So my query is, whenever you come across a speedbreaker, rpm will come down to around 2k rpm usually.. In all such speedbreakers, I am supposed to come down to 1st gear only instead of 2nd? around 2.5k rpm, the speed will be around 10kmph, which revs up of in 1st gear and lugs a bit in 2nd gear.. since I go in muddy roads, I use half clutch and because of using half clutch, the rpm comes down to around 2-2.5k rpm usually.. I don't lug the engine once after 3rd gear.. I face this dilemma only in 2nd gear..
I face this issue too at slow speeds. And at 10 kmph or thereabouts, I have to be in 1st else the engine complains about the lack of revs. Very quickly, it goes high and then have to change to 2nd and then back to 1st as the traffic prevents a change to 3rd. One has to grin and bear with it.

Muddy roads ummm. Half clutch will cause heavy wear of the plates, I am sure you know that. Try to avoid them if possible. A tiny bit of 1/2 clutch only for a very short duration may not be bad but prolonged usage will surely wear out the plates prematurely.

One tip. I have found that if I use a fuel additive (I use Iftex Clean System G, I think by HP), the bike somehow gets a slightly wider torque band and 2nd is more forgivable to lower revs. These days, I am not using it (it was used up on the Leh trip) and the bikes snatches pretty early in 2nd. You could try this. Clean engine plus wider band, double advantage

But yes, one has to be in 1st when one would have liked to be in 2nd on the CBR.

    • Got a New CBR

Hi guys, this is my first post here.

Got my new CBR 250 ABS version yesterday. (I am from trichy, tamilnadu.) Those stupid guys at showroom asked me to collect the saree guard and owner's manual today.

Anyways i have had a honda unicorn for the past three years. Just loved my new CBR after riding it from the showroom to my home Today i have to take it to my work place (tuticorin). So i have a 300 KM ride ahead.

Just slightly worried about the long drive because the bike is very new. I read the owner's manual (downloaded from internet) and it says "no sudden acceleration or deceleration" for first 500KM. So if i follow that and keep the top speed below 120 everything should be fine right ?

One more doubt downshifting. (after reading the few previous pages) Suppose if i up-shift at 3k (1-2), 3.5k(2-3), 4k(3-4), 4.5k(4-5), 5k(5-6) rpm, should i downshift at the same rpm ?
(sorry if the doubt is stupid )

      Thanks.

P.S: i will post few photos today night after i reach my home.

        Congrats bro

the engine in the run in period tend to heat a little more than after 1.5k-2k kms so i took a break of 15-20 mins after 75-100 kms of continuous riding

up-shift are almost what i prefer, for the down-shifts i try to keep it above 4k rpm in any gears above 2rd

will be waiting or the pics

        • Hi guys,
Within one week I will get my CBR. Meanwhile for past three days I am using my friend's CBR for commuting to office. Its a new bike clocked around 650 kms only. I am hearing some horrible noise from engine during the below situations.
          1. while riding whenever releasing the throttle.

          2. while Engine Braking. For instance, In my office one slope entrance is there to reach the basement parking. Usually while passing in that slope I would engage to 2nd gear and without (opening throttle and applying brakes) as well.
^^ this operation is called Engine braking. Correct me if i am wrong..

That sound is clearly audible even pillion can figure it out. Its a kind of whistle + mechanical rubbing sound. I am getting this only from CBR not with my past bikes.
So what is it?, Anybody have the same experience please help me Guys.

Thanks Aargee and your three useful posts should be incorporated in Honda CBR250R official site since it has that much worth information. Will avoid engine braking going forward as it is in run-in period. I thought it is no harm to engine rather than applying clutch in slope. Anyway, regarding that horrible sound Could you provide any suggestion. My only big confusion is..
Is this issue related to well known SHIM problem? Too early
FYI. I will give it for 1st service on Thursday. If I get any idea on this issue then It will help while telling the problems to ASC peoples. I think having some knowledge also be consider as pre-requisites to speak with Service peoples.

Hey vakarthik, congrats on the new ride. Why were the showroom guys stupid? Because they told you to collect saree guard and manual or is there some other reason?

725 for bulb? Did you consider replacing it with any aftermarket bulbs? Osram NB or Phillips? I think they are cheaper or same price. The stock one is good though.

@aargee: so finally you added the links in your signature.

Btw, has anyone here added 12v charger socket or a weather proof usb charger socket (found on some site) on their cbr? I am doing it in some days myself but just want to get any idea. I plan to install it under the seat and get it wired with the ignition. Once done, will post a DIY.

                • Hi guys,

Just did a 280KM ride! It was awesome! out of 280Km some 260Km was in highway. So no worries about road condition. Throughout the ride the wind was heavy in opposite direction. But the CBR is very stable. Since it is a new bike i did only 80-110 KMPH speed. Touched 115 KMPH once, mostly driving only in 90+ KMPH. The bike was very stable throughout the ride!

Fuel Efficiency was around 31.5 KMPL. will it improve after first service ?

Thank you. they misplaced the owner's manual somewhere (between some other manuals) and saree guard was in their godown. I collected it today morning!

Well, I had got a FE of around 42 when I went on almost a similar 280 km ride in my new CBR before first service.. Around 150-160 km of it was in highway..

the mechanic told me the bulb had to be replaced , I thought it would not cost more than Rs 200 but was shocked to see the bill

The one supplied by HMSI is "Made in Japan"; I'm happy to pay the price

Philips Xtreme costs Rs 450 or so (sold in pair costs nearly Rs 900-1000); other cheap (really cheap) alternatives are from Autopal (I wouldn't take it even for free) around Rs 130-150

Hehe.. The FAQ links would help much more now. Even after refering them so many times, i myself did had tough time searching them sometimes

I have been through this charger links and its also posted in the DIY section but isnt very precised. I am thinking of a more generic 12v cigarette lighter socket (as in cars) which can be widely useful (except for lighting cigarettes ) and want to mount it under seat to make it weather and tamper proof. Will update the same.
Or if i source this in India, would be nice..

I had a p220 before the ceeber and seeing the cost saving attempts of honda thought that they might use the same ones as 220
