a question, when according to you is the best time to go in for a top speed test?? have clocked 2.5k till now, 2nd servicing due soon..
and yeah one more, at what rpm do you guys normally shift gears while riding on city roads?
yamaha guys recommend to check the top speed after 2000 kms
the engine life will be good

since you have covered around 2.5k
get it serviced first then go for a ride to check the top scream.

to get the top speed shift gears at 9k rpm (my personal opinion) rather than shifting on 10k

i shift gears at 4,000 rpm in city riding conditions

and yeh, always prefer premium petrol as it is cleaner then the normal one. so, the engine is cleaner for a longer period and you need not to decarbonise at an early stage

        • 2500km report

          hi Friends
its been over 3months I got my R15 as my first Bike and we both have been deeply in Love with each other since then
My first service was done at a mere 300kms with a change of oil and oil filter.
I have been doing the running in as per the book and there's no problems so far(TOUCHWOOD) except for minor ones such as visor vibrations, etc.
tipped my Bike once on loose gravel while coming to a halt, Thank GOD there were no cracks, only a few scratches on the LHS fairing, indicator and the RVM.
I've been riding in and around my place doing approx. 80-100kms on a single stint when i get the chance.
Completed 2.3k kms few days ago and did the 2nd service(9days after the due date)
I got my Bike from PSN Automobiles from Cochin and the people there didn't question me on the due date.
I was experiencing a small sound under braking(I use only the front brake) and riding over potholes, a sound similar to when you apply front brake on a Bicycle at speed. bumped into a deep pothole(it was raining with water on the road and I didn't had a choice due to oncoming traffic and the suspension bottomed out with a loud thud).
after that incident, I felt the sound coming more frequently on uneven roads.
I told the service Engineer about it during my 2nd service and asked them to check/adjust the cone set.
along with it I asked them to check the visor for vibration, lower the rear brake lever(which the told they couldn't and I didn't believed them).
anyway, the refilled the coolant tank, changed the Engine Oil to 15W40 SS, and tighten the bolt on the handlebar stem. the mech didn't even clean the chain but he put the dry type lube on it. when I brought it to their notice, the told they'll do it but they didn't(even after keeping it for an hour more). it was Lunch time by then and I came back after the payment(INR 665 all total)
I brought it to their notice that the allen bolts of the handlebars are rusting but they didn't had spares available and told and shown me other R15s with the same prob.
I took off from there to the Highway to test my R15 and it did felt better than before without vibrations and slick gear shifts. Felt she became crispier than before
I know the mechs didn't even opened the fairings to check/tighten anything but I am Happy after the service with my probs solved. but the small chattering of the front brake comes in now only at high speed braking...please tell me its normal

I have grown upto an emotional attachment with my R15 over the past months. I feel like I'm the HAPPIEST when I am Riding her. Riding helps me keep every other things out of my mind as it is focussed only on my Riding.

my only gripe so far is that I become very tired after Riding for 80-100kms. i know it has to do with my sitting posture but I tried some permutations and combinations to no avail. when I read about people Riding for XXXkms continuously in this forum I also want to do it but I feel my hands and legs becoming a bit numb after continuous Riding. been experiencing little pain on my wrists. I generally sit close to the tank and I come to this position after Riding for some time automatically.....please suggest if this is wrong. is it because of a stiff suspension?
Also I get scared when I see loose gravel/sand on the road. think it is psychological but I don't want to take chances with it.

Also please shed some light on the cornering techniques as I'm not good at it. most of the times I feel I'm carrying too much speed into corners even if its a fast corner and I am at speeds around 50kmph.

its now time for me to check the tappets

check service manual it is mentioned there to check the valve clearance after 6000 kms.

I think it feels great to travel/cruise for long for long distances and get to see places.....but I get tired within 100kms.....please suggest

at the RHS of Kaloor Jn. when coming from Palarivattom.
They do have few Keiti tank pads for 1k....
try BIKE PALACE(or the other shop next to it) at Deshabhimani JN. they usually have few around the 100rs range.

              • I wanted a tank pad for my LE R15, looked around for the yamaha pad in 3 different svc but couldnt find it....got tired and took a 150rs one from karol bagh. 5 months later the 150 bucks pad has shown its worth and now i need a replacement. Thinking of getting a keiti, anyone knows where i might find one in delhi?

well it depends upon the rider
                      it is not your fault
                      try covering shorter distances first
and make yourself comfortable with the machine
try slow speed cruising for a shorter distance, say 40 or 50 kms

try longer distances then, you will feel the change
                      it takes time
                      no offence brother

don't apply your body weight on the handlebars, transfer it comfortably to the seat and the footpegs...i.e. don't balance your body on your wrists..sit in such a position such that your weight mainly acts on your hips, legs..try hugging the tank with your legs..work out different postures..
during extra long tours, when roads, traffic conditions permit, straighten your back by leaving one hand off the handlebar at a time..be extra cautious when you do this..even better if you take 5 minute halts to stretch yourself up..even the bike should be given rests of 10-15 minutes after doing some 200-300kms at a stretch..

                            ^^+1
tried karol bagh, didn't find anything better than pro-grips for 150-200..
btw did using the 150rs wala pad damage the tank? from what i've heard till now, people say that the tank rusts due to the moisture accumulated between the tank pad and the tank owing to rains, water washes, etc.
                            notice anything?
                            hopefully no!

or maybe buy a second/third/fourth/n th hand scooter (bajaj chetak or something) or kinetic for around 3-5k and use it when it rains or when the route you are supposed to take has many potholes...
