15 just kept in the SS as if junk. There was a guy dragging a FZ16, with its stand out, as if its a luggage. Felt bad looking at the way bike were handled. I am not trying to make any impressions on Ventakesha, just a look of 5 mins of me being there!Last edited by vibhanshu; 01-13-2009, 03:06 PM.Fear is the Trigger!

I understand your point.. The alloys bending is understood at high speeds but cracking/breaking was unacceptable...Originally posted by santoosh View PostPotholes are a feature on indian roads . ride at decent speed where u could avoid it , rather than going at 100 and say alloy bent :-(Yamaha R15 | Merida SUB 20MD

Well I did find the damage quiet bad. And if you see carefully you will find a crack on the rims. I dont have a high resolution pic as of now.. will post one some time laterOriginally posted by vibhanshu View PostAlthough I was there for hardly 5 mins, I could see your black R15 parked (if I am not mistaken).
