Sulking r 15
Had to deal with a sulking bike today!
Had been ignoring the bike for the last 8-9 days, had not been riding it due to slow leak from the front tire with no replacements available.Had the bike covered with the usual silvery cover, hardly any showers in Mumbai,so Iam all dressed up for a sunday bike ride, remove the cover, clean the bike, crank the starter and....nothing,the starter cranks the engine, but no fire in the cylinder, okay, this has never happened earlier in the 2 yrs we have been together, take a deep breath, switch of,turn the key, self test ok,no warning lights, press the starter, crank crank,no fire!!
this cant be happening to me,these things happen to other bikers who rip their bikes, dont get them serviced etc,not to me a careful 40 something biker who generally takes good care of the bike, after several attempts i start trouble shooting, the battery has a lot of juice,on earlier occasions had left the bike for two months at a stretch twice and she fired on the first crank!!
Had the good fortune of having the ecopy of the service manual mailed a day earlier, went thru it,removed the front right fairing(a pain really)checked the fuse, removed the plug, cranked ,the spark seemed a bit weak, got a solid electric shock in the bargain, spark plug was clean,no wear,10k done, for want of a better solution and since didnt want to disturb my r15 agony uncle Navnish bieng a sunday, got a new spark plug from the nearest shop,a rs 70 champion, looked quite crude though, put it in,cranked,no joy.
put the old one back,by now had a few litres of sweat due to the humid weather.put the whole thing back together and with my trip ruined(was going to book a Mac Pro)had a solo lunch, drank 2 litres of Jaljeera with ice, switched on the AC and saw a decent movie(2days in Paris, judy delpy)and slept a while with the thought of having to transport the bike 40km to the SS in Malad.
Gave the bike a few cranks, after a 3 hr gap,on the very first there were a few splutters from the engine.
Had a brainwave, connected the cars battery to the bike with jumper cables(best car/bike accessory ive everbought)to bypass a low voltage battery if any.Several cranks later gave up!!
Took my Activa to the Phoenix mall,18km away for malling, the ride was scary since was not used any more to ride a small tired scooter at 60-70kmph.
Got back after 2.5hrs,before going back to the flat remembered had not locked the bike, put in the key and since the key was in instead of turning it to the left to lock just for the heck turned it to right and cranked and Houston we have Ignition!!!
what joy!!went for a long ride, tanked up(fuel price rise monday)switched it on and of a few times and no problem!!
My two cents may have been a fuel flooding thing but I thought that didnt happen on FI,Ignition coil voltage, but then should have been pmt, cant wait to try tomorrow!!
will keep u posted

I'd have brought a P220 if these sort of things happen to R15's
. Get your bike checked up in an A.S.S. asap.
BTW: I've been meaning to put on a tankpad as I was really tired of removing my belt everytime I took helen out. So I called my dealer up and asked him to order a tank-pad for me, He did the same and within hours I got a call from him that the tank-pad was not in stock. I decided to wait a couple of days but even after 5 days there was no stock.
My friend's dad has a shop in Karol Bagh and I needed to get the permanent no. written on helen's plates, so I went to get the no. written. My friend took me to a shop where he had a bit of rapport, and I found some really cool looking tank-pads there. Asked for a quote for the biggest red one I found and was quoted Rs150. I took the deal.
Just now, I was surfing the dsg site for riding gear and found a link to tank-pad section, god knows why I started browsing through the 34 pages each having pics of 9 styles of tank-pads; and what do I find?? The tank pad that I got for 150rs is actually a rip-off of this : "Motografix Yamaha Red Quad Tankpad" worth Rs2250
http://www.planetdsg.com/motografix-yamaha-red-quad-tankpad-ty010y-p-1077.html
I do not expect the quality to be anywhere near the same level, still I think that the cheaper version is very good considering the price for what I got it. Will attach a pic in the morning.

The R15 is very slender. On SBKs, the tank itself is so large and chunky, you have ample space to grip with your knees (but stomp grips are useful here also!). But its difficult with the R15's tank... I want stomp grips as soon as I can get them!!!Originally posted by neo_31591 View Posttrue...today my r15 is 2 days old.....im 6'2 so am alredy on a really upright position and even i got red palms....but then i didn bother me much....i just used to shift my body weight on the backside for a few seconds and it all got better...anyways.....the pure bliss i got while riding didn actually bother me at all about it at all.........covered 80kms in 2 days....whoo hooo! You get the point?? :D

Finally Got a pair of tyres for my bike
.
it was soo difficult to find the tyres .. in B'lore also.. most of the showrooms asking for a premium of 1000/- over the actual price
.
finally reported the issue to yamaha and after a long mail exchanges the issue went to higher ppl in yamaha and finally yamaha ppl took responsibility of assisting me in getting tyre [a person named andrewson from yamaha ordered the support guys to assist me, he may be big shot .. don't know his designation, but from mail conversation he's not from this part of the world
].
the support guys called me couple of times in a week by assisting me and booking tyres for me.
but finally i got them with actual rates of 995/- for front and 1500/- for back ... ofcourse i need to shell out 400/- for fitting charges.
now the bike is totally different feel .. its smooth and accerlated quickly .. i was really boored of my old tyres and running them at very low air pressure to avoid puncture/burst

Bike much better now!
Hey guys,
Thanks to the Service Head at Perfect Riders, my bike's condition has improved a lot! Vibes are down and the bike feels comparatively smoother. Comparatively coz my colleagues new R15 is much smoother than mine has ever been. Have done 1700km to date. Thanks to Tibby and Sarvajit, whom i met up wit over the weekend to compare bikes wit.
One thing i've noticed is that the bike doesn't seem to roll smoothly. Feels like somethin is holding it back a bit.. Can feel it while coasting downhill with the clutch pulled in. Dunno is its the brakes holding or somethin else, coz theres no rubbing sound as far as i can tell. Will keep ridin and get it checked during 2nd service. Am planning to try Bangalore Wheels since many people consider them the best in Bangalore.
Headlights are a pain while touring, but i dont think i'll go in for HID's right now coz i dont want to void the warranty so soon, especially on a bike that already seems to have a few problems.
This is the best bike i've ridden so far. Handling and composure is out of this world! Can feel my love for the bike steadily growing with each ride.
Cheers and best wishes to all R15 owners!A good rider has balance, judgment, and good timing. So does a good lover!
