  • Is it possible to swap the rear alloy with that of FZ 16 and the rear alloy to the front one, keeping the tyres stock and not fiddling much with the swingarm?

    - well you will have to make sure that the chain does not touch the tyre/rim, and alignment would be a problem, afair the R15 cannot take a tyre size greater than 120 without modding the rear swingarm.

    - Swapping the rear alloy to the front would also not help much, because of the amount of modification involved.

    - Moreover the balance and handling of the bike would go for a toss.

I understand the FZ16 alloy doesnot have rear disc as stock, however, there are various places in Karol Bagh where they install the disc fitmet into FZ's alloy.

    - A chinese disc setup done locally, will only add weight, and reduce the performance. The drum would be better in the long run.

Why dont you just ride the bike more carefully, avoiding potholes, and keeping a foresight on the road. That would actually save you all this trouble. Its a mini sports bike after all, with firm suspension, and grippy tyres and great handling, Ride it carefully.

FZ's rear alloy is around 4 inches wide versus R15's which is around 2.5 inches wide. Its such to provide a rounded shape to the rear tyre of R15 to support its amazing cornering capabilities. Understandable. However, I just need to know it FMI.

Has anyone in this forum tried anything of this sort? If yes, what is the outcome? If no, what are the possible issues in that?

      1) It's not possible to fit the FZ's alloy without doing huge modifications(like cutting, etc) to the swingarm. Fitting the rear alloy of R15 at the front will toss your handling.

2)It's never possible to fit the stock tyre of R15 on an FZ alloy and run successfully. The FZ's alloy is wide as you already know, and is designed for low profiled tyres of a higher width than that of R15's tyre.

3)A locally fit Disc setup will never be as efficient as your stock "Nissin" braking system.

3)There are a few people who have done such jobs, but it doesn't feel good.

I'd say, it's better if you just ride a little carefuly. There wont eb much of a problem as long as your tyre pressures are correct(there are rare chances even in this case though). I've been through a few deadly pot-holes and nothing happened cos my air pressures were right and I was a little careful too.

Check the slackness of the chain, i have the same problem, my chains on its last setting, i need to get a new chain set, but the yamaha guys dont have the gearbox sprocket, i have been searching for it for ages and its really affecting the performance of my bike, my bikes done about 20,000 kms.

It needs revving, unlike other bikes. Do your shift at over 9K RPM and see the difference. If you dont rev that high in all gears then the progress is slow later. The max power comes at 8.5K. Its the same reason that some of the ppl were not happy with the R15's performance on the hills. It needs constant revving. Yamaha is not known for mid-range.

            • Hey guys today morning i noticed a problem in my bike.....
When u give a constant throttle the rpm is supposed to be constant but today morning when i revved till 3k rpm and then kept the throttle constant the rpm needle was swinging in between 2.5k to 3.5k periodically (rises from 2.5k to 3.5k ,stays there for a second and then falls back to 2.5k and then repeats the cycle all over again).....is it normal or do i need to get my bike checked at the SC?????

              • ^^^ was your bike standing still in neutral when you tried this?

                ----
@torino, my bike did 20K something. Chain + Sprocket kit and tyres need a change at the earliest. So is the air filter. All running stock so far. Which means that the performance has taken a good beating.

But still, with 140 KG's on board it pulls to 3 digits speed in 6th gear without my knowledge if there is a good open stretch of road. I notice the speed when I have to apply brakes. That is in City- Suburbs. I generally come on to the sixth gear by 60-70 KMPH when riding in the city.

But, if you want the pulling power, you should take the bike to 90 kmph at least in 5th gear.

                  • Guys,
recently my bike was making a weird noise at or above 45 kmph.....So i made a visit to the svc. So the mechanic there said that the chain needs to be cleaned (sprayed) & lubed..... i obliged & he did it.

Later That weird sound just vanished, but now i can literally hear the woosh woosh sound from the chain....
What could be the problem... ? Should i need to visit the svc again?

                    thanks....all.

Was it just the RPM needle or was the engine too was changing the revvs? (you could make it out by the sound)

Note down Yamaha company owned service station's phone numbers and call them up. Once you find it at one place, you can check ways to get it here.

Go to any car tire shop - there are so many now a days from every tire company and others as well. So far e-Serv brand was recommended by people to me. Not sure how others are.

Last time I got it from Opal. Initially they were reluctant to sell, as it was given to them by company for new vehicles. Now they don't have stock&are shifting too, so no support for a few days. Other places like Venkatesha have no idea what I'm talking about.

                              • Hii friends, i kept my R15 unattended for more than a month. And yesterday when i took it out it was not starting and i feared that the battery might be dead. I moved it around for sometime and after some 7 or 8 attempts it has finally started and afterwards the bike was normal !!!
